heavy rain on and off all morning here in exeter.

Few spots of rain in Exeter, very dark to the south. Humid, wind dropped.

now the met office has completly jinxed any chance of snow on sun/mon. They have included torbay ( home) in warnings. Ever since i moved down from oxford 15 years ago every warning for snow has come to nothing. Hope someone in the far southwest gets so action. Peter.

Wind buffeting the house, soaked cycling home at 8-15 pm, repeat this 70x welcome to the non existent winter.

I THINK 25 MILES OVER DARTMOOR ON A FOLDING BIKE MAT BE TO MUCH ON A DAILY BASIS.Hate to inform you mate but that stretch of track will be OOU for a long period of time now.
A section of the sea wall has been destroyed with the resulting ballast and fishplates being washed away leaving the track balancing in the air;
This means effectively starting from scratch and building a whole new wall and frame along with replacing the track itself. With the current inclement weather here to stay for the foreseeable future, it may be a number of days before work can even start.
I would be prepared to alter your commute for the best part of the month now.

Wooh! its windy, wet, no hold on very very windy. Thats the worst its been this winter. My normal commute is Newton Abbot to Exeter by rail with my trusty folding bike. Don't think that this means of getting into work is going to happen for a while. The stretch of line between dawlish and dawlish warren is really exposed to straight southlies. Good luck to those out and about today. Peter.

Don't know about anyone else, but its about as windy as its been all winter here in Torbay. Wind really roaring around the house, funny how late in autumn 2013 ( some will say we are still there!) we had warnings of storms. These were all over the media, now flooding, no trains running between Newton abbot and Exeter because the tracks have been undermined does not even seem newsworthy. Just me i know, but I would rather not make it to work because of winter weather ! I know deep down that this is winter but I have really missed calm still frosty, dry, mornings walking the dog. Lament over, stay safe.
Oh, and thanks to all who post here and the forcast thread. MB.

Happy New Year to all, once again foul conditions here in south devon. Stay safe, please please can we have some dry weather in the new year. This current spell of wet has gone on long enough !

Thanks OMM, always great to have your input, Peter.

Deep down I know the snow will miss south Devon. But I am sort of hopeful because..........this time we are not under a met office amber weather warning!
-
My parents live north of Banbury, Oxfordshire. They are fed up with snow, i think this is their 4th event this winter. 4th snow event ! if only.....
-
was under a met office orange weather warning last night, didn't know it was for the light dusting of patchy icing sugar sorry excuse for any real snow that we had!
one day south devon will see snow, Peter.

I think your kids, will be very happy when they wake up tomorrow morning! South Devon is going to get lots of snow tonight! Good luck!
Your very kind. I have told myself not to get worked up overnight by the commute tomorrow. Normally folding bike to n'abbot to e'st David's. Bus normally not at option over holden hill! One of the few times in a year I think about running two cars, but then I would miss the train journey along the coast.
-
All winter my kids have been hearing about the snow my parents have had in north Oxfordshire. We have seen a couple of flakes one morning and that's it. The closest they got was making balls of hail, come on snow in south Devon.
-
Something for our Cornish and south Devon friends to luck out for, good luck Guys and Girls
Would be great down in torbay to get any snow. We missed out earlier this year and in dec 2010. I remember the train journey in dec 2010. Thunder and hail at home, haldon hill closed so travelled by train into exeter. Nothing in newton abbot, snow at dawlish on the coast! Then deeper and deeper into exeter. Really odd having family at home in green fields and work mad with 7" + of lying snow and the hospital on alert due the poor conditions.

Lots of frog spawn in pond,,,,,,,Looked around garden and need to get cracking, Even grass really needs first cut of season,
One good thing when there is snow cover, My garden looks as good as my neighbours, Looks like going to have to start Spring clear up, Was hoping would have had little late snow,to have given me excuse to delay , but no such luck,
Already done a first cut of the lawn several weeks ago. Hoping to do a second cut this week. I have been down here for 12 years and last year was the worst for finding a dry window to cut the lawn. I made the mistake of feed and weeding last year in late spring and watched my lawn grow and grow. I think most people in the south west are hoping for a better summer this year.

At least Exeter had snow in december 2010. Torbay had nothing. I work in Exeter and my family were shocked with the pictures of snow, whilst looking over green fields just 20 miles away
-
Odd, still snowing here in exeter. Was forcast light and to die out this am on radio devon's forcast( i only listen when the commute over telegraph hill is at risk!). Nice for the first time in years to have an unexpected upgrade.

Few spots of rain, few rumbles, looks worse on the radar than underneath it ATM
