Anyone remember the last big snowfall we had in south merseyside when it came at night and flakes were like potato waffles.
Now i know what that would look like in daylite hours.
Would that be Friday 17th December 2010?? Best snow event here in years!
-
The snow is quite heavy here now - my road runs east to west so the snow is blowing horizontally down my road. It's making an effort to stick to walls and vertical surfaces but not the floor!
-
Seems to be melting quite quick here almost as quick that the drips are sounding like rain! most of the sides of cars are now snow free. Also some lazy flakes of snow have started to fall again..
-
Temperatures on the rise it was 0.3 an hour ago, now 0.5.. snow cover is sliding off the sides of cars too.
-
The snow has stopped falling now - got the not so lovely sound of drip, drip, drip.. Tend to think my 5 inch covering will be somewhat thinner in the morning..

Temperature down to 0.3 from 0.7 3hours ago RH is at 80% - still heavy snow with juicy flakes!
-
Typical best snow of the winter and it will all be gone in the morning- unless the east is pushing it back- does anybody know if the Atlantic might just lose the battle against the cold given that the rain has turned back to snow?
Mmm tend to think the atlantic will win for now.. hopefully another snowy spell in 2 weeks or so?? Think it's a bit late now for an 11th hour change..

Oh wow! It has turned into proper snow now, with the biggest and heaviest flakes I've ever seen. This beats December 2010 in terms of intensity and flake size hands down. I've got an inch of fresh snow, and it still battering it down. Absolutely incredible. What a night.
Yep..! tend to think this'll be a night to remember and we'll refer to this for many years to come..!

For a blizzard you must have sustained wind speeds of at least 35mph or frequent gusts 35mph or greater, nothing to do with the volume of snow falling, the media (not decent weather media) use the word blizzard wrongly most of the time.
Thanks.... Bit more info here.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blizzard

The snow is coming down with a bit more omphh now, kind of reminds me of 17th December 2010. Happy days!! Shame it'll be gone in a day or two..
-
Visibility is decreasing all of the time! When does heavy snow become classed as a blizzard?
I think it's when sustained wind speeds are over 40mph it's classed as a blizzard.

Just been for a wander outside, got a 2 inch lip of snow gathered up against my door, the slush seems to be freezing under the snow and my footsteps from 30 mins ago are completely covered. All snow falling now and no sleet, good accumulation too, over all a good 2 to 3 inches now on the ground.
-
Turning more to snow now and not as much sleet in the mix.. getting a nice covering of snow over the slush, roads are very slippy.
-
It's been sleet / snow here for the past hour or so - now turning more to snow and heavy too.!
-
Started snowing here late afternoon, the snow has been a bit grainy however, the snow is starting to pep up now into proper flakes. Got light to moderate snow fall at the moment and the intensity is starting to pick up.

I can see that storm just to the north east of me, I'm on the edge of it.. Gone very dark in that direction..
-
Was in Huyton before couple of big booms about an hour ago
I was at the knowsley flower show earlier and got caught in that storm, quite intense for a few moments and flooded the park. Currrently clouds building again and going very dark to my south.

The location is Woodend Avenue near Hunts Cross, heading south towards Liverpool Airport - at the time we had a brief light shower pass through the area.
