I know we all 'hope' and 'wish' that this is not the last cold spell of the winter, and sometimes and hoping and wishing overcomes what the charts are actually showing us. (hopecasting)
But this time it delivered, and delivered well!
Like the charts before this spell, they were all over the place, so who knows whats coming......

Well im not too disapointed, but a sleet shower here now, more rain than snow.... just the odd white flake within it.
The thaw is on big time!

SNOW SNOW SNOW!
Well, I must say, im over the moon with this snowfall. We here in surrey have had 6-7cm giving a very good covering - its looks beautiful! Like a christmas card.
2 decent falls in 2 weeks not doing bad this winter.
Was not happy that the weatherman on ITV This Morning who just said that's your snow for the south for this winter! (hope not, I want more!!!)
But I must say, I would love to get some more between now and April!! Who knows.... something even better might be just around the corner?!!

Looks like the snow is over for today for london anywhere south of here.
http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/radar/index.html
Still some very active snow over essex moving slowly north.
-
Lovely pic, dont think the train will be going far today! lol
What do you guys mean by 'backing-up' ?
Is the snow intensifying on the radar?
-
Thank god,
I was begining to worry because for the last 30 mins the snow had really become light and half hearted, but its getting heavy again now.... bring it on!!!!
-
Seems to have really slowed down in the rate it is falling here :-(
Only very light snow in surrey.
-
Well all the wait is finally producing snow! and lots of it.
I guess everyone is watching the reds on the radar, but looks like they are too far east for me here in surrey!
Whoever gets that is going to get a total pasting!

Locally yeah I honestly think there could be that amount PP, of course its not widespread but esp on higher ground there is every chance of this given rainfall rates currentoly shown in the channel and over the SW. Talking of precip rates in the channel a new strong cell just gone up in the channel to the west of the channel islands, should stay to the south of the UK (though if the front does tilt in time it may reach the SE.) rainfall rates at 22MM now, nearly an inch an hour in terms of snowfall in such a set-up and strengthening, may well be a electric cell as well tohugh obviously I wouldn't be able to tell without a detector!
Everything going as expected, it never wa slikely to snow in the SW or S parts of Ireland, tohugh the met-offic ein Ireland may have under-estimated how much temps wil lbe modified by the atlantic.
Hi Kold,
Any chance of posting up a radar for us to see this?
Thanks

Glad the forum is back now.
Probably die again soon, but hope not.
I think people will head off for bed, so the site might not struggle as much with traffic for the rest of this evening.
-
Thanks Kold,
I think most of us will see the most snow for quite a while, if it turns to rain then so be it, at least we have some snow.
Quite exciting that its only a few hours away.

What are people thoughts on the rainfall/snowfall radar images?
The eastern side looks a bit scattered and lesser than the main central part of it!!
Looks like the south east may not do that well if it continues to break up.
Any thoughts?

The site has been down for 30 mins plus :-(
Looks like its back now :-)

I notice that the heaviest of the PPN always seems to be in the sea(apart from Ireland). This is what will make the front slow down and give a good dumping in the East Midlands.
When looking at the rader i wonder how EA and the SE will get snow, its heading NE missing these too areas
I think the Meto radar is not showing the full length of the rain / snow band, so as it moved more inland i think the south easts rain/snow will be visable.... its still early!
This is not set to hit this area until the early hours.

Are we going to need a Samaritans type thread for the fall out tomorrow morning when large parts of the UK who thought they would be digging themselves out of their homes wake to sleet and cold rain. I for one would hate to see netweather members jumping from these boards in droves just because there was no snow in their area
Do you really think this is a likely outcome?
All still seem good to me!

Why do you think this?
I have a real feeling that this will be a non event for anywhere north of Birmingham :oWhy do you think this?
-
Well all this model watching & rollercoaster ride over the last week or so is hopefully about to bear fruit.
I am hoping that I have a chance here in surrey to see up to 5cm of snow (maybe more!)
Does anyone have any idea what the future is holding after this event? is the west going to win? or will the cold hold on?

Another Wild day!
Woke to to near black sky, heavy rain, hail and gusty winds.
Now a totally clear blue sky and sunny!
What next!

When does the hurricane season start? is it now?
-
Sound like HUGE storms, don't think I have ever witnessed anything like that.... But would sure love to :-)
-
Is this the start of the hurricane season?
What month does it start?
Do you think this year is going to be as active as the last 2 years?
-
I hope you like my photos.
The rainbow one was one of the most amazing weather sites I have ever witnessed with my own eyes, the light beaming in the windows was a bright yellow, the clouds directly above me where beaming with yellow light (it looked like the end of the world!)
Then I spotted this amazing bright rainbow, it was so close and bold in colour.

I really doubt we will see anything in the south on friday or saturday.
I think any snow will fall from the midlands northwards.
It will be just a tad too warm in the south.
