What an absolute bust that was pathetic is understatement

I’m in the area where it was actually forecast and it delivered, so definitely not a bust at all. From memory most of wales wasn’t in the forecast this morning? Charts showed pretty much what actually happened, storms firing in channel moving north east up through Devon eastwards fading as they tracked north east 🤷‍♂️

  2. Absolutely lashing down in Exeter, had heavy rain on and off since midnight, saw some great lightning in the early hours after staying up with a few glasses of fettercairn whisky. We’ve had a few flashes and bangs in with this rain. For me the forecasts and warnings were bang on. Despite it being dark and grey here it has delivered the goods, sun looks like it may break out in a min for first time all day. So for those who think because the sun isn’t out you’re still in with a chance, plus the sun wasn’t the fuel at 2am for these elevated storms. Good luck and don’t give up, atmosphere above is still fairly juicy!

  3. Cracking night last night, I’m from exeter but stayed home in Cornwall, sat outside on the patio looking out over st Austell bay and the lightning was nothing short of fantastic. Lots of forks, some upward and anvil crawlers. It was out to sea so could barely hear thunder but one of the best setups I’ve ever witnessed. Then I was woken up by it again around 2am I guess. If that’s all I see this year then I’m happy!

  4. Well if that’s the only thunder I get down here in Exeter this year then I’m happy. Superb afternoon. Lovely to get nice cloudscapes too. How good was today for fairly early on in the season! Had to turn the borehole pump off at the brewery as the water started coming in muddy after the deluge! Saw the potential early this morning so filled a couple tanks with 20000l of water in anticipation as I have beer to brew tomorrow 🍺🍺🍻🍻

I think it’s because there is some perception that heatwaves always used to go out with a bang.

At a rudimentary level, you would think cooler air coming in from the west would undercut the hot air and force it upwards into explosive convection - but obviously there are a myriad of complex factors that also contribute.

Could also be confirmation bias but I don’t remember many hot spells just ‘ending’ the way they have over the past 5-6 years.

Agree and i get its disappointing for some but I feel many on here set themselves up for disappointment for something that was never really on the cards! Still plenty of summer left so fingers crossed for more storm opportunities

an absolutely pathetic end to a heatwave, as we all expected up here. NOTHING on radar whatsoever. Very disappointing bust and once again an inaccurate forecast for Cheshire. Really don't know why they bother.

I don’t recall seeing anywhere that’s forecasted severe storms to break out? Have I missed something? Seems to be much disappointment on here for an event that wasn’t really forecast? I think they all went with possible thundery outbreaks as the cold front moves in, that’s pretty much what’s happened? I’m in the southwest and the heatwave hasn’t ended, the front passed through earlier with a little rain and convection but after that skies are clear and it’s 29 degrees. 🤷‍♂️

  7. Hi all, long time lurker here in Exeter, Devon. I’m a lurker who doesn’t post that often but very much enjoy reading what some of the experts post on here. The thick Cloud is clearing here in Exeter, I have everything crossed for some thunder judging by blitzortung. Suns sort of out, but it’s partially cut off by a load of unstable looking patchy clouds. Eyes on the skies!

Another strong storm forecast for the southeast, another bust for me. Heard about five distant rumbles about 12.30am, didn't see any flashes though, and that was it. Happy for those who saw some action but for me personally I give up.

I’d have driven an hour personally to view it. I’m way too far west but if it was that close and I felt storm starved I’d be after a storm in a flash

well for the people who've called it a bust or stopped bothering, at least u can go to sleep without worry whilst people in my location or near it will not know when to get to sleep in case they miss some amazing thunder and lightning

I’m very envious, it’ll be our turn down in Exeter soon but we weren’t forecast anything in this plume, too far west, meanwhile everyone who’s getting some action enjoy and I look forward to some footage

Previous events (July 2019, June 2018 and June 2014) produced localised cells to fire right along the coast as the main area approached. Outflows and local conditions help massively. East of the IOW, South Downs and Salisbury plain are on my watch at the moment.

I remember last year same happened here in Exeter, was sat out having a beer with my mate At 11pm, he said it won’t thunder as there was nothing on radar, 30 mins later cells fired instantly on the south devon coast and we got a great few storms
