In the most basic sense a storm with no jet often struggles to organise into something more severe. The jet can help separate the up draughts from the down draughts allowing much larger storms to form. If the conditions are right it can lead to the up draught actively rotating leading to supercell development. There'll be much fuller explanations I'm sure in the offing!!
ah ok, yes that does make sense, thank you
Ahhh I see the channel of death is at work. Will the storm make it across?
yes i can see that it seems to have kind of stopped from where i am, very eerie outside though
-
Big difference from previous storm events in the last couple of years has been the absence of the jet - not today. Strong upper level winds straight across central England.
sorry, bit of an amateur at this, what difference does that make to the storms?
-
well it could be an interesting drive from brighton to lymington...
-
wind also picking up
-
Looks like South east will get a little action In a few hours. Now if the temp got a few degrees higher here the two clouds may do something here. Notice to the north of us there's an shower brewing which is typical.
or even now...getting darker by the minute here in brighton, darker to my west
-
I can see darker clouds to the west of me, not so much to the south, no signs of electrical activity yet disappointingly.
-
stick a pair of sunglasses on.. prob see the outline then
yes i can now...still cant see the anvil but definitely looking tasty, thanks for the advice!
-
if i look out the window out to see i can definitely see darker clouds but unable to see any cbs...
-
so am I right in saying that the third batch of activity cooking up in biscay right now is the one to watch for activity from the IOW east?
-
really humid here..unusual for the coast!
-
Looks as if the development coming out of Biscay is going to hit slightly more west than the last one maybe coming in to the IOW eastwards?
that would be nice!
-
awww, going to friends in lymington, hampshire this afternoon, havent seen one flash of lightning yet this year, or even last year!
-
MetO forecast text backing right off of thunderstorm activity, angling now for heavy/thundery rain.Still mentions the 't' word though in the warning detail.
yes i noticed that....they're probably just scared theyll forecast it wrong
-
No.. it is the stuff in Biscay and that area that is now developing that will hit us later
ok thanks, i was worried for a sec...
-
just one question, isnt that storm over belgium the system that was meant to come up to southern england?
-
Get off it.. too many viewers cant see
well storm seems to be slowing there now
-
brussels getting battered....http://www.brussels.be/artdet.cfm/5678
-
-
wow that is huge in belgium...wish i still lived there just for the weather
-
Looks like brightons going to be right in the middle of the gap when the storm spllits...
-
It's not over showers will develop later this afternoon and evening across southern areas probs midlands moving into north east England not sure were all this it's over has come from.
wow the midlands seem to have been the centre of attention this time round
-
Depends on how generous France is? Kent clippers could scrape E London, then Essex later this evening.
aww ok...havent even had rain here in brighton yet...
-
Going for a line of quite widely scattered storms E Mids and up the spine of the country later, tracking NNE..Likes of Lincs, Tyneside, Humber could see a few sharper echoes.
so no chance for the south coast?
-
any chance of any storms getting near brighton?
