North Donegal really doing well since early yesterday with Streamers and still going.

Unfortunately they are not making it as far west as my location in Donegal, which would be on the coast a bit west of the streamers in the attached image.

We had a rare dumping of snow in 2018 from streamers coming from the east. This was ahead of the main event in the rest of the country.

Even the optimistic model runs look like the snow will have petered out before reaching here, and there's a mountain range for it to cross before getting here.

Still, fingers crossed for a bit of snow, even if it's short lived.

Anybody else getting snow at the minute??

We had heavy snow this morning with deep drifts, then showers all day. Not much this evening since the showers started crossing over more land heading west. They seem to be stalling/dying out east of the Derryveagh Mountain range.

Happy to see a few more get some snow now. We've had our share here.

Think the red warning from met ie a bit over the top. I've had work up here in the north west cancelled as a result.... won't be happy if I'm here this time tomorrow looking at the same starry sky as I am tonight!!

Agree. The heavy snow that would justify a red warning is only likely to begin in the south of the island tomorrow afternoon/evening, Even if it makes it this far north, it will be well after the working day.

A blanket red warning for the country is just stupid and will just cause people to be skeptical in the future.

Interesting. They seemed convinced so we will see what meto say for north. They didn’t seem so sure earlier. Hopefully new info has brought on this warning.

Heard Eileen Cusack mention earlier today that there was one particular model they were waiting for output from tonight and that forecasts would be updated based on that. Sorry, I can't remember what model she mentioned.

Edit: It wasn't any of the models I've seen mentioned on a regular basis this site.

  5. Steady showers here all evening. Fairly light, but the lying snow is building up a bit and some back roads are in bad shape.

The showers are building as they cross over the north coast heading across Lough Foyle and Inishowen, giving us a nice dusting here on the north west coast. Hope to see a bit of lying white stuff in the morning.

2 red warnings by Met Éireann. And for Emma everywhere has a red or orange warning except for donegal, not even a yellow.

There is a yellow warning for Donegal atm.

I'm still hoping for a bit to come our way. Seeing some of the pictures from around the country has me feeling left out :-(.

  7. Hello All.

First post here. I do like a bit of snow and cold weather to break the monotony.

People are getting excited in the models thread, but I haven't a clue what they are talking about. Anyone care to comment on how are prospects looking for a bit of snow in this neck of the woods?

EDIT: Weegaz answered my question as I typed. That's some forecasting ;-).
