  1. judging by the T-120 meto chart we've got NE or maybe NNE winds gusting maybe 70mph ish at best up here? Still not great at judging to within the tens of mph by closeness of isobars yet but, that's my guess. Going by the track between the T-96 and T-120 it is passing well south of us now, eye through southern scotland whereas few days ago it had progged us to take the eye over northern scotland.

  2. bobbydog, i couldna agree with you more about ignorance causing injury. i am absolutely furious about some of the things that happened last thursday. My neighbours ken fine that the week before a few pig and sheep shelters blew over in 80mph winds and then they ken that an even bigger storm is coming and they tie nothing down!! I spent the next day cleaning up all their stuff that blew onto my croft. Trailer loads of it! Some of it damaged one of our buildings badly which is the only real damage we had and do i even get an apology? Naw! I pulled a plank of wood out of the ground sticking straight up in the air buried stabbed two feet into the ground. Imagine what that woulda done if it hit someone?? Coulda hit one of my coos too. My other neighbour is absentee and has the entire roof of a metal barn sitting on top of the roof of the house which is mega damaged but, i tried txtin, phoning this neighbour and nothing. Next wind it may blow off and by the looks take the hoose roof with it and may hit somebody elses hoose! Deciding whether i phone the council about it or not. it not like high winds are a freak occurence in caithness, tie yer stuff down people! Sorry, rant over.

  4. nick, i am at the northeast caithness just south of wick. What do you think we're looking at windwise? Local weather enthusiast posted possibility of up to 100mph gusts in exposed places but, my netweather gusts have downgraded by 11mph this past update. Was saying 79mph but, now 68mph. What do you think? Could this go up significantly over the next day or does the forecast sound correct/stable? Cheers.

  5. lol liam, coulda sworn we had a shetlander on this thread and thought you may be them. Lol looks like a fairly gnarly onion rolling in thursday night. Hoping we ain't seeing much above 80mph. Anything above that and i'll need to start tying things down "properly". Our neighbour down the road still hasna fetched his 30 ft trampoline out of his tree yet from last weeks rammy. Wouldna care to guess where it'll end up or what it might damage if it still there thursday. The only thing i know by looking at these latest charts is that it certainly won't be there friday if he leave it there.

  6. What is up with these storms the past few years? We normally get most of the right big bangers of storms passing through in the very north of Scotland but, past two - three years most just veering off south of us. Is this just down to change in the jet? Peak gusts forecast for us for this "storm" is less than 40 mph. That considered a calm day here. :-) I'm no complaining like but, does seem to be a difference in track of storms past few years.
