Fans don't cool the air though, all they do is circulate the air and increase sweat evaporation off the skin,
but fans placed in an open window can help draw cooler in from outside. I find the best use of fans is to set them up by windows to blow air in on one side of the property and extract it on the other thereby encouraging a cool breeze through the property
what a cracking summer so far though long may it continue

I also prefer seasonal extremes hoping this coming hot spell will be memerable

First few spots here
-
Stafford completely dry just south of Penkridge torrential flooding rains. Sky going dark in Stafford now though hopefully I won't need to water the garden tonight

Looking at the radar don't think it's going to last much longer over Stafford. Still a nice covering on all roads and pavements
-
Seem to be on the very edge of the streamer in Stafford as it fizzles out overhead. Still unexpected so a bonus! Is it likely to intensify any?

Was sitting down at the time felt some shaking for a few seconds a bit like a hgv thundering past. First earthquake I've ever felt

What an unexpected event that was. Main roads slush and ice. I don't think they were expecting snow here in Stafford if it fell during rush hour the result would of been gridlock. Don't expect much snow to survive the night. Drip drip drip

I thought 40 mm would be up to 40cm as snow is up to 90% air

When should I expect any snowfall then? Tonight, tomorrow morning, tomorrow afternoon?
Tomorrow morning for snow fizzing out through the afternoon.

Looking at the models I'm too far north for the biggest falls. Who knows it may correct north certainly don't want it to correct any further south. Met office still keeping us in the orange warning area so may still be a significant fall. In these situations I tend to trust the met office expertise over what the free models show.

river sow peaked at 2.52m just 2 cm under its nov 7 2000 record
sandyford brook at sandon rd beat its previous record by a massive 32cm set jan 27 2013 peaking at 1.56m
with the ground already saturated and a possibly wet winter to come further flooding could well be an issue
