Catastrophic wind and rain here. Dread to think what the headlines are going to be in the morning. Power on and off, and mobile networks down. Flooding unbelievable.

Still only one rumble of thunder so far this year. Beat that.
-
Nothing in the GATWICK yet. Everywhere is parched.
-
Thunder in Crawley. Plane just gone around at Gatwick.
-
Storm has finished in Reigate, lasted about 15 minutes, one very loud hit otherwise slightly disappointing to be honest.
More coming up from the SW and the lights have started flickering!
-
I finally hear some distant rumbles (Reigate Surrey)and its going very dark with a strong breeze picking up and as I type the first proper thunder overhead.
Very cool breeze too, looks very dark to the south west now!
-
Nothing so far in Reigate,Surrey. So near but so far.
heard some distant rumbles earlier from Dorking direction, but seems quiet again now.
-
very distant rumbles in East Surrey now.

Hoping for a storm this afternoon here in Reigate, Surrey after yesterdays none event. Got to say the GFS favours East/West Sussex and anywhere East on a line from Kent to East Anglia as the main areas likely for some activity.

GFS yesterday was spot on with the storm focus last night in Far North West of France near Lille and Belgium and predicting little to hit the South East of the UK.
I'll second that!

Skyscan lightning detector has just started to go nuts? Been quiet all morning.

Superb idea! I'm always addicted to the Weather Channel whenever I'm in the States! Lets set one up!!

About 20 min ago we had a proper thunderstorm, constant lightning with torrential rain! Still hearing thunder now but rain not as heavy, difficult to see which way it's heading though as very murky. Not surprised to hear of flooding in Horsham, if this keeps up for the next few hours there could be quite a bit of flooding, especially flash flooding.
I think you have sent it to me!
-
Only seeing the odd bit of lightning, seems I am missing out on it again
I grew up in South Park!!!
At least its not woodhatch ! It seems to be pepping up and getting darker again ! My poor old sky scan lightning detector is going potty. Don't think its ever had to work so hard.
-
Got really dark here now!!! street lights have come on, and as I type torrential rain!
Which part of Reigate are you Simon are you in the main town?
South Park. Seems to have eased slightly now and got a bit lighter. Still V loud thunder. I think it strikes the mast on Reigate Hill.
-
Yeah I saw and heard that! I was having a cigarette at the time, made me jump!! More thunder and lightning now to my north east, must be heading towards you now?
Yeah, torrential rain now....and gunshot thunder.
-
its so dark now the street lights have come on !
-
almost constant thunder and lightning now. getting very dark and lights flickering. FUN! <_<

Haevy rain continuing now since 8am, thunder and lightening observed about half an hour ago but nothing since then. Jimmyay I think yoru too far east for this as like you say it's gradually heading NW, even though the low level cloud is coming from the NE!! I think we've had at least an inch here this morning, big puddles everywhere but nothing too serious thankfully (at the moment!)
Still thundering here, V loud now. witnessed something strike very close to Tesco, Hookwood this morning about 9.15. Sounded like a massive explosion.
-
Just witnessed lightning striking a building right next to me at Gatwick Airport. Huge explosion. Never seen anything like that before.
-
I'm just ahead of you then, with the grand total of one rumble of thunder since last August
I'm beginning to think they're all making it up !
-
Not even so much as a rumble of thunder here in Surrey since last August. Very little rain for the last week or two. Bit of drizzle today and last night, thats it.

I'm exactly the same as other peoples comments on here. Glad to see that there are other people, makes me feel less of a freak. I dread the other half being away on business in the summer months, because I know that sods law there will be a storm during the night when I'm on my own. I have an almost obsessive fascination with storms too. Very strange and obviously linked psychologically somehow, maybe to a childhood experience but can't remember anything specific. By the way fear of thunder is called Brontophobia and fear of lightning is Astrophobia.

I know this is a forum for storm reports, but I feel a rant coming on. This year has seen some great storms across the UK. Not one, not even one, has been more than the odd rumble in the far south east. Every single storm on the radar has passed to the n, s, e or w. I must be in somekind of microclimate here. I'm glad all you lot have seen some decent storms, but spare a thought for me, who hasn't seen or heard anything like a storm for nearly 3 years. Boo hoo. In fact, we never get any unusual weather here. BORING. I'm going to move. Now.

Nope, we've not had a storm in Horsham yet this year.
