Wow, this is the most snow I've EVER seen. I just measured the top of our shed as it's a nice flat surface. Measured 22cm of level snow! Just East of Ipswich.
My Dad was saying that an ambulance couldn't get through to a local village so had to have the farmer take them on his tractor. They had to go on the fields because the road was impassable.

Looking at the radar could get nasty in our area this afternoon
Not overly convinced as the showers seem to be breaking up really easily when they get near the coast :/ Not sure why!

it's 19.6 mm, so basically just under an inch
X by 10 with snow I assumed. How it usually seems to work!

Netweather showing 19cm of snow from 2100-0000 tonight - surely can't be right?!?!

Certainly a direct East moisture field coming off the Netherlands coast on Sat24, if a disturbance runs through it, it could certainly liven it up.
What are your thoughts on our chances for the rest of the day mate? Doesn't seem to be much in the way of showers forming.

Whats the set up today? More showers through coastal areas? Metoffice has me down for heavy snow tonight but none during the day??

Depends where in Suffolk you are. I would expect anywhere east of a line from lowestoft down through Stowmarket and to sudbury to get in on the streamers, with those closest to the coast getting 10cm+ those nearer the line maybe 5cm. Further west across the county it will be down to any more organised bands of snow coming. More should be known by Monday.
I'm in East Ipswich Thanks!

I'm just a few miles North of you. I wouldn't take much notice of the apps, they are taken directly from data provided by one model and won't be accurate regarding precipitation. Anything north of an easterly is best for us. Some of us could do VERY well next week but as always, others may not....all boils down to luck. The best advice I can give is get the Netweather radar and keep an eye from Sunday evening onwards.
That's what I keep trying to tell my self haha, hopefully we will get a good covering!

No, even now it's too early to nail down precipitation. Relax and look forward to radar watching from Sunday evening.
You're right, thanks!

Hi all,
Anyone else in Suffolk concerned about the lack of precipitation? I mean I realise that steamers etc will form, but when you look at met office etc it doesn't show much at all. Just a bit of light snow. Wondering if the winds need to be more NE then E for us to benefit?
Surely the METO would pick up on shower activity and will have detailed charts with convection rates etc?

Had about an hour now of very heavy rain and lightning, although it seems to be dieing down a bit.
-
Almost constant thunder east of Ipswich!
-
Quite a lot of lightning here in Ipswich.
-
Looks like it could be sucking in the moisture on the way up as it's adding more to the front of it as it goes. Keep an eye out for a gust front will you
I shall, possibly going down to the coast to watch it roll in if it reaches here!

Storms popping up in SE England!
-
What are the chances for tomorrow? Or is it just going to be the usual thundery showers?
-
Some incredible lightning from the cell just north of Paris. Possible South East clipper?
-
Clear blue skies now the clouds have gone. Is it too late for anything to develop in the south east / east anglia?
-
When are these storms supposed to start popping up? Very disappointing so far...

Hi Geg, always good to hear from another Ipswich poster, I'm in Bramford on the West side, last night was amazing, a proper 80's storm, i think our chances are still pretty good today, some more sunshine would help though.
I'm on the other side! Yep hopefully it will break up again but seems to be getting more and more cloudy here. I'd expect perhaps late afternoon/evening things will kick off like yesterday!
-
27C in Ipswich, still a lot of high cloud but hoping things pick up soon.
-
All eyes on the dry slot now coming into the SE off the Channel.
Suns just making a break through here.
Good to see someone else from Ipswich! Nice storm last night wasn't it?
What do you think of our chances today? Seems too cloudy for me, think we could miss out for today. Still the day ahead of us I guess.
-
Not feeling positive about today here in Ipswich. Great storm last night with frequent lightning, but it's too cloudy, surely nothing will develop? Any thoughts?

I feel so lucky to have been in a hot spot for this event. I just measured again on the shed, flat surface, following snow for a lot of this afternoon. It is now a staggering 26cm of level snow.
In our car port area, the snow is almost up to my knees. I will measure it tomorrow but I believe it to be around 35cm. I have never seen anything like this. My mother mentioned it's the craziest she's seen since 1987.
