  1. Just drove the m-8 from livi to bathgate...OMG tomorrow morning is going to be chaos!! You can't see any road markings, 10mph max the whole way, 3 cars slid off onto hard shoulder and a jacknifed artic on the slip road!! Glad I'm back from work.. I cannot believe the snow cover out this way already

  2. No entirely sure I understand all the factors in the Edinburgh snowshield but it definitely exists. We came back down the A9 from Boat of Garten earlier, heavy snow in poor visibility almost all the way until we got close to the north side of the Forth Road bridge. On the Embra side, visibility vastly improved, rain, and even on the higher parts of the bypass, in some places snow was completely absent.

Some kind of recurring geographical, topographical, micro-climatological thing going on there but whatever it is, its bloody effective at turning snaw into naw.

I work at the gyle/hermiston gait and it must be one of the most snow free places in scotland from a westerly attack. It doesnt anger me unlike some on here, but it really is a strange one!!

  3. Not convinced the amber warning is warranted if I'm being honest - certainly not to lower levels.

If anything the set up for tomorrow is worse than it was last weekend - very marginal DP's and upper temps - ground temps don't look to be anything near what YR.no prog - I'd guess if today is anything to go by, to be around 1-2c, which coupled with a -1c dp (for the central belt) doesn't really anything to me, other than sleet then rain.

Why is everybody obsessed with yr.no of late?? They consistantly overstate precipitation and min temps, and have done for a long time.

  4. Failing to really make much impression on the ground here unfortunately. The best we can hope for is some heavier pulses to come along and force temperatures down enough for it to lie, certainly looks like some fairly intense stuff still left out there to the southeast at the moment.

Aye, i'm at Hermiston Gait LS. I fear it isnt going to happen here today. Its going to need to pretty prolonged, heavy precip for it to stick to the soaking roads. I get the feeling that the Pentlands are taking a lot of the energy!

  5. damp squib most places!

It's only a damp squib if you were expecting good things. I have been relying on the met office this winter for my forecasts. They never stated this would be an event for central Scotland. I think they have done ok this winter, possibly due to the lack of easterly flow where their convection forecasts struggle a bit...
