7 hours of moderate snow so far, light levels have fallen so I suspect the cloud is getting thicker

Not sure if this will work....https://video.nest.com/clip/ec48f5cf686b4c15bdd96e6e0d3e1be7.mp4

Here’s hoping! We are meant to be test driving a car in Epsom at 2 this afternoon - if it’s snow by then and with the added elevation, it could be interesting...
Rear wheel drive would be fun

Just over an inch in North Bucks. The sleetyness has gone now, just steady moderately heavy snow.

Amateurs!
No, just a lack of dedication to the cause.

Started around 3:30 am with about 5mm and settling in North Bucks between Buckingham and Milton Keynes. Local lamppost calibrates it as moderate intensity with a slight hint of sleetyness.

The possibility of another storm this coming weekend was mentioned on the bbc breakfast news weather forecast this morning; first old media mention?
-
I'd be glad of any downgrade, so long as the storm knows it's been downgraded as well. I live in a place known locally as windy ridge and the house is surrounded by trees. We've tied down everything in the garden but not sure if I can tie the trees down!
-
I posted this at end of previous thread
IF the storm is majorly downgraded - it does make you wonder the point of releasing warnings so far out. I mean what exactly takes 4 days to "prepare" for ?. Would the morning before - ie 24 hours before not be enough ? its not like we are in the US where a major hurricane advances and people need time to board up houses etc.
No criticism on models etc - these are complex systems to model
Sure - emergency services and council a further heads-up - but general public ?
I'm also not "hope-casting" this storm either as I've a skip full of half our house we cleared out yesterday - so would prefer no winds at all !!
It's happening over the weekend. A lot of businesses would not have been able to prepare if the warnings had gone out on Saturday morning.

Massive amount of rainfall just accompanied by some impressive T&L. Our poor older GSD is scared witless by thunder and is currently hiding behind sofa. Sofa moving about an inch every five minutes.

Quick Q is that a hail spike on the radar from the French storm or just an incredibly straight line of rain?!
Looks like a radar artefact to me.

Still only 31.7C here, needs more heat!
-
No, if anything the lower garden is more shaded by the house, the upper garden is shaded by trees only. It's quite odd.Is it the sun rising over a fence or other high obstacle with part of the garden remaining in the shade?
-
Interesting effect in our garden this morning. It's on two levels, the lower level is totally devoid of snow remants while the upper level is still 50% covered. No other differences between them other than the height, and thats only about 2 foot!
-
Temp and DP shooting up here, gone up 2o in the past couple of hours.
It's been quite dodgy out side, had some large chunks of frozen snow and ice falling from the trees and buildings in the strong breeze.

Please someone translate the model thread to me one minute the hunting down prozac next champagne.
Kx
I think roughly translated it means "there will be weather"

Just started snowing again, only lightly but clearly visible in the lamplight. Might add a bit to our 3 inches
-
Also off topic....or if the road hasnt been inspected inside it's scheduled inspection period. Dont ask how I know such details - it was painfulOff topic but to be able to claim about a pothole, it has to have been previously reported to the council...
Back on topic, wifelet tells me it snowed here in north bucks for much of the morning and a good part of the afternoon, doesnt appear to have added much depth though
-
Grass totally covered, paths totally covered, roads mostly covered apart from where the puddles were earlier. Had about inch and a half to two inches here in north bucks. difficult to tell exact depth as it's blowing around a lot.
Not sure about this pivot though - from looking at the radar I guess that the low hasnt taken the track it was supposed to. Looks to me to be an elongated low from NI down to the south coast. Most of the weather appears to be coming over the channel rather than off the north sea.
-
Heavy snow now here in north bucks, settling on the grass, cars, shrubs and started to settle on paths too. Road still looks clear but as ours is just a lane I expect it to cover soon too.

Still snowing, having started at 3am. It's got quite light a few times but it's never really stopped. I'm guessing my 14.5cm will have increased to about 15 by now, so that "unofficial" accumulation map is right in that regard.
