just a quick update to that the snow is falling quite widely from the brecons as far east as northampton and as far south as just north of oxford ......... exactly how the met warnings said it would ...... that was forecast hours and hours ago early last night ............ i still think the snow could move further south as temps drop away too
you're right there Peter. They still have it up/

never a dull event when it comes to the weather, it just is what it is and interesting how it goes.
Maybe some are anticipating excitement from the extremes. Like watching the traffic or a race and only being interested in the accidents.

Yah looks nice, that LP has come down from Greenland & recently past Iceland, the hook has been developed since yesterday now, was more defined in fact, not entirely sure on the track of that haven't been paying much attention to it but T+36 SPF has it over Scotland in the next 24h, looks like its going further south then projected tbh, looks as if its getting pulled into the backside of the current LP in the channel,
don't you thinkk that it may come down across northern Ireland and into Scotland AND UK . ?
A very basic air current model, from a website i link to previous :

Has the low deepened yet or have we yet to see it stall, or is it on a track straight on through??
Thank you for posting the link.
There are some high winds posted on that site : Chemoulin 133 kph.
I'm curious after seeing that about the weather in the Med as Cap Corse ( Corsica) has had wind of 114 kph. but that's not for this thread
-
That area also covers the Channel Islands and parts of NW France - these areas will have the strongest gusts along with the Western coast of France. I think the storm force 10 warning would refer to those areas.
the areas of Portand, as per the link, and Plymouth are reported to have potential storm force 10. ( quoted in the link)
Biscay has "increasing violent storm force 11 later".

the heaviest of any precipitation seems to be to the south of the uk now ....... hard to see where all the snow will come from in the uk now .........
rain arrived too early for the colder temps by the looks of it ........
After this present low has moved west will the one in the north atlantic, south of Iceland move south east across northern Ireland and the UK, bringing cold and snow ? ? ?
-
The British shipping forecast has gale warning for all south west areas incl. the english channel,(Plymouth,Portland and Wight) storm force 10 and (edit ) severe gale force.

For the benefit of the forum member who was requesting information about the Charente area of France, I came across this marine forcast, cannot vouch for any accuracy nor from where they receive their data, yet this is for Tonnay-Charente which is just a bit inland from Bay of Biscay. The wind speeds can be changed to knots, mph or kmh .. Hopefully their "gust"prediction for early morning is a bit over the top.
Either way you look at it it's severe, Baton down the hatches and ensure that the roof is firmly attached to the ground i'd guess.

Hello, I have just recently registered here at your Forum, and have been following this thread prior for the last week, since monday.Thank you for an informative discussion and contributions.
I link here to the weather sites which i have been following parallel to this Forum, as my first contribution to the Forum.
http://alerte.vigilance-meteo.fr/storm-en.html click local areas for more detail of warnings.
And this sat, view has been interesting for the changes the last days, especially for the wind speed and direction from differing altitudes.
Excuse me if any of these have been posted previous, and i hope that i post in accordance with the protocols and etiquette the Forums
Atlantic Storms 13th to 16th December 2011 - Part 4
in Storms & Severe Weather
Posted
Paris Charles De Gaulle and Melun getting hit with gusts of 77 km/h and 85 km/h respectively. So it's not letting up much across land. ? ?
I'm not so interested to be in the storm.
i watched the financial storm accumulate for seven years or more, it was more hoping it wouldn't happen even though was inevitable the way it went, And same with the weather, to be prepared for whatever is coming my way or can be avoided, especially when travelling, or when the potential weather could be dangerous.
