Hi, my comment re white Easter was based on what a few of the models are suggesting for Easter along with met office long range wording change to partly support that view.
The weather will do what the weather will do. My kids and I love cold snowy days as much as we enjoy hot summer days so we make the most of what mother nature provides.
Most RTA's in snow are down to numpties who are driving too fast and/or haven't bothered to buy appropriate vehicles or tyres for the conditions.
I've managed to drive up and down 1 in 8 hills this morning without incident, driven for miles through 3-4" of snow and over ice and driven through 3 feet deep drifts. All possible because I have a lifted Land Rover on huge snow tyres and 40 years off road driving experience. I would not attempt to do the same journeys in a standard road car. If I didn't want to waste money on winter tyres or a 4x4 for the few days they are really needed each year then I'd make sure I had a stock of food and fuel in so I didn't need to go anywhere. If I was reliant on driving somewhere for my job then at the very least I'd invest in winter tyres. Sadly too many people prefer to spend money on other things and then risk their own lives and others by driving in conditions they are not prepared for. Just my opinion and I'm sure many will disagree with me.
I agree that most RTA's are avoidable (the amount idiots on the roads til late last night trying to drive about in dire conditions) but that said I attempted to go out somewhere at tea time yesterday and rapidly changed my mind as the main roads in Scunthorpe were ice rinks. Not everyone can have 4 x 4 stored somewhere for a few days of snow a year. My partner had to work from home for a few days earlier in the month because he works at Lincoln Hospital and the A15 was shut due to drifting snow, he wouldn't feel that comfortable with having to work from home time and again. As for my vehicle, it's a work vehicle owned by my employer and is a Corsa van so only so I have to consider journeys I make in this weather wisely as it's all I have. Easter Friday we have a flight out of the country to Belgium so again it's the hassle that snow causes to airports, I also travel to an office in York twice a week on the trains and they become affected as well.
I do find snow exciting but it's a major hassle as well and I am ready for warm days in the garden.

What a great weekend of weather. Kids have been sledging two days in a row.
I've also had a chance to drive the Land Rover on some very deep snowy lanes and play in 3 feet high drifts.
Snow melting quite quickly now as the sun has come out but Beast2 delivered far better for us than Beast1.
now looking forward to a white Easter
I can't imagine us getting this again at Easter, i'm hoping not anyway as although it's been novel to have the snowfall it's caused an awful lot of RTA's in our area because the roads become lethal very quickly and when you take in to account that Easter weekend is a time when a lot of people are travelling about! Also I don't want to keep feeling like it's mid December forever, i'd like the Spring to arrive! I have a meeting at a level crossing down near Boston tomorrow, I have no idea what that drive will be like with the drifting snow etc.

Some crazy blizzards hitting Scunthorpe tonight, wind really blowing out there.

Roads are horrific out, Scunthorpe is like an ice rink including major roads, accidents everywhere from here to Humber Bridge because of it. Police are getting the gritters to come out to the A15 because no gritting has been attempted today. Car was sliding around at times and scares me to death - glad to be safely back home, stay indoors tonight if you can peeps.

Accumulating in North Lincs now as the intensity of the sun has gone. Just put some stuff in the bin outside and the cold really made me skin throb.
I think drifting could be a nuisance but in Lincolnshire again, I drove across the wolds a week after the last snow and was amazed at the volume of drifts and ploughed snow on the sides of all the roads from Humberside airport to Thorpe St Peter.

It makes me laugh that the dramatic headlines have started with airports cancelling flights as the snow sweeps the country - do they mean this melty stuff that is melting 5 seconds after it lands!

Been for a walk to the shop, snow accumulating in areas not exposed to the sun but very melty elsewhere. It felt wet as it hit my face.
Impressive to look at when it comes down in full swing though.

Sun came out and it got colder a heavier brief snow shower. This stuff is highly polluted so despite being below freezing is struggling to settle on pavements and even where it's given a slight dusting on the grass it is rather wet. Also a walk down to shops showed no ice at all away from cars and my Stephenson screen. So I'm expecting very dirty windows by the end of Sunday like last time.
Yes we had loads of mank everywhere after the last fall, our vehicles and glazing was left covered in soot type stuff - wasn't sure whether to blame the local steelworks or not!

Snowing a heavy but fine snow in Scunthorpe and its settling as everything dried up nicely overnight.

Just spotted the amber warnings, looks like it's all eyes to the skies for us again :-)

Just been seeing sone pics of the frozen rain falling down south and cocooning things, that stuff looks unpleasant and dangerous!!

Went for a drive to Immingham this morning to do a site visit and it was mad how much less snow they had compared to here in Scunthorpe just a fairly short drive away.

To be honest I'm happy for spring to roll in now, until this country learns to cope better with snow it just causes too much chaos, all the footage on the news of people stranded in the roads in just a couple of inch of compacted snow!
I feel for those with kids when the schools are shut for days on end, the main roads are clear as a bell here in Scunthorpe with no reported road closures on the routes in and out of the town yet many schools are shut again, some are only open kids in certain year groups which must cause consternation for families with kids in different year groups at the same school!
I'm ready for a warm spring day in the garden now, we've had 6 months of winter now!

Why does the Metoffice have our region under a yellow warning for today and tomorrow? Only very light snow around and nothing really forecast, so I am ot sure why they have issued one recently?
I get the feeling it's because they aren't sure what we may or may not get or where and they are covering their backsides. They certainly got Tuesday very wrong for a lot of us and it all came weds instead.

Ah can remember back in 2010 I lived in Winterton, epic times the A1077 was blocked a few times so me and my mates all walked to town via Normanby brrr
I'm guessing predictatext turned shut to something else in my post!
My work network is down again today due to the volume of people logging on from home, it's all tremendous fun!

Even in 2010 I don't think the A15 was closed specifically due to snow!!!
The road out of Scunthorpe toward Dragonby and WInterton is *** and apparently has 2ft of snow on it that's blown off the fields.

Echoed my sentiments - I drive a work vehicle and it's a Corsa car van and yes we get in drilled into us about how low the tread needs to be for tyres to get changed.
