  1. Looking at the sustained wind data from the likes of the mumbles and Portland bill, the wind is currently weakening ( 17:00 = 44mph/ 19:00 = 36mph)and has been for the last few hours, were as it was forecast to be picking up. the centre of the secondary low if it follows the upper jet as it has been will be more likely to go through slightly to the south along the channel??

It was forecast to decrease prior to the developing system moving in - most likely to see winds increasing again in the next few hours as it approaches.

  2. The storm isnt forecast to develop much until this evening, and then develop rapidly. It's a tough one to call. Still possible that winds of 60 to 70 mph will affect much of the south - whilst these winds may not seem too severe, combine them with wet ground and trees in leave. Also, with leaves blowing off trees its likely to block drains and lead to enhanced flooding, more-so than may normally be expected.

  3. Hi guys,

I'm sure some of you have heard about SkyWarn UK. We are part of the European SkyWarn Network and cover the whole of the UK (England, Wales, Scotland, N.I.) as well as the Channel Islands. We are a network of volunteer storm spotters, and are always looking for new enthusiasts to join us. In order to become a SkyWarn UK Spotter you need to complete two online training modules with a pass rate of 80% for each module. These modules cover basics around the role of the spotter, what and how to report, as well as severe weather climatology and storm structure amongst other things. Once passed, spotters are required to recertify at least once every 3 years by completing a shorter refresher module. SkyWarn UK shares received reports with a number of organisations including the UK Met Office, TORRO, and the European Severe Weather Database. We are a friendly organisation and would love to welcome you onboard. You can find out more at our webpage, or on our Join Us page.

    Cheers,

    Rich

  4. No snow here yet this winter but am thinking we could see some significant snowfall by months end. General consensus seems to be the winter will be colder than average and my gut instinct tells me some very disruptive snowfalls are likely across many areas at some point during the winter.

  5. Hi guys, just a final reminder that the SkyWarn UK conference is being held tomorrow (Saturday 10th November) at Springvale Sports and Social Club, Bilston, West Midlands, WV14 0QR.
