Having a friend that used to live in Sutton in craven, if Sutton bank is the hill, that little village is below, it got very good views

Sutton-under-whitestonecliffe is the village at the foot of Sutton Bank, a few miles east of thirsk. Sutton in craven is well over Skipton way.

Sutton Bank or Garrowby Hill (between York and Driffield) would be great vantage points today.

Definitely moving into the North Sea unfortunately... think tonight is a write off for our part of the world unless we suddenly see some backbuilding along the western side of the storms.

Though that appears unlikely and we may only get steady rain at best...

Hey Quicksilver, you're in Hull right? What do you make of this... https://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/news/hull-east-yorkshire-news/when-thunderstorms-hit-hull-weather-3137009

Owain on Look North has just advised thunderstorms moving up throughout the night covering plenty of Yorkshire.

  3. I'm sat on a rooftop terrace in Madrid watching lightning in 3 different directions, yet lightningmaps shows it sporadic at best. Same as being at home in York watching the same yet detectors seem to miss a lot of it.

Tonight ive watched 2 distinct cells, one from the south one from the north, join up and produce nothing for so long and now theres so much lightning yet minimal thunder.

There's something interesting about that Wolverhampton cell. Why is it the only one to have kept going?

Sure, it's not electrical right now but other cells have been and gone whilst this one keeps trundling along in a weird direction. Proper daft lad.

Now split in 2 with the new one having intesified quickly? Seems to be plodding NE, albeit very slowly. That puts it on a direct line for York.

Radar showing that a cell has fired just south of York, can anyone verify?

Verified. Formed a line between (almost) Donny and York, some of it died as it reached York but it spawned another cell that formed just north of York (towards Helmsley). Caught a couple of flashes to the south and had a see bit of moderate rain but it's moving more eastwards now - I'm on the east side of York but wouldn't be surprised at some major rainfall rates from the south side of town and a bit further south.
