The precipitation that's currently in the SW of the country, is that of any interest for us tonight or will it just be bog standard rain?
I think there is supposed to be more action tonight, forecast suggested Thunderstorms possible in South West and Central England the last forecast I saw.
-
Just had heavy convectional rain and hail stones very briefly in Reading, then as it was heading further north east, could hear Thunder coming from it.
-
Can confirm Thunder in Reading just now.
-
I'm in Reading which seems to have a ban on rain today, rain moves towards us and without fail by the time it reaches here rain is off the radar, happened yesterday as well. Would be nice to get of something to get the humidity down a bit.
-
pretty sure I can the cell just north of London from here, very envious.

I can't wait it for it to rain, approx 5 mins away but even if that passes plenty more heading up this way.
-
the tail end of that might have been more impressive for lightning than the front edge of it, coming to a close now in Reading from the looks of it.
-
Big booming thunder, just had a strike reported in a local park, sounded close, real bright.
-
The M3 corridor looks very sparse for lightning strikes.

The intensity seems to have dropped a lot, was a lot of red and orange on radar replaced with greens and it fizzling out.
-
Slough has a storm shield on tonight then, seemed to skip over it and carry on in London.
-
It's a nice but irregular show here, seen some lovely visuals and orange lit up clouds, couple of close strikes but mostly passing over to the east and west of us.
-
lots of lightning from my window just east of Reading, barely any Thunder at all, some nice strikes though.

People always talk about July 3rd yet all we had were 2 very distant flashes of lightning despite places 20 miles away reporting a "huge" storm. Methinks they exaggerated somewhat.......
I was on the South Coast in Central Bournemouth when it made it to landfall, the data for that initial part of the storm was amazing and it carried on for ages across the country too. Wasn't just us that got it, seemed to be many places very widespread, what we got was very intense though.

Well, a good light show here but no direct hit and only a few drops of rain. Almost identical to July 3rd 2015. Bit of a shame, but at least I saw some lightning.
One thing to note was the lack of forks and how fast it moved through. Not seen storms move that quick for a long time.
July 3rd did have a direct hit initially at least, Bournemouth got it directly off a wave in the channel and then 1-3 waves pushed through the country through the night.
-
anyone in Bath right now, it looks like it's very intense there.

Hope so! But looks like west London at best to me.
Basingstoke/Reading is the place to be in the next hour or two
I'm in Reading, looks very promising.
-
The entire south coast looks lit up at the moment.
-
Thunderstorm looks almost inevitable between 1-2am in Reading based off current reports.

This looks heading Reading way...
Standing in Reading watching it move closer from outside it does look that way.
-
one of those lightning strikes on lightning map is right where i used to park my car in Bournemouth, that's so close to my old home.

It's clear overhead but standing in my front garden in east Reading, I can see lightning within the cloud from the South, South East and South West, it's quite a sight.
-
Lymington is next.

Just had lightning out to the west of Reading and deep rumbling Thunder.
