The red warning for the whole of RoI is embarrassing if I'm honest. Every Ulster Bank branch in the South closed even in areas with no snow and no forecast snow, yet in the North all branches open even in areas with loads of snow and forecast snow.

    This must be costing millions.

Alright sure Mountain, have no red warning then somebody dies when a tree full of snow falls on top of them, then all the people lose their heads and blame the weather office and the Irish government for not having a red warning. You can't win either way.

Very much overhyped I have felt. If we were experiencing the -12 to -15 uppers and sub zero day time temps with snow like we had in Dec 2010 then yes it may have been a record breaking spell to look back on. As it is it won’t be and given we are heading into March and the sun being stronger I don’t think this will be anything special at all.

But if it is not very severe people will never trust the weather ever again. Any warning in future will just be laughed at each time until something serious actually happens and then people won't find it too funny.

  3. From Louth Weather on Facebook, dramatic stuff..

Weather wise, this could well turn out to be a week we will remember for quite a while. Yes it is that bad.

The situation remains similar to my forecasts last Thursday and Saturday. But with the addition of a deep low pressure system moving north on Friday that looks like it will produce blizzards and large accumulations of snow.

My inbox is full of messages from concerned people wanting to know if they can travel etc. Apologies, I simply cannot answer them all.
My advice is to prepare for a snow event later this week that will leave many house bound for at least a day or two. Businesses, schools and public transport will close IF the low pressure system stays on its current track.

Please share and keep an eye on the page as I will be updating regularly as the situation unfolds.

ECM has around 60cm (SIXTY)of snow in the Dublin area during the course of the week! And that's before the drifts.

How long before Met Eirann put out a red warning?

Maybe not until Wednesday/Thursday, the earlier the put out a red warning the longer they will have to leave it active and it will only cause problems because people will just think there's no point going into work. Going to drive some employers luh-laa.
