  1. Absolutely pelting it down in Church Fenton. Started properly about 90 mins ago so crazy rates . Road in the estate has snow cover just shy of the curve height already. How long do people think this could last - I know the intensity will wain somewhat but could this be still going to some degree in 5/6 hours ? Is that possible for parts of our region?

  2. Looking at that radar and its is definitely pivotting now (the snow / showers / front) . Somewhere is going to get asbsolutely blitzed from this especially if it starts running due West. Not fancying the idea of even getting to Ilkley easily tomorrow night at this rate so mixed feelings a little. That said I'll worry about that tomorrow.

  3. As far as I can tell the initial lighter front is not due into our region for another few hours so people need to stop stressing! According to the latest NAE data it is only going to be light anyway. The more interesting period comes tomorrow between about 12 noon and 6pm when more heavy snow will cross the region. Latest models suggest this will be heaviest across E Yorks and Lincolnshire and the NAE has been consistent about this in both the 6z and now 12z. Relax and enjoy everyone!

Exactly - if we get much pre 7/8pm it is a pure bonus. It is snowing near the coast in the NW of England so things are looking good.

  4. I know this is for Church Fenton, North Yorkshire (just due East of Leeds) but it is quite representative of Yorkshire in general;

And even this 'milder' 6z GFS run shows 850's and thicknesses that are supportive of snow up until Thursday for our region, so even if it does turn milder after this, we still have a four day cold / snowy spell to look forward to this week. Bring it on!

Looks good. Currently very sunny but temperature starting to drop away already. Dew points are fine also - I always check XC weather for that. I'm very hopeful I have to say that the majority of Yorkshire is in the sweet spot for both these bands. The first I suspect may stall a tad and allow the 2nd to catch up. The gap between the 2 has been shortening progressively on the models. 10cm would be just fine come Monday teatime.

  5. Glad you managed to shift your car!

I live quite close to the River Don and it was well up yesterday morning, probably almost as high as I've ever seen it. Touch wood though I think it would take a truely exceptional event, flooding a massive area, to raise the water level high enough to reach our house.

On the other side of the village they are building new houses. Quite high spec, expensive ones too. Well they are that high spec they had an outdoor pool yesterday, and it was still there this morning. Not sure if any of the houses were flooded but if not it looked damn close. I did wonder at the time they started building cos the bottom corner of the field they were turning into a housing estate had a tendency to flood in heavy rain. I assumed the builders would put in extra drainiage but if they have it isn't nearly enough!

Oh, forgot to mention earlier, I had to scrape the car windscreen at 8:45am this morning so cooler weather has returned.

    Ravelin

Hi Ravelin, guess where I'm visiting from the 29th, for 4/5 days? I keep checking the charts and there appears a good chance of snow Sunday (30th) morning onwards but I guess it depends on the wind direction. Will Kemnay do OK in a NWerly or W or is it too protected from the Mountains to the W?

  6. I'm in York, South Bank/Tadcaster Road area. Just been out onto the Knavesmire, oh boy. It's hammering down, strong winds and possibly around 4-5" laying on the ground (was really hard to see in the biting cold and snow) I'm a very, very happy *snow* bunny :yahoo:

Do you reckon Sundays games will be on? Hamilton Panthers won't even be on now and they play on the 3G at the uni. St Clements will get a week off also. Then again Sunday Football is for nutters so you never know! (these teams play on the Knavesmire)

  7. Right final one now I imagine but its an hour from when I measured 10cm level to when i filmed this and it's been like this pretty much throughout that time and still is so I'm thinking 15cm easy here come the end. This was at 7-30 by the way.

    Cheers

    BB

Just measured again - 12cm's ...2 hours left IF the band keeps on track. 15cm's I agree is a likely finishing result. May be more but we'll take that and a freeze tonight / tomorrow.

  8. CF is east Leeds of by about 10 miles and I haven't seen anything particularly heavy on the radar.

    Thats some exceptionally localized snowfall.

    :)

That is on the path right in front of my house. can't be affected by drifting etc....quite surprised. Possible 15cm's I guess by the end of the night. It's bloody cold out here though. No city warming :) 18 miles to be exact (from Leeds city centre) Gotta be looking good for Lincs later?

Garforth 10cm's - I would concur with that by the way.
