A few flakes of snow yesterday around lunchtime and have woken to a slushy covering of snow this morning and now raining. The green of the grass is now showing through at around 120m however up the hiil it still looks white but cloud base looking at around 150m so difficult to see.
So technically a white Xmas but not a classic. However how many Xmas days have been white? Thinking back to being a child of the 70/80s very few were white and many were mild.

Fascinating read. Now thinking of the solutions of planting trees in areas of the westerlies, what would happen if trees were planted in the areas of the easterlies?
Now in the polar regions it is currently too cold to support tree growth but as temperatures rise and this could lead to the northward spread of the boreal forests, would this lead to any effects on the westerlies?

Yes it does feel more autumnal today. I would say it is the blustery wind, but the air is not cold. I like to use the term soft air and therefore it is not unpleasant to be out and about.

Back in the 80's growing up in the peak district there was often talk of snow above 600 feet tonight the 600 feet level has been mentioned on the TV forecasts so will be interesting to see how accurate they are. I now live north of Sheffield in a village where the top is above 600 feet but my house is lower!

A dusting overnight. Now melting in the sun,but clinging on in the shade. Pavement icy in places due to snowmelt and refreeze.

It feels like Autumn is now on the way.
I had a drive over the Strines moors to the west of Sheffield with the heather in its full glory.
There are signs of some leaves changing with a maple in the garden showing red tinges on the leaf tips.
It feels like we have had a little more sun recently and hopefully this will help to create a great colourful autumn.
Lets save the storms for late autumn.

I agree, absolutely stunning pictures.
Looking at the Glencoe webcams these snow patches have certainly taken a hit over the last few days.
I fear more heavy rain will have further impacts.

A stunning morning. Early mist cleared from the valley bottom. The heat already building, still feeling humid.

The BBC report talked about 'snow being present for 12 continuous months, which will be the first time this has happened since the Glencoe ski area opened in the 1960's.'
As a regular viewer of the Glencoe webcams, over the last few years, it is certainly the latest I have seen snow present.

A beautiful morning here and out on my run you could already feel the warmth, whereas yesterday the air still had a chill from overnight.
Not a breath of wind.
So this is summer!

Great to finally see some blue sky and the sun poking out this afternoon. However it was very windy up at Bolsterstone. Great for blowing away Christmas cobwebs
