-
this is sleet for sure, even more so when a gust a wind blows
-
Morning everyone

Snow-Icy road-possible blizzards - Netweather Alert
Valid period: 28/12/09 2100 - 29/12/09 2359
Issued by: john holmes
Confidence: 80%
Alert for Snow-Icy roads-possible blizzards issued Tuesday 29 December 2009 This is an amendment and update to the Alert issued on Monday As the low south west of the UK pushes its moist and mild air north so the rain is going to turn to snow as it moves north. Areas most at risk of snow during Tuesday are roughly from the M4 northwards, to include much of central and eastern Wales, Herefordshire, Buckinghamshire, the Salisbury Plain area, along with the Cotswolds, Gloucestershire, taking in the cities of Bath and Bristol and possibly Gloucester. Areas to the north west of London could also get a spell of snow. Other areas to be affected later in the day will be parts of the Midlands, especially the west and by evening into parts...
its more than dark and cloudy, it's been raining for half a hour now and now just seen the first signs of sleet.
-
heavy snow in the forest, traditionally a great sign for snow heading this way, well i guess the temp may be that high if sheltered but the east breeze is knocking those temps back a lot.
right off to make a brew and by the time im back i will be seeing a few flakes swirling around, ideally that is

my friend is driving to cannock staffs, on his day back to work today but he also had the choice of going to portsmouth, i said go to portsmouth as there is more chance that you will get back home to cheltenham, although he thought different, so i hope he made the correct decision, but then if he went to portsmouth he would of blamed me either way, so thought let the old fool make up his own mind. i know i will be at home keeping warm watching the snow fall.

falling,,was 4,2 when I first got up
nothing in the wind ,not even drizzle
3.8 °C
Clear
Windchill: 1 °C
Humidity: 84%
Dew Point: 2 °C
edit..Alex Deacon
saying parts of wiltshire and Somerset already seeing abit of snow
your temp seems odd, im recording 1.9oC and it's very windy but then again it always is in cleeve, anytime now
-
east midlands thread dont be silly, the scottish will kick off about that as they don't even havent southern or northern divide when discussing the cold spell, and may I add thats a fair point as people forget how big scotland is. it's best to class yourself as midlands because too many regions can overcomplicate these boards, i mean for example cheltenham is it in the midlands is it in the south west, west country, central southern england etc, i know im in the south west midlands shame the people on tv cant make their mind up.
in terms of totals it all depends at this moment of time its hard to predict as the front will break up,its one of those will see on the day.but think we will all see our fair share
-
and the verdict is sleety rain PANTS
oh without doubt it will start as rain, i would be majorly shocked if it just started snowing, just as the temps drop with the time and under heavy rain will aid rain into snow
-
that is ace tommy, cheers you can now see the precipitation over place names, made things so much easier
-
for snow i think we need the heavy precipitation which takes the temperature down further, none of this light drizzle rubbish
-
lets get things started, whats the weather and temps like where you are??
bishops cleeve, nr cheltenham - dry after drizzle, overcast and now 0.9oC
-
drizzle with a hint of whiteness, good start 1.1oC, as I finish writing this it stops
-
Not sure if this is supposed to happen but after a high of 1.7C, the temp has dropped now back to 1.2C. ??
whats your cloud cover like?
-
im still thinking very positive in terms of when heavy rain does come, temperature will always drop, so of course it will start raining but if it's persistent and heavy enough it will turn to snow. high groud like the cotswolds malverns will do well. but not that it will matter as the thaw sets in over the next few days. the only way it will be rain is that the showers will pass over in less than a hour, which looks likely, haha.
-
Its now 1c up from about -4 this morning
game over man, GAME OVER!
it's a thaw before midday today, and that rain is moving in quickly
-
thin cloud here, hazy sunshine and gradually thickening, currently -2 after a low 0f -7.2 last night, if any ppn falls around here today i think snow will be confined to the cotswolds but then it depends when it arrives, bbc say it will pass over very quickly so chances are a covering is possible but to no significance.

something to keep an eye on near swansea its peped up in the last hour.
yeah i commented on that earlier, worth to check development as it's still out at sea picking up moisture, and knowing what south wales and bristol expereince last night, glad someone else supported this development. we really are getting desperate. haha
-
Benjamin in Cirencester do you still have light snow there mate..
dont tell Mullinder you he said that :smiliz19:
hope is lost, latest radar image is a killer, it's shifted east, with little movement north, dont expect anything for at least 3 hours, dont mean to be realistic.
i really fancy a xmas dinner right now, not long now hey. :smiliz34:
-
I think if i gave them a ring and asked them "will it snow in cardiff?", it would be a no.
jay, what do you think of the development of a streamer again, looking out west (south of pembrokeshire) a few light showers have been developing over the morning and have grouped if they continue to develop then the chance of a shower cannot be ruled out, a long shot i must say but worth keeping an eye.
-
temp 1.8 in bishops cleeve north of cheltenham, and it's thawing alot, everything a slushing up but clouds have become alot darker, dont expect anything other than sleet here, the cotswolds will get snow but nothing much, to far west and too far north for this one
-
can i just say to everyone, this is touch and go once the main band comes across temps will rise but at the moment promising for higher ground. just dont get to excited but conditions are set. i don't like to be boring and is usually the excited one, but the intensity looks great at the moment but not sure how much it will fizzle out as it hits land. in terms of timing it will be good as it approaches evening.
-
just on the edge of this one, knowing as soon as it touches the Gloucestershire border it will go directly east, it looks quite intense areas such as oxford could do well from this
-
dusting of snow in cheltenham, really was not expecting that, lovely to see though , havent been on here for well over a year so its great to see and remember the old timers still inputting
i just assumed it stopped and havent checked for 10 minutes and it must of just carried on falling as it looks a whole much more whiter out there
-
Don't be too sure about that. We had heavy snow for an hour before it turned back to rain and we are a lot higher up here
too true yido but temperatures are now set in and the north easterly can be felt, you had snow earlier due to your elevation, but thanks for your realism

i can confrim it is snowing on cleeve Hill and settling in places probably more so on the top but just what i heard from a friend who lives near the rising sun, although it's light and we really need the heavy stuff soon. i doubt i will go up as i have a lot of essays to do. has been sleeting in cleeve but now has virtually stopped, not a bad thing though it allows the ground to dry up a little
