Brilliant, I'm visiting Rossendale next week and live in Kent - odds on I miss all the fun!

Just seen a fantastic funnel cloud out over the channel from dover beach. I am soooo excited -first one ever! Will post pics later!!! Think I need a lie down now...

Not sure where you are, but after the evening snow showers, there was an almighty snowstorm after midnight - heaviest snow falling I have seen this winter. I was surprised there wasn't any thunder snow - not that I saw or heard anyway. It was the type of snow that the event in Jan 2004 gave. The wind really started getting up at the same time and it was blowing the snow off the roof tops, the road, and off the tops of cars. Couldn't see to the end of my road.
Haven't been out yet but lots of very thick snow out there and a few snow showers still falling.
Great fun!
Thundersnow this morning about 5.45, no schools, no buses and hardly any cars going anywhere. Stopped for the moment, but the sky is getting very dark again

Lots of thunder, lightning and heavy snow in East Kent (Dover) from 0530 this morning. Still snowing, roads unusable but the kids are happy - all the schools are closed
-
Thunder, lightning and lots of snow in Dover this morning, was supposed to be going into Folkestone to work for 9am, but have decided not to even think about it. The M20 and the A2 are down to one lane and it's still snowing. All the schools are closed, and just read that there is a power cut in Deal as well! Seems to be very localised though, just this little corner of East Kent!
-
Just been driving from Faversham to Dover, nothing to speak of north of Canterbury and then a whiteout. Lucky I got home when I did, just seen on the traffic report two accidents on separate roads into Dover
-
How much snow could fall in East Kent tonight?
Hi Updraft, don't hold your breath!! Where abouts are you? - I'm down in Elms Vale
-
Hubby just got back from a ride, took this just before the rain started.
Dover, Kent.. approx 22:15

Stunning storm - best one I've seen here in 12 years!!! Not too much rain though, so flooding shouldn't be too bad.
-
holy whotsit, this thing is HUGE - I haven't seen this much lightning in years- I am now hoping it goes straight down the channel, there must be some serious trouble where all that is hitting!!!
-
It's here now, fantastic lightning, started raining hard, what a light show!!!!
-
very active in dover now, both kids are up and the thunder and lightning are constant, still not rain though?
-
Wind picking up now, getting louder, dog hiding and both cats in - oh, and one of the kids is up. Not going to bed yet then!
-
lots of lightning in the distance, and constant rumble now, seems to be getting brighter and slightly louder, just wondering if it is worth trying to go to bed, or if the kids will be up again in half an hour
-
I'm watching, just a shame we are in a valley and can't see the channel. Hardly a breath of a breeze here, but can still see the flashes and can just hear the thunder in the distance. We haven't had any rain for a fortnight, so even a little rain would be welcome. Will keep you posted, and as soon as the dog starts to go nuts I will let you know
-
Storm way out over the channel at the mo, can see the flashes, but don't hear the thunder.... Will keep you posted
-
Flashes now getting brighter and thunder getting louder, stuck in a valley though, so I can't see much, dog's hiding again though and the cat's just come in. Waiting for the kids to come back downstairs next!!
-
Heavy snow in dover apparantly!
just blowing around in the wind really, not a lot to get excited about yet.......the funny thing about this little corner of kent, is that you either get it all, or none at all....keepin my fingers crossed
-
Just starting in Dover now, love the snow, but I supposed to be working in Folkestone tomorrow, and am bricking it about travelling in what the beeb are forecasting

Have a good time! I went fossil hunting in Folkestone with the kids yesterday, we had a lovely time. Once I got used to what I was looking for they were all over the beach. The prize find was a lovely nautilus fossil, still with some of the shell visible. (Mind you I think I had more fun than the kids!)
-
Looking at all those strikes, i guess i'd better get the cats in now, before they drown during the night! Will try and get some pics if it gets really bad down here.....

Thanks for the link greyowl, have filled it in and sent it off! No damage to our house, thank goodness, the dog was a bit anxious this morning, but he's calmed down now.
It's given everyone something to talk about though!

Was at work this morning, sat in a chair, having a coffee, and the chair started moving side to side! Lasted for about 5-6 seconds and there was a dull rumbling noise, quite scary. Apparently Folkestone has got quite a few chimneys down and gas main problems. Certainly woke a few people up, but thankfully no major problems, but it will give us something to talk about for a few days!

I've never heard wind like this, ever. Very scary. The garden is already in bits, and I read the worst is still on it's way. Not looking forward to getting much sleep, or seeing the damage in the morning. This feels much worse than the St Jude's storm.....
