In line with Katie's blog and events in Exeter yesterday- Plymouth had 2 serious incidents today although no bombings luckily.
Basically I was day off today, so decided to go into town for a pint (or 3) at lunchtime. Being a responsible person we took the bus into town- only to get caught in the 1st alert in North Hill (around the University and library). Thought nothing of it- and walked the back way to the pub on Bretonside.
However when we left to catch the bus on Royal Parade- all hell had broken loose, with police cars, guns everywhere. The police had arrested a couple of men in Old Town Street. The end result was chaos with nobody having clue what was happening. It's all connected to the events of yesterday. Talking to friends, Stonehouse is crawling with Police and Bomb disposal people and its the main news obviously down here on ITV Westcountry and BBC Spotlight.
Until now, I've always thought Devon and Cornwall as being safe places. Sadly it appears we are not.

Today I am 33. This leads on to several points
I can no longer say I am in my early 30's.
I can no longer drink like I did 10 yrs ago (as my headache proves today)
I have new lava lamp from boyfriend
I have new Deal or No Deal DVD from boyfriend
I cannot beat Noel Edmonds at said game
My boyfriend left all the price tags on both presents and birthday card
I wish I had not drunk so much beer and whiskey last night.
    I wish I was 21 again.

    Happy Easter all!
Firstly- I'll start by saying, that I have slipped off the bandwagon regarding smoking. But I have plans to stop from tomorrow.
Last week at work was frankly awful. If you look at my blog entries from last February, the same situation occured again, which led to my boss and my bosses boss coming down on my side as my work team decided to play silly beggers , resulting in a very embarrasing moment for a trainer from the British Parking Association. So I got very stressed and angry.
Fingers crossed tomorrow will be good.
However, Darren took me away for Easter to Brixham and I've had a lovely relaxing destressing time, walking in snow, hail and other normal Easter weather events. At least the caravan had hot air heating. Did feel sorry for the people camping next to us mind!

I was very naughty last night.
It envolved a BBQ- a bottle of vodka, 4 very close friends and a camcorder.
I'm not the one in hiding today.
The neighbours are a bit surprised at certain activities coming from our garden last night.

I am now a fully fledged Parking Attendant again.

I love it. Not working until Wed now. A lovely long weekend!!!!

(PS if you live in Plymouth, please be nice to me- I'm a good guy. Honest)

Well this is it, my last blog of 2007. Its been an awful year in parts and even with the civil partnership in July, 2007 is not a year I'll look back on with fondness.
But it's New years eve, a nice bottle of Merlot (8.99 a bottle- gulp I'm more a bottle of house red at 2.99) and a bottle of shampoo for midnight. Yup, we can't even face a night out. So home, Graham Norton, Harry Hill, Nick Knowles ( ) and my husband ( )
2008 - it's going to be great. I get that feeling!!!!
HAPPY NEW YEAR NET WEATHER BLOGGERS!

I've lost count but still no ciggies!
Going ok- hard day at work today- with damn staff playing up, but had a meeting with my boss and took my Nicorette Inhalator into the meeting and pretended to flick fag ash into my cup of hot tea
Oh and my training for my 10k didn't happen tonight. Instead I rediscovered my long lost love. Finally after 7 years (and having had them in the USA) I discoverd Asda are selling Oreo biscuits. Trust me in the biscuit world they are god like  . On my trips to the US I would seriously buy a load and put them in my hand luggage (probably running the risk of 15 years imprisionment for bring food into the UK)
So no smoking and an Oreo rediscovery. Blimey 2008 is looking up!!!!
Louby- hope it's going well- pvt me!!!

1st day of not smoking for us as well.
So far, so ...........well ordinary. Done the ironing, watched Something for the Weekend, eaten a tin of mackeral, just going to have a cup of Bovril.
Oh and an overwheling desire to kill other half. Mind u, he's in the corner gently rocking from shock (he was a much heavier smoker compared to me). Actually feel sorry for him.
Going for a walk to take my mind off it later on today.
520pm -a lovely long walk with the dogs on the River Plym throwing sticks into the water has done the trick so far. Not looking forward to work tomorrow. Will take and drink lots of water!!

Today I am painting the lounge. I've had enough of creams and magnolia (boring!!!) and have plumped for a colour called Woodland Glade from Focus. Its a lovely classic green and will look lovely with the green sofa. Plus because Focus is closing in Plymouth I got the paint at a lovely cheap price, although I did feel a tad guilty about the people losing their jobs right on Christmas.
And then when I've finished- the Christmas Decs can go up.

The doctors visit was encourging- but I'm glad I went.
Basically i have very high blood pressure (130 over 100). The nurse said my top figure was ok, but the resting figure the 100 is way way too high. So I have a month on tablets called Propranlol- and more importantly no alcohol for a month and to try and take things a bit easier and start exercising.
So it least it's getting sorted. I had one last blast out last night- a small headache this morning but I can live with it!
    Wish me luck

I have signed up to do the Plymouth half marathon.
I currently have problems running for a bus- let alone running 13 1/4 miles. Including hills.
I have 18 weeks to prepare. I need my head looking at.
A friend asked me last night- how long to you think it will take you. My honest answer is hopefully under 6 days.
and smoking will have to go..... Therefore this blog will become my training blog from tomorrow.

There was one big advantage from the pub closing- we took the Projection Screen TV- which means 82 inch square screen. In our lounge!
I don't need glasses to watch the football results anymore
Mind you scary thing is that you can see Sharon Osbournes staple marks from the all the plastic surgery

After 4 years of tireless hard work my iron has finally died. In quite spectacular fashion (no pun intended)- it has managed to fuse the house totally
However, this means I cannot do my weekly chore until pay day. - will I get away with creased shirts at work??

Well as I'm transferring the Calendar dates onto the new 2009 one, lets have a review of 2008.

Not a bad year overall. There have been some good and bad points.

    Good Points.

    1) Changing jobs to be Civil Enforcement Officer. Yes its not good when cold and wet, but pay is the same as the old office job which stressed me out and I do love the work!
    2) Holiday in New Forest (first week of May). Little did we know, that was as good as the weather was going to get. 23c in New Milton and getting the only suntan of the summer!
    3) Moving house. Stressful, but nicer to be closer to town.
    4) Making new good friends. Clifford and Dave, Stu and James. Good guys all of them

    Bad Points.

    1) My knee was a problem in the Summer, but I have to live with that
    2) The amount of alcohol I was drinking by the summer due to old job. Not a good time.
    3) The failure to stop smoking. It has to go in 2009
    4) The weather. No real summer and no real snow seen in 2008. 2009 must be better!

There we have it. Mixed fortunes. Working tomorrow so will only be out from 11pm onwards.

After the funeral yesterday and about 3 hours sleep last night and 6 hours the night before, I'm tired today.
I'm having a glass of wine and a Nytol.
Blimey what happened to Sat nights out drinking till 3am??
It's called life and helping friends out. And it beats clubbing by thousands to one.
    Everytime.

I have woken up and according to NHS Direct I have shingles. I haven't been feeling too well for a couple of days now- but the itchiing is awful.

I had chicken pox when I was 6, so this is certainly shingles.

    Doctors tomorrow.

Sadly a great friend of ours lost his Aunt last week, and we went to her funeral this afternoon. Kath was 91.
It was all fairly somber, and both Darren and myself cried during the early part of the service. Then came the last hymn after the committal at the crem. The song was "All things bright and beautiful". Now I know all the words to this classic hymn, having had to sing it every morning at primary school, and as the hymn started, it looked like Darren did too. So I put the hymn book down.
By the time it came to the 3rd verse, I could see from Darren's face he was clearly looking at the book for the words (so much for him knowing the words). So I did the first thing I could think of.
I closed the hymn book.
Suddenly from singing all the words, he started going la la la la Then started giggling. Loudly. Which set me off.
I honestly thought we'd got away with giggling at a funeral, until Mike came up to us at the wake and asked why we'd been giggling at his Aunt's funeral. When we told him the story, he burst out laughing saying- "that's help make my day- Kath loved a laugh." He proceeded to tell all at the wake the story, and they all agreed that was a funny thing to do.
Kathleen Muriel Harvey 1916-2008. Rest in Peace.

Knee really bad- back to work today after 2 days off.
Not good. Plus an operation to come. I'm scared. Really scared  The last time I had an operation, I spent 10 days in ICU on life support. The thought of an operation is really freaking me out now.
I'm going to go to councilling about it to try and help me out.

OK- a another new noval thing. A Sunday morning lie in.
So lie until 10am.Then another old friend rediscovered- "Something for the Weekend" on BBC2 at 10am. A perfect TV programme for a Sunday morning in your dressing gown with the Sunday Times (me) and the News of the World (Darren and me secretly )
Then a nice fry up breakfast, followed by taking the dogs for a long walk around Saltram House estate (National Trust) here in Plymouth on a cold crisp dry day with some sunny periods. Home to a home made Cream Tea (treat and cheaper than National Trust)
Plus now Top Gear on Dave Channel and a glass of cold Soave.
I have missed our Sundays. No more smelling of beer with a hangover from Sat night working.
So thats a lie in, a fry up, good TV to watch with the Sunday paper, a walk with the dogs in beautiful parkland on a cold winters day, a treat and a damn relaxing day.
The simple things in life cannot be beaten.
    Ever.

Ever get a week when you've worked yourself to a standstill? I am so tired tonight it's not true. Comes from having no money for car parking---- pay day at midnight yippie. However I've been getting up for work at 530am all week as a result just so I can get free parking.
Weather was really icy this morning, and I did skid on the back roads to the Woodhead pass, luckily I did keep my speed low.
Left work at at quarter to four tonight, as I thought the roads would get worse. I was right, just had the sea king overhead. That only means one thing, an accident on the Woodhead. Given the frost outside now, I'm not surprised. That road is a nightmare even in good weather, just hope nobody's been killed.
Oh and it's Little Britain tonight. Or in my case, tomorrow night on DVD after a few jars

    Well what a day!
Put GMTV on at 6am to hear the words snow on the Peak District today. Looked out the window to NOTHING, but icy windowscreen.
Anyway got to work for 730, and thought nothing of it, other than, a long Monday ahead. Then I got the call that changed the day.
"Phil it's me, you'd better come home, it's snowing badly". Thanks Daz i thought. And to be honest, the roads out of Rotherham were clear. Started thinking dark thoughts like "idiot getting me home, theres no snow". But as I went through Stocksbridge (snowy roofs) Midhopestones (snow on the walls) and onto the Woodhead Pass, I thought, "OK it's not good, but nothing to give me problems".
Then I got on the road to Glossop and home. I have never been so scared in my life, so much snow, lorry nearly going into me, no grip, anything. After 6 nasty/near misses, I abandoned the car at the end of the road and walked home.
"Told you it was bad", was Daz's comment. My thought was to grab the malt whiskey I was keeping for Xmas. Drank 2 rather large glasses, to stop the shaking (not just the cold). Had brought some work home did that in an hour , and took the dogs out for a walk.
Took the following photos hope you enjoy them. As for work tomorrow. With 4 inches of lying snow and -4c for tonight, I won't be going in early..........
Enjoy the snow if you've got it.
    P

I'm off sick today, got a nasty stomach bug, of which the details are just too gruesome to explain. However it is nice not to worry about people ringing me and moaning at me........
SO, the burning question is, will it snow? Managed to get the dogs out for a walk yesterday on the Woodhead railway line, and even our friends who can with us couldn't believe just how cold it was. The hills have got a "blue" look to them at the moment, and the last time they looked like that was February. We had 25 cms then, and I feel that the same could happen again by Thursday.
If it does- then I'll post some pics.
Back to me boiled water, hey it's all fun!

So here's 2006. We've taken the dec's down, and are in the process of stripping the home from bottom to top, cleaning, bleaching, the usual.
    So 2006 resolutions are
1- Not to get stressed at work
    2- To stop smoking
3- To run the Manchester 10k in May and the Glasgow 1/2 Marathon in September.
The second one starts tomorrow, on my return to work. Then we can start training for the Manchester run.
