Very dark and very heavy rain... no thunder though... it's very cool compared with the temp earlier though.
-
Same. Really looks like something will happen but of course not. Nothing happens here.
Nope, very threatening here but absolutely zilch. Fed up of this here now.
It's just passing me now (Bilston, Wolvo) and very heavy rain, no rumbles or lightning as of yet. Made the streetlamps come on early though

Lol, lived in Willenhall from 2008 till 2010, remember 23rd september 2010 by any chance?
Yup, was my first proper storm living up here! I think I've had a few rumbles and flashes since, but nothing as exciting as that evening.

Thats one thing I miss about living in Wolverhampton... Storms!!!
Back home they're having a proper thunderstorm. Lots of smug facebook comments. B*****ds!

OOOOOooooooh lovely heavy rain!
Thought I heard a distant roll of thunder about 15-20 minutes ago.
Two small popcorn cells to my west, hopefully they can keep building! Planes are still flying over me into luton at the moment.
Thunder reported in Houghton Regis (slightly north west to Luton) by friends.

Is Bridgnorth north west to Wolverhampton?
Have answered this myself... nope... just west...

Its a valid theory, but ...I was around in the 70's and 80's and we stll had lots of atlantic infuenced summers, but we still got regular storms in the summer . and its not selective memory as I remember recording the number days between storms, if two weeks went by without a storm in June, July or August it would have been considerd unusuall ! and the timing of the fronts coming from the atlantic to hit the warm air seemed to occur late evening say about 8 o clock on many occasions giving a good dusk display,This just does not happen much now. We are talking once every two or three years not every two weeks for this type of evening storm to happen, if you are in luck that is, No doubt about it , thundery activity has dramatically reduced here over the years
I remember storms of the late 80's and 90's. I was seriously scared of thunder as a child, and used to wake my Dad up every night there was a storm. Often storms occurred every few days in the hot summers. In the end my parents decided I should confront my fear and took me to the highest point (I'm from South Bedfordshire, so it was Dunstable Downs) to watch a fierce storm. Instantly cured, it was beautiful! And an obsession was born! Thundery storms were definitely more frequent then.
I live in the West Midlands currently, and apart from the now infamous storm in 2010 (was it September? October?) I've yet to experience anything more than the odd rumble or flash.
I don't actually know what my brain fart will add to this thread, lmao, but yeah, there is a trend in less frequent stormy weather in the last 10-15 years. Definitely NOT selective memory when you actively seek storms to watch.

Are there are any facebook groups that follow the chases too that anyone knows of?
I'm new to virtual chasing, still quite amateurish with my knowledge too.

sure i just heard a faint rumble a few minutes ago.... eeeeeeeeeek! My newborn's first storm!!!
Yup! definitely thunder!!!!!!

god i miss them old bbc weather maps! The best summers for night time storms that would last for hours
I have a theory... we've not had decent all nighters since they changed the weather maps... PERHAPS the maps hold the key to the storms of the olden days... a little coincidental, you all have to admit

Crop circles are pretty. But vandalism isn't funny. Or mature... it's quite cool though.

More conspiracy rubbish to control the paranoid, it's a tad tiresome, if I'm honest.
Firstly, anyone can find coincidences in numbers and dates and things.
And secondly, anyone who has the smallest of knowledge in geology, astronomy and simple physics will understand the improbability of comet Elenin having an effect on Earth.
Avoid the conspiracy forums at all costs, they're full of bigoted fools who confuse their mental health issues for common sense.

I've been hooked up to a fetal monitor all morning/afternoon in hospital, did I miss anything in the West Midlands?
-
Epic lightning just passed to my North West, bit gutted it totally passed us. BUT you lucky people who have this over you right now. can you blow it back here?
-
It's either horrible little treasures, car lights or lightning... but I'm pretty sure I have just seen a flash or two of something pretty amazing,,,, Yup, there's the thunder I am pretty excited and might do a little dance... this is looking pretty spectacular... and the lightning is intense. Purple

Midlanders, how is it looking? I have a cling on 5 year old who won't let me look outside at the moment.

Gone quite dull here in Brownhills, grey over towards Bloxwich and Willenhall, wind has picked up a little bit too. I do love weather like this, will it? Wont it?
Over here in Bilston it's a little humid. I don't fancy our chances tbh... I just don't feel it! (Not that I know anything...pmsl)

Hi, (my first post here on these forums) I'm in Wolverhampton and we've just had a few rumbles of thunder, but it's passed now.

sure I heard a distant roll of thunder. What is currently above me now has potential to be amazing elsewhere.
