Morning everyone! We don't post very often (I aim to change that this year) but the Hastings webcam may be about to give us a show. Nothing here in Marlow at the moment but we should have some reports tomorrow and / or Monday.

Thanks for the help, I had forgotten that it only needs the link..

Hi all,
I live in Marlow and thought I would share this short video with you, sped up it shows convergence over Marlow, Buckinghamshire. However I am most disappointed that only a few very distant rumbles of thunder had our names on them this year...
Comments are most welcome!

"localised storms" so locally it's going to get very wet hardly nailing her colours to the mast is it , by tomorrow it'll be scattered thundery showers and if Carol Kirkwood mentions the Dreaded "H" word well in that case your all knackered then
It would appear that Carol K is on holiday this week so we may be in business... Then again I'm petrified of storms so maybe not Oh well "him indoors" will be happy and will record proceedings as he is a sound recordist so will keep you posted from Marlow!

While I am here thought I might see what folks think about this. It was a thundery cell (not really a storm!) over Marlow about two weeks ago. I had decided to record it as it passed over and recorded the audio as it did so then edited them together.
First is the short version:
Long version:
I welcome thoughts on if this was indeed a funnel or an optical illusion with the inflow.

Best thunder I have witnessed since 1998 in Bracknell. Made my summer this has!

Storms veering East....classic tornado opportunities that screams to me. This tying in with claims of rotating cloud bases...sounds like there's certainly scope for funnels today, keep an eye out chaps!
Well we just had some really nice close strikes in Marlow, Bucks, the closest I have witnessed in a very long time. Once hail and rain finished ( again not seen hail like this in years) I went outside with a camera and what did I spot...
Yep a nice long funnel looking north from Marlow.
Also got a nice recording of part of the cell as I had rigged the shed with microphones and a recorder!

That'll be the storm that flirted with MK pushing north, was a bit like a cheap tart, looked good but didn't produce the goods. Dark atm to my south as another cell develops at the back end of your storm.
large white domed cloud to my NorthWest and can see the top so may be the one you can see. Gone quiet now...

Further to our posts about not having thunder in Marlow, we just had three or four rumbles, one fairly loud.. Hoping for more... Some great cloud porn going by too.

lol my mistake, it's actually north of reading heading NE through Oxfordshire / Bucks border. I said Marlow because it was the only place near to the shower I could see on the map
It was a bit of a surprise to read as i wasn't looking at the radar lol. Have found a couple of local webcams and the sky is very dark in the distance in Henley

Shower producing sferics around Marlow south bucks looks good at the minute. Hopefully reach here in an hour or two if it doesn't die off, moving very slowly so a little worried about the heavy rain killing the inflow.
Nothing to report from Marlow at the mo except big clouds! Will let you know when anything gets here!

Here is the video I shot in France on the iPad. Not the best but hopefully shows off the rainfall etc. Couple of rumbles, but it missed us.. :< (

Hi all,
Just to say that we are in Arques, near St Omer in Pas De Calais, we were supposed to have a massive storm from 5pm to 9pm local time, not much in the way of lightning and close thunder. However lots of regular distant rumbles. Already clearer, but maybe more is coming rom what I have seen on my iPad app. Need to edit video on my return and will post it. Seems we got 2.5 inches of rain in about 30 mins going by a pothole in the car park! Hope we get some more of this as it was amazing but brief!

Looked out of the window twenty minutes ago - heavy rain. Just looked out again - heavy snow! Huge flakes, but only thinking about settling on the fence.

I can't believe that shot won a major landscape compo, it is truly hideous. Landscape photography is about the wonders of nature (unless it is urban) the secret to HDR is creating an image that is not so obvious... Far too much tweaking here... I have been talking about it day to other photogs.. A little goes along way...
-
I personally do not retouch photos, except every now and then with contrast sharpness etc... But it is the exception not the rule. I shoot mostly landscape and wildlife and always try to get the exposure right in the camera, as I work on a computer too much during the day already..
-
Depends on what you are shooting. If you are doing landscapes then a bit more money would get you the Sigma 10-20mm.. But of of the ones you have listed, I would go for the 18-105mm (Make sure it has the ED glass) as the images will be shaper. The VR will help you keep your images nice and sharp in lower light..
There are a few places the do secondhand stuff like Grays of Westminster. If you can scrape a bit more cash together take a look the 18-200mm Vr lens which would be much better coverage. A new version is on the way and this will be better, though at the moment it is almost twice your budget...

Stunning photos Louby, congrats on them. And I give up! Just what are the first two??
They look like water droplets on a CDR to me.... Great idea too. Awesome shots..

Very nice shot... If you click on the small image that you can see, it becomes large ;< )

Hi Zoe,
I am in the Marlow area and do one to one training, though I do charge for my time. I am free during the week or weekends.. If you are interested give me a shout!

Where are you Ben? My parents messaged me to say they had an overhead clap of thunder just before 7. They're near Burghfield, south of Reading
