Having read through the replies sent to me, I find it rather disappointing and rather pathetic that you ask someone to leave because they disagree with you.
I didn't feel the storm was noteworthy, it's not like I committed genocide.

There was one 1987 reference in a tongue in cheek manner yesterday evening.
You have picked up on one post out of dozens to back up your view that the event was "over-hyped". Now in reality the expectation was that there would be 60-70mph gusts across southern counties.
This was the hi-res GFS output from yesterday evening posted by me
This actually disagreed with other models suggesting the worst would be south of the M4 in general so areas such as East Anglia would largely miss the worst of it. Going by the reports over southern counties the winds speeds forecast by the models and the Metoffice, and hence pretty much everybody on here then it looks like the event was actually well predicted and not as some say over-hyped.
Here is a BBC news report by the way.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-35516741
The main risk area was primarily SW England and around the Bristol Channel with south counties also facing severe gales which was the outcome in the end.
As for the Fens, well nothing of note, that said I expected that as I was north of the risk area. Now can we all be friends again now, especially with the potential for colder weather with the risk of snow over the coming week.
Of course it wasn't just one post that suggested this storm could be close to 1987:

Don't think so, have a look on line now on BBC local news stations the Further West you go more and more problems... Nobody ever stated a burns day storm or hurricane!
50-60mph winds < check
70-80mph in exposure < check
poss 90mph really really exposed < check
I was talking about our region, and so were you until you realised that this was not a significant event in the South East.
As I proved earlier, people were saying that this could get close to 1987.
Perhaps the wind will pick up now, but if not, this is nothing substantially worse for the South East than other events this winter. -

Virginia water tree down right now thats 10,000s of people delayed and school kids, it's a connecting line to Weybridge too.
The problem is, it may not look like anything in your back yard, but a storm doesn't effect just your garden, it effects regions! I wouldn't say I was picking out events, but just like you are saying it is nothing in your area, it has here.. That's the nature of weather!
I would say, other than a few isolated incidents in peoples back gardens, judging by this forum on the whole across region the general feeling is that this was over hyped.

It looks as if there has been some issues, however certainly not a historical storm, or anything like what some were predicting.
Perhaps if people could just admit they were wrong instead of trying to justify their remarks by bringing up some isolated incidents, people wouldn't get so annoyed.- 2

Worst has passed.
Nothing of note.
Another over hyped event.

So saying it could get close to being as bad as 1987 is not comparing to 1987?
Is it just me? -

@ihatecoldweather you do realise one of the quotes you've used actually contradicts the claim that people were saying it'd be as bad as '87?
"I doubt if it will be like 87..."
Pretty damn blowy here.
I doubt if it will be like 87... it could possibly become close
So that was a comparison the 1987.
They may not have claimed it will be as bad, but that it will be close.
This is nothing near, and never looked to be.

I know, I keep telling myself that it'll just be a normal storm but this one feels different. That "otherness" which, looking back, I can remember on the eve of the 1987. Maybe I've just had too much red wine though.

This is on top of the countless over estimations of 70+ inland.

RE all those who have posted the usual "well it's different for everyone, better more warnings than not enough"
Of course there will be isolated incidence however some on this forum last night were predicting another 1987. That kind of comparison is very dangerous for the future, as when a severe storm that affects a large area comes, people will not expect it - they will expect just 'isolated incidents'.

Are we really expecting more than 50mph inland?
All this fuss over nothing.

I would dread to think what the sea state would look like under this..
I'm watching deadliest catch right now as well!
Thursday night/Friday morning still looking hairy for a time, particularly on the coasts (although nowhere near what Scotland's coasts will see)
Still, 50 to 60mph likely on western and southern coasts, perhaps 70mph in those extreme spots.
Here's the NetWx MR, GFS, GFS Parrallel gusts charts, respectively..

A few small discrepancies between them on exact timings but it's academic really.
It will be 3 years, almost to the day that a similar system brought gales and heavy rain to southern areas. I was out fishing in Poole harbour at night when I heard sirens coming from the Poole side, it turned out to be a friend of mine who was killed instantly when her car aquaplaned and hit a fallen tree.
This is why I take my hat off to the MO. They have been superb with warnings for storms/wind events in the last few years, you cannot take them lightly.
So sad to hear that. Until someone you know is affected these are just 'winter storms'.
A similar story with drink drivers. You may not think its a problem until you know someone who has been killed by it and sadly I and many others do.
Lets hops everybody stays safe tonight

Tbh I am not sure why they extended the warning this far south? It never looked like it was going to be too bad down here and at the moment there is nothing more than a strong breeze, am I missing something?
I will admit I was wrong, strong gusts now seemed to have arrived here.
My thoughts go out to those affected and there families

Saying something like that even though I had not posted for around 2 hours just shows you were trying to bait me, stir up an argument and just 'have a say'.
