For a couple of months now I've been trailing the mixed December, cold thereafter scenario (as per winter forecast). We've had the brief northerly to start the month, a spell of benign, HP dominated weather and what looks like an upcoming unsettled spell. A Pattern change (to cold) just after Christmas and into the New Year period would fit in very well with my personal long range thoughts.
Can you go into more detail in regards to this cold pattern change?

Cant get my head round the fact that the cfs keeps trying to push a high pressure over Scandinavia. I know people say cfs is inconsistent blah blah but it has regularly pointed to high around this region for x mas week. This model must have picked something up or else why would it show these runs!!!!

I'd be interested to hear other people's opinions on this.

B ) winter is only 5 days old - so even with the best computers forecasts, the 12th Dec is as far as one could reliably predict leaving another 78 days that improvements could be gained.
Does Winter not officially start 20th Dec in UK?

cheeky_monkey: You live in Edmonton currently?

Seems Madrid has had a bit of snow overnight judging by piccies on facebook - that is, under high pressure, warm uppers, right in the middle of the country. If it doesn't snow here next week, I give up!
I'm still learning here. But going by theory, should that even be possible?

From what I can tell from the charts, any excitement in way of cold/snow is most probably going to come a few days into Dec.

..... although my preference would be to have a prolonged and memorable cold spell!
YES, please!!!!!!!!!

Can you elaborate please?A repeat of Winter 1962/63 this year is likely based on my methods.

Woah woah woah! You can't just leave it at that!! At least give us non experienced folk a little hope....!The writing may be on the wall already Maybe not as severe as 1947/1963 but Jan & Feb may really pack a punch this year in terms of wintry weather. Just a quick tease. I'm keeping thoughts to myself this year until Nov 30th but December may give us a couple of early tasters as to what is to come. I'm actually finding the first month of winter the hardest to fathom!

Thank you.Sorry it's on a private server, not for public use. But if you take a look around the EUMETEOSAT website you will find similar water vapour imagery.

Where/how did you get that? You can see the cloud head developing to the west of Ireland with some dry air to its southwest indicating it is undergoing quite fast deepening.

I have no idea on the quality of that website. Can anyone more experienced comment on it?

Yes, from Wetterzentrale, precipitation chart. Is that rain? Not sure what this chart is, but if it's rain looks like a flooding issue.

Snow forecasted by Netweather for tomorrow, on the mountains of Scotland.

There is an awful lot to pick up, no disrespect to you but I do urge you to read the Net Wx Guides to get an idea of what the different charts are showing you. If you have any questions I am always happy to try and explain things, and if I am not sure, either give you links on the web or one of the other posters with a better knowledge of that question than I have.
Again not having a go, but try and learn to walk first it will stand you in good stead as the saying goes in the future.
Done. Can you just clarify how to get to these guides please?
Help appreciated

Hmm, gotcha. Sorry for the n00b questions guys.
Is there a definite way of being to tell which "wins"? Ie, which will dominate, the low pressure, or high pressure? Or is that not how it works?

But it's still a fair few days left for that, knowing our (the coldies) luck, that'll massively downgrade
