I've never seen them before. Didn't even know such a thing existed.

    It looks like a maple.

More strange that most of my fruit vines and bushes still have green leaves on them.

My cherry tree which had a fly problem this year though looks like its already produced leaf buds. I am meant to spray it with bourdeoux and insecticide before blossom to kill fly lavea. So I dont have beelzebub in my garden next year. Hope it wont start bloom in winter or will have to climb on roof with pressure sprayer in winter.

Nothing remotely cold showing in the models, makes me happy. Lower power bills, fewer accidents for pensioners etc.

Would like the entire Winter to be frost-free.

    Wait till ides of march:D

For power bills. In this weather when I put woodburner on it reaches 40c after two hours.

As for pensioners having accidents. One of my granfathers was a ww2 vet and won a swimming competition against men in their twenties in his 80's.

with  this  daft weather to-day  i was forced   to get the lawn  mower  out in December   first  time  in years  the  lawn was looking  like a  bit of set  er  side, then the heavens open up this afternoon!!!

In this weather. Quickest way to cut the grass is to set fire to it. It will grow back in a couple of months anyway

Hardly worthy of it's name really, the mind numbing mediocrity is really starting to grate on  me now. All too often you get a non event Winter  followed by a  crap Spring, followed by a dire Summer, this country really hasn't got a lot going for it weather wise to be honest .

I feel the same. Only positive note is that we can dream of snow and blizzards and african summers and eventually we win the weather lottery. If we got +40c every summer and -40c winter every year. Would get boring winning lottery every time.

  5. From what I have read many strong el nino started mild and gave a cold early spring. I think models are indicating mild january and february and it seems likely. For March and April its a shot in the dark, but odds are much better than write off Jan and Feb.

But unless April I something exceptional. The game end for winter in March for me anyway and winters last chance to play her cards. Otherwise welcome spring and hope for a hot summer.

  6. I'm not sure how related this is to weather, but ive noticed the North magnetic core moving at an increasing speed towards Russia.

Also noticed that our weather seems to becoming more tropical, perhaps like japan with different months for rainy seasons.

Just brainstorming. Not suggesting there is any relation between them but interested.

Nick, I loved it at first.

It was after a week of ice days and extreme cold.

When it occasionally got above freezing it was fine

To be fair I was living in an old property at the time, unlike now. I also now have winter tyres.

I think I will skip the winter tyres and just get myself a halftrack if we get ground frost this year.

Seriously judging by recent weather a boat may be better idea in some places

Each to their own, at the end of the day. I don't agree with giving people crap about their weather preferences. After all, I find it rather unbecoming how people insist on giving me rubbish and mouth off at me for daring to not like or see any "beauty" in cold and snow during winter.

I think issue is that most live in towns and cities. Roads gritted with muck is not a pleasant site. I am lucky to live in a fairly rural location. Always drawn to forest in winter. I guess it may be to do with being born in northern Russia. How anyone can't see beauty in this though is beyond me.

Was the UK as warm during the Medieval warm period ?  (I know that wasn't a whole world warming )

I remember reading that grapes were grown in scandinavia during viking times. Then during napoleons time was a mini ice age and grapes in uk all died in one year

  10. I think I will write off January and February. Hoping for a cold March in line with previous el ninos.

I prefer extremes. -60c would be nice but won't happen. So unless there is a foot of snow on ground may as well be warm to save on firewood.

About mild rampers I dont really see the point. Its like me saying I want cold summer. Winter should be winter and summer should be summer.
