  1. Polar Maritime Earth facing or glancing blow I wonder? Twilight is also strong here now for good visibility.
  2. Southern Storm an old article but worth a read for some photography tips .. https://www.forbes.com/sites/jamiecartereurope/2019/08/30/how-to-photograph-a-rare-display-of-the-northern-lights-from-the-us-this-weekend/?sh=7e22402a4897
  3. Southern Storm only just seen this message so apologies for the delay. These are shot with my phone camera. I've got a Google Pixel 6a which has an astrophotography mode so it does it automatically taking about 4 minutes to take a shot. The data is recorded however as being as per attachment below..
  4. Blowing quite a hoolie out there.. didn't expect it to be quite so breezy. At least it's a far bit warmer.
  5. I managed to get some nice movement & colour last night despite the moon...
  6. Seen here earlier this evening in North Wales ...
  7. Nothing here tonight but managed to get a glimpse of some colour between the clouds last night.
  8. Finally managed to get some dancing Aurora here in South Staffs/Shropshire... Some stills and time lapses..
  9. Someone's a Local Hero! (One of my favourite films) https://twitter.com/bnb_inn/status/1533848456816730116?t=1iP0UpFgUvXwXgxrre72IQ&s=19 https://twitter.com/bnb_inn/status/1533848456816730116?s=20&t=6IRMMNvvUDi2EltUEoI9VA
  10. Just seen this on my twitter feed.. scary stuff. https://twitter.com/peacockreports/status/1494056539149193221?t=MdQGNgvXUvQcDjPlYg1oog&s=09
  11. Should have Googled it first really! "When the anemometer registers wind speeds higher than 55 mph (cut-out speed varies by turbine), it triggers the wind turbine to automatically shut off to prevent damage..." https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.energy.gov/eere/articles/how-do-wind-turbines-survive-severe-storms&ved=2ahUKEwjyjZnZqoX2AhUMQUEAHdqaBDYQFnoECCEQBQ&usg=AOvVaw3oKw2Q4oR-FdoF3noI_65Q
  12. Isn't there a point where it's too windy for them to operate safely? Just asking.
  13. Wonder if @Osbourne One-Nil is out there?
  14. It was expected, but not quite so soon, and loads of sightings up North. Apparently it was 2 CMEs rolled into one.... From Spaceweather.com CME IMPACT SPARKS GEOMAGNETIC STORM: A cannibal CME, described below, hit Earth's magnetic field on Nov. 3rd at approximately 20:00 UT. Solar wind data from the DSCOVR spacecraft show a stairstep structure indicative of two or more CMEs pressed together. A moderately strong G2-class geomagnetic storm is underway now, and the storm could escalate to category G3 in the hours ahead. Typically clouded out here!
  15. Red alert issued... UK Sightings on Twitter. https://twitter.com/frenchscotjeff/status/1438985359086473216?s=19
  16. Yep thunderstorm tracking SW to NE over South Staffs/Wolverhampton.
  17. Plenty of tweets of UK sightings tonight. Sadly clouded out here. #noctilucentclouds
  18. Been under the streamer now for a few hours. Not been too heavy but settling nicely. PXL_20210210_001637238.mp4
  19. My memory of streamers is that they can be very narrow. I've known a good few centimetres of snow 5 miles both to my North and South and to have nothing where I am.
  20. Marco Petagna's (from the Met Office) recent tweet looks promising. https://twitter.com/Petagna/status/1356927542918344705?s=09
  21. 11cm here on South Staffs/Shropshire border. Local river Worfe feeds the Severn near Bridgnorth. Heard reports of 13cm in nearby Telford.
  22. Could only manage 11cm here in South Staffs. There had been some settling and a slight thawing during the day so it may have been more! Not a bad result.
