  1. Are people familiar with UKsnowmap ?

    Here: http://uksnowmap.com/

Essentially you tweet your location, rate the current snowfall out of 10 (0=nothing, 10=total whiteout), and include the hashtag #uksnow .

This site searches Twitter for info and generates a map of where snow is falling.

Apologies if everyone already knows about it!

  2. Hi all

    Long time lurker, rare poster...

I live near Matlock, on edge of Peak District at approx 300m, and travel across Peak District via Buxton to Stockport every morning.

The MetO forecast is looking pretty tasty, heavy snow from approx 9pm tonight until middle of tomorrow.

Am I right to be getting excited ??

  3. Another winter visitor doing the annual sign-in....

I live on the edge of the Derbyshire Peak District, about 850ft up.

I have a 40 mile comute across the Peak District to work in Stockport, about half of my journey being over 1000ft, peaking at either 1450 or 1650ft depending which route I take. I usualy start off around 6am when it's still nice and cold.

I monitor the level of activity on here for my signal to switch to winter tyres - and they've gone on this weekend Posted Image

Not quite sure what the concensus is yet for the week ahead, I'm suspecting some decent frosts, and some falling snow on higher parts of the journey, but little settling.

Does that sound about right ?

I'm settling in for the winter ride on here anyway. I've learnt my lesson over the last 2-3 winters not to get too excited - been several occasions when I've told my work colleagues about impending snowmageddon, only to find the models go boom a day or two before...

Anyway, I enjoy reading the posts on here, a lot of it is over my head, but I get the gist. Keep it up!

  4. Hi MM,

The nearest village to me is Middleton By Youlgrave which is around half a mile away. Yes i understand your commute to Stockport can be very tricky in winter, from around these part's for sure !

NetW is certainly the right place to keep up to date on the weather prospects over winter in detail. Keep checking the MOD thread for long range trends, you will soon pick things up.

    Welcome aboard.

    Thanks.

OK, newbie here, but I thought I'd add a short video clip I took in April this year...was stuck there along with many other for best part of 2 hours as visibility was zero.

  5. Just a few miles from me...good.gif

I want a Hugglund, would of come in very handy the last few winters. And hopefully this one !

    Hi PM

Just joined the other day, and I notice we may live in the same village....

I tend to read these forums during winter as the weather tends to affect my daily commute to Stockport somewhat - if we do live in the same village I expect you understand my issues :) Despite that, I always wish for lots of snow!

I don't have much weather knowledge, just find this all interesting.

  6. I've been following this for a while now and built up the courage to make an account. I have no clue what all the charts mean and I would love to learn more about forecasting.

    Snap !

I've been silently lurking these forums in the run up to winter for the last couple of years, I too thought I'd break cover.

Like Snowy782 I have no clue what all the charts mean, but I find it interesting reading all the posts on here, and I gradually pick things up over time.

I live in a village on the edge of the Derbyshire Peak District, approx altitude of 900ft. High enough to get some decent winter weather.

I love snowy weather, but it's unfortunate that I have to commute 40-odd miles across the Peak District every day, setting out around 6am on uncleared rural roads. Have been doing so for around 15 years now, I think 2010 was the worst I can remember - very challenging road driving conditions. Despite that, I still look forward to snow...fool.gif

Hence my interest in reading these winter weather discussions, so I've got a good indication of what lies ahead !

    Anyway, back to the lurking.
