Channel Low in January bringing only rain here in East Dene, climate changed dramatic. 30 years ago that would have been drifting proper snow.
Agree totally with this. Had this set up occurred in the 1980's I'd have more than 6 inches of snow this morning. Instead just a bit of sleet for an hour.

Just reached us in Robertsbridge. Temp +0.1C DP -0.9C. Rain with a few ice pellets in it. I suspect the leading edge has slightly warmer air aloft and it will turn to snow when the heavier stuff arrives shortly. It's moving NE at a snails pace.

Bizarre skies as the front crosses. Can clearly see some Precipitation falling but re-evaporating mid level. Perhaps explains the odd web like ribbons.

Fantastic piece. thanks.

For the record, here at Silver Hill near Salehurst East Sussex we had a spell of sleet and wet snow between 6.30-7.30am this morning. I videoed it but can't upload. We have about 110m asl elevation.

Surprised there’s not more talk about the extended. Looks quite cold to me. “
Saturday 13 Nov - Saturday 27 Nov
Temperatures set to be slightly below average overall throughout this period with an increased likelihood of wintry showers from the north and northwest at times. These showers are initially most likely over high ground with an increasing chance of them reaching lower levels later in the month. Less windy than the previous week overall, with stormy conditions much less likely than usual. Little evidence to suggest any prolonged widespread settled conditions as often areas of messy cloud, rain and showers will be around. Any clear spells that do occur give way to frost and fog as expected for the time of year. Overall remaining drier than average.

With 9am having just passed we have recorded our 4th ice day. Max here Friday 9am to this morning 9am -0.5C. Overnight low -4.5C.
With snow cover of about 4cm since late Sunday (peak depth was 11cm) this counts as a memorable cold spell for me.

Temp peaked here at -0.5C around 10.45am, then a very sudden drop in dew points from -4.1C to -6.9C now. Air temp has dropped concomitantly to -1.4C. Sunny with a bitter ENE wind 12mph gusting 29mph now. Widely 4cm snow still on the ground.

BBC being very cautious about tonight's likely UK low, compared with latest MO report from the site of -15C at 1900. With at least twelve hours of clear sky to come, why on earth would they assume a minimum of -9C? A Scottish site, but an issue which applies everywhere - i.e. taking account of actual conditions in forecasts.
Braemar would be my bet. Around -18C

Interesting MO update suggests they are convinced by the EC46 model output with heights rising to the north again retrogressing and continental low pressure setting up another easterly.

But for the period 00:00 to 00:30 this morning today would have been an ice day here at Salehurst, East Sussex Max at 00:17 was +0.3C fell to -1.3C at 07:50, rose to -0.1C at 13:53 and is now -1.7C. About as close as you can get to an ice day and in fact closer than anything last December.
