Would appreciate some thoughts and opinions, such as, does anyone think this cold spell to last into next week or beyond ? If so is it likely for the snow fall to increase significantly?
Thanks for any replies

Think I'll watch TV... fed up with the watching the weather radar, certainly fed up with 'graupel'
BTW I've noticed graupel is an anagram of lager up ...
I think there's a hidden message in that ...
Cheers

Even the weather apps are mocking - whenever I refresh the app it always states the same 'No Precipitation' ...'Heavy snow starting in 30 mins'... just waiting for it to blow a raspberry
Is it Groundhog Day ?

Last week, I mentioned to my Eastern European wife (she knows all about harsh winters) that it'll be sub zero weather and plenty of snowfall to look forward to. A Beast was approaching... She just derisively raised her eyebrows and shook her head...
I just wish I could've her wrong

Popped outside to for a quick gander, it doesn't feel that cold imho (although it could be the alcohol tbf) nothing on the ground just a few icy pellets on top of my car, all rather disappointing considering the hype.

That actually sounds canny to be fair and I have both. In fact I'm going to try it now.... will a pint glass do?
That was my excuse to make room for the ice

Can't deny it's rubbish right now. I think I'm going to have a whiskey and see what's happens in an hour or so.
Keep the faith Nick keep the faith
Off topic, my daughter introduced me to a 'Godfather Cocktail' this evening, it's simply whisky and amaretto over ice. It's an amazing drink just thought I'd share if you have never tried it

Nothing of note falling from Sunderland albeit I'm 1/2 mile from the coast -hoping it'll improve later through out the day

Quick question if anyone knows? The various (somewhat unreliable) weather apps/ sites has been mentioned a few times.
Doing a online search I came across this site:
https://www.accuweather.com/en/gb/sunderland/sr1-3/minute-weather-forecast/708899
Is this one of the more reliable sites to get up to date info ?
Thanks

Years ago my wife bought her childhood wooden sledge back from Eastern Europe, it quite old but very robust, it's been sitting in our loft collecting cobwebs for over 30 years; I'm quite tempted to give it a run out if the snow settles on my local hills

Sunderland is also looking quite bleak atm for snow on the weather apps. All the recent snow fall has circumvented the city and fell further inland. I have my fingers firmly crossed we'll see some substantial snow next week

hearing rumbles in Sunderland atm

Any of you clever peeps that follow the forecast - do you reckon it's likely that Sunderland will be hit with a a storm tonight ? Only asking as I have my youngest daughter and her friends wishing to camp out in the back garden this evening, I don't want to be the party- pooper - so to speak

Have an interesting day today. 11 yr old mad keen swimming daughter due in Edinburgh tonight with Mum, her best swimming buddy and her mum, hotel for two nights to watch UK Swimming Championships, one of her Xmas pressies. She has been so excited, she is bursting.
Then...the snow. Virgin East Coast have confirmed no trains into Scotland at all today, boooo!!
So I have volunteered to drive them all up after work ( well, she is my girl and I love her to bits, she is distraught at the thought of missing it). So am I, I thought I had the tv control this weekend, and a night out with the lads tomorrow!
Trouble is, the A1 is still totally blocked in Northumberland, we are effectively cut off from Scotland, something Hadrian almost managed. Listening to the chief engineer in charge of the highways up there, they are confident of having the road clear by lunchtime, using ploughs, gritters and snow blowers. Main problem is drifting and blowing snow off the fields.. Hey ho, I'll give it a go, leave work 5.20pm, home by 6, back out by 6.15, pick friend plus mum up from Sunniside, hit the A1.( IF OPEN). Arrive Edinbugh city centre 10 ish, will be slow I guess. Drop them off, back home by 2ish, bed, after a pint lol.
Will let you all know how I get on, fingers crossed.

Good luck with the journey mate, I'm supposed to be in Morpeth @8pm tonight and I'd be only driving from Sunderland, I'm quite reluctant to make journey out there (and back later after 11pm ish ) considering the amber warnings and all the amount of accidents and breakdowns over the past couple of days ...
