I thought I was going to be too far north for this (5 miles north of Skipton) but NW, BBC and Met Office all forecasting a LOT of snow here.
We'll see I guess, 50/50 whether it fizzles out before it gets this far up.
-
Chucking it down with snow now in the Dales.
-
Are we expecting any more serious snow later?
Met Office, netweather, accuweather all saying different things.

ITS SNOWING!
Its meant to be rain here, yet we have snow. Thought this was possible given the temps and our height.
I think you must be quite near me. Sleety rain in Skipton at the moment. Just about to leave for shops then home (a few miles north of Bolton Abbey at 750ft) so might be a bit up there if I'm lucky.

The rain is turning to hail is turning to sleet is turning to snow up here in the Dales. Still very wet underfoot though so not really expecting to wake up to much.
Friday looks like it could be interesting. I'm driving a race car on slicks at Donington too, should be entertaining!

It's out there if you're willing to get out there and look for it. I decided to take a bit of a spin earlier to try and find some of the white stuff. Mission accomplished.

Pretty much stopped here in the Dales. Quite pleased actually, our road has got (conservatively) 7 foot drifts, 4'' lying snow on the roads, up to 12-15'' in places, zero thaw, easterly wind constant at about 15-20mph. It was quite a spell of weather, that.
-
I am up the hills a few miles to the south of you nearest place to our farm forms part of my name We are 200m higher than Skipton so very different conditions than what goes on in the Aire valley.
Ah got you. I live up above 700ft too, quite different up there I bet but not seen it since 7am. Pretty much nothing in Skipton now, wonder if we'll see any more later.
-
Now getting the first sizable flakes of the day, about 5 mm big. Already got 10 cm on the ground.
Where abouts are you? I'm in Skipton town centre at work right now, nothing more than very fine flakes falling. It has been going for most of the day though but no accumulations on roads/pavements to speak of.
-
Couldn't resist it so I just went out for a drive over the tops: Burnsall, Barden, Eastby, Embsay, Skipton. White roads all the way, including central Skipton which has a good 10cm on the roads and there are snowploughs out. Amazing to see.
Deepest lying snow over by Barden reservoirs, it was about a foot deep. Great fun to drive in, like carving fresh tracks en piste.
Tempted to go out again now. Wife thinks I'm mental!
-
Pretty high up. Is it windy out?
No, not really. We've already got about 20cm of lying snow in garden and fields. I scientifically (!) cleared off a seat outside at 7.45pm so I could measure this fall accurately. Currently 11.5cm on it.
-
Conservatively 10cm in the last 90 minutes. Not seen it snow like this in the UK before and it is still coming just as strong.
-
It is really trying here 5 miles north of Skipton. One minute nothing, one minute rain, one minute snow the size of 50p pieces.
-
Just took measurements as even though its still falling its not going to add much more.
An area that was completely clear of snow prior to last night had 21 cm of new snow, area that was partially sheltered and clear had 18 cm's.
I intend to measure one of our fields that has no animals on it and see what that's like as it could have a significant amount on there now from the past few days.
Where abouts are you, Cowdog? You sound like you could be out my way: between Embsay and Burnsall.
-
Can anyone give me an idea of what things are likely to do around the Skipton area for the rest of the day and into tomorrow? I can't make head nor tale of things like charts etc sadly.
-
Some decent snow coming down in Skipton at present but don't understand how it will last all day though - from looking at radar?
There certainly is, Dunc. I'm in my office in town and just looked out of the window. Wasn't expecting it to be so full on snow down here.
Up at my house (towards Burnsall) it is pretty mental, very glad of the 4x4. Kids school in Ilkley closed so poor wife having to look after both while I enjoy the peace and quiet of the office!

We had a decent fall in the far west of North Yorkshire overnight. The winds were howling though so we got some pretty impressive driftf. The biggest on the field behind me was about 7 feet. Are we expecting more snow today?
-
22cm here in the high Dales above Skipton. Drifts up to around 4 feet in places. School run is going to be fun!
-
Very thin, tiny flakes falling here 6 miles north east of Skipton. -1 degrees where it has been all day. If it does come it'll stick, no doubt.
Still got 3'' in the fields and double that on the tops.
-
Can anyone give me a clue as to what to expect in a Skipton-Ilkley-Harrogate area triangle? Am struggling to make sense of things at the moment using only mobile phone.
-
If Harsh Climate's map is correct then I'm going to need a snowmobile for the school run tomorrow. I'm at just under 1000ft in the red zone.
-
Any ideas what left these? Its in a forest, glove there for scale, a bit off topic but snow related and driving me mad. At the minute am thinking velociraptor
Roe deer I would say.
-
We've had about 5cm here north of Skipton on the tops, shows no sign of stopping. Still very thin snow though, no large flakes. Temp is around -4 so it's not going anywhere.
Does anyone know if we're likely to see anything heavy tonight? We're pretty far west I know.

Doesn't that also include 'Probability at 40%'?

Started snowing up here in the Dales now. Wasn't expecting anything until the small hours.
