I didn't feel a single drop of rain last night! From the radar it looked like only the far extreme west of the island got any rain at all.

The most ironic thing about last night was that the wind stopped dead at about 22.30, making photography easier, but at exactly the same time, all lightning in the channel not associated with the flashing Bournemouth storm to the west, completely died off! Wind is always my nemesis when doing lightning photography, and one day I'll get round to acquiring a better tripod that's stable in windy conditions! (If anyone has any product recommendations in that respect, I'd love to hear them!)

Hey lance fellow isle of whiter here☺️

when I did storm photography I used a tripod weight for windy conditions.

I remember being on a summer scout camp back in either 2007 or 2008 on the IoW and we had a pretty intense night of storms one night we were fairly high up near ish to the gun club if I remember the camp correctly. Unsurprisingly it was a rather wet night

I believe it was 2008 we had some cracking storms. Think it was july that was all night non stop storms..

It's always a nerve-wracking experience waking up on the day of a potentially really good event and checking the models to see if it's still game on. Thankfully, this one's looking better than it did last night, if anything!

It can only go wrong from here! Two years to the day since the last nighttime storm that I could actually photograph and witness CGs from - hopefully that's a good omen. Every mid-late July should have a plume event let's face it!

    Fingers crossed for us..

It sure has been a long time Since the island has had a proper storm.

I miss the days of being out in the photographing  lightning..

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but we have just received the following weather warning from the Met office:-

Heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop across SE England later tonight and into tomorrow morning leading to difficult driving conditions, surface water flooding and isolated power outages.

Please take extra care when driving if this weather does hit us. Allow yourself more time, slow down, turn your lights on & give other vehicles more space.

    Stay Safe everyone.

yes Andy.....showers are forming along a convergence line which is supplying the forcing needed....pretty much as per Nick F's forecast as the NMM hi-res modelling....this particular convergence zone is progged to lift north to the M4 corridor as the afternoon/evening progresses......with that in mind, Wilts, Bristol/BANES would be the areas to watch

Does that mean, nothing is likely below that..
