Sleety snow here that's settled on the cars, stopped about 10 minutes ago...

We had a great weather day, heavy hail, sleet and thunder added in for good measure :-)

Oh I see, I didn't witness it myself so will assume it was the hail graupel you refer to :-(Sorry snowphie, things can't change much when the current situation is fairly static i.e. we are largely under the influence of High Pressure so any showers would have been light in nature. Having now looked at what the NMM suggested at the time, dewpoints should have been between 5c or 6c. Alongside this, the precipitation would have had to been very heavy and very much at elevation, although the Jamaica Inn is. According to the Snow Risk maps, above 2400 metres it would have potentially been all snow. I think that clarifies my assumption from earlier but then again, the weather every now and then goes against these basic elements. For the short answer, no snow, hail graupel which can look like snow, would have certainly been possible. You lot deserve something that's for sure. You had your half decent Summer down there so perhaps Mr Climate can delivered a half decent wintry spell too.

I understood that, I was hoping you could have looked to see what it was at around 8:30 as I assume it changes all the time? :-)AFAIK, the current upper air profile isn't conducive for snow to fall was what I was trying to state. Having said that, stranger things have happened in the past.
-
It was at about 8:30 this morning if that helps?I don't think the upper air profiles currently suggest that that would be likely but intriguing nonetheless.

There have been reports of very short snow flurries on the A30 here in Cornwall, near the Jamaica Inn.
One was from a family member, the other a local council worker and our local radio station

I am utterly amazed - I didn't realise how much higher your position is compared with us - Im going to jump in the car and follow the snow - unbelievable
So pleased for you! I know Delabole well and for you to see the white stuff is fantastic!
Thanks! Totally unexpected too! It nearly always seems to happen that way here! Good luck with your hunt for snow! :-)
-
So confused but very pleased! Although it has just stopped we had 30 mins of heavy snow which started out as hail here in Delabole! Settled slightly but melting fast! It wasn't forecast on MetO 5 day!!!
-
Snow lying on Roughtor and Camelford this morning.....it wasn't forecast as far as I'm aware?! :-)
-
Woke up in Delabole to what can only be described as icing sugar :-)
-
Snowing hard and fast here in Delabole!!! :-):-):-) Settling on the cars but no where else currently :-)
-
Here in Delabole, North Cornwall we have icey rain with the occasional flake of snow, just hoping that it develops into more!
-
Sleet here in Delabole, settling on cars. Very, very windy too!
-
Light snow here in Delabole, North Cornwall :-)
-
No snow but last nights sleet that melted has literally turned to ice! The roads are sparkling with pools of ice at the sides.....it can't be snow as nothing on the cars apart from frost....going to be fun getting to work today!
-
Heavy sleet as I drove to pick my brother up from Camelford which had settled on cars and then a flash of lightning on the way back. Very thrilling! :o
No precipitation at all now though and I can see the moon and a few stars :-)
-
Heavy sleet here in Delabole :-) Appears to be settling on the tops of the cars....I assume this would be because it's so cold? :-)
-
So hard to keep up....someone posts that the likely hood of snow for Cornwall is now depleting but the MetO 5 day changes from sleet to snow for me and the Netweather 'Will it snow' goes from 68% to 80% chance!
Guess this just shows what a hard job you all have trying to follow the different runs!
Fingers crossed we do get something :-)
-
The sun has just come out here! Very jealous of all those with snow, particularly my hubby who drove to work at Launceston to find snow!
Love the beautiful pics though :-)
-
If you live in Cornwall and are feeling a little depressed, get yourself to Rough Tor, MetO 5 day forecast shows light snow tonight and heavy snow tomorrow day....could be something to do with it being 546m asl
-
No snow forecast for Cornwall but I would just like to point out there wasn't for Sunday and I still saw a flurry.....I am an eternal optimist! All I mean is you just never know! God am I setting myself up for a fall! ;-)
-
Can't believe the forecast for Friday, snow everywhere in the South West apart from us in Cornwall.
The Met Office five day weather forecast has me down for light snow Thursday night, heavy snow Friday daytime and sleet in the evening.....that's Camelford to be precise :-)
Have to admit I'm waiting for it to change to rain :-(
-
Oh nooo wots ya temp n dew point down there?
I have no idea??? The best I can do is check the car thermometer which I am informed is extremely inaccurate!
Sorry!

We have sleet again now
