  1. Evening all, Hope I find yourselves and your Families well, and managing to cope with these energy sapping conditions. Not meaning to contradict you Pete [Ed Stone] but I think the reference to T/Storms on Thursday, is a temporary early Morning one. Below, is the METO Fax Chart for 12z on Thursday. The Thundery Low that's been around for a few Days has by now moved off the scene and moved deeper into the Continent, with pressure rising ahead of the next set of fronts, moving in from the Atlantic. As you can see from the ECM chart next to it, their view looks pretty much identical to me. UKMO FAX 12z Thurs. 18th. ECMWF 14z Thurs. Thurs. 18th And make that 3 out of 3, with the 12z GFS Model run broadly in agreement with the above two: GFS 14z Thurs. 18th But those Thunder lovers amongst you in the S.E, may well get your T/Storm fix in the next 24 hours. Below, MeteoGroups' Susan Powell with "Weather for the Week ahead": Weather for the Week Ahead - BBC Weather Ms Powell suggesting that our Region will be affected by T/Storms well into the Afternoon, and rumbling on into the Evening, on Wednesday. But the Fronts set to cross our Region on Friday, look to fizzle out. Ms Powell is very apologetic in suggesting we will probably on get some cloud and drizzle but nothing to give the ground, a "solid wetting". She did suggest a doubt that the Forecast wet Day for our Region on Sunday, may not materialise after all. It could be that the Low that is the catalyst for the Forecast Rain, enters the U.K. further North, meaning that our Region will miss out on much needed Rainfall. Ms Powell ended her extended Forecast, on a cautionary note. She stated that Rainfall is likely to be pretty elusive, in our Region. Also that pressure will begin to rise again from the South, during the last Week of Summer, resulting in temperatures warming up yet again. I think it's an accepted fact now, that MeteoGroup tend to use the 00z ECM run, for their " Weather for the Week ahead", extended Forecast. Regards, Tom Q
  2. Afternoon all again, Although I was busy elsewhere on the Furum, I did keep an eye on things from afar. Crikey, it got a bit feisty in here Yesterday Afternoon, didn't it? Not wishing to throw fuel on that extinguished blaze but this Thread, does pretty much does, "what it says on tin". It's a Heat Haters Thread, and if a Member comes in here attempting to extol the very doubtful virtues of the horrendous heat that we have had to endure, during July and the first part of August, they are likely to receive unwelcome comments? Moving on, swiftly. Below, is a map of recent observations, around the Country: As was expected, what we've lost in degrees C, we've gained in humidity. Lots of Relative Humidity in the 80's and even 90's %. I'm sure we'd all agree that to get shot of this vile Weather, it's a case of "No pain, no gain". Right, I'll begin this round up of this Morning's offerings, with a couple of Forecasters who arrived late at the Party, and in no way can claim to have brought about the change in the Weather, themselves. Finally a bloke turned up this Morning, by the name of Mr Alex Beresford of Bristol. Where have you been Alex, whilst letting Dame Laura of Northampton, was doing all the "dirty work"? Poor Dame Laura has had to take three Days off, to recover from the heat and exhaustion, those "game changing" Forecasts have exacted, on her Body. I'm not going to highlight too much of your Forecast this Morning but will just show your thoughts on the way forward, for both the North and the South, of the U.K. Careful Alex, you're standing a bit close to those Southern lightning bolts!! It's a bit late in the Day, for closing the Stable Door after the Horse has bolted. Quite rightly, Dame Laura took the honours available, where your ITV slot is concerned. One thing I will give Mr Beresford credit for, he did give a detailed explanation of what that smell is, that you get after a lengthy dry/hot spell. Evidently it's called Petrichor, below is a link to an explanation of the phenomenon: Petrichor - Met Office And now a certain Ms Carol "humdingers" Kirkwood of Morar [Inverness]. Where have you been, Carol? You've been letting Dame Helen of Chester and Signora Elizabeth "Lizzie" Rizzini of Croydon, do all ,the spade in shifting this disgusting Weather clear of our Shores. BTW, although Lizzie's hand gestures are very Italian like, she is no longer married to Mr. Rizzini but the partner of BBC Journalist, Frank Gardiner. Anyway, below are some examples of this Morning's offerings, from Ms Kirkwood: Yes, that looks pretty accurate, Carol. Blimey Carol, are we keeping you up? Havn't you only just, come on shift? And then, the Liz Truss pout makes, a reappearance. Carol looks ready to lay on egg, regarding some thundery Weather Tomorrow, down in the Sarrf East. But then wishes she could be up in Lerwick, in time for Thursday's Weather. Then Ms Kirkwood is pleased to announce the arrival of a Cold Front on Friday, to finally sweep all of this muck, out of the way. And ultimately, Carol goes "blue blob" mad on Sunday. If it happens just like that, and as long as there is no electrical activity with it, I might be tempted to "do a Katrine", with some singing in the Rain. Below, is how to confuse a Weather enthusiast. I consider my home Postcode of SE12 to be in the South but evidently I will be experiencing light Rain Showers and a gentle breeze but also heavy Thundery Showers. Sort it out BBC, what's it to be? Right, I will now try and be serious for a couple of minutes, which is pretty damn difficult, for Yours Truly. Although some have had some electrical activity with their Rain, I'm genuinely surprised how little Lightning/Thunder there has been so far, with the Ppn. As I've stated before, I'm Brontophobic by nature, and it must be terribly frustrating for you Brontophiles out there, to have suffered in this heat, and not see/hear any Lightning/Thunder at the end of it. It's how I used to feel when we experienced bitter cold but had no Snow, to show for it. I think I've turned my Wife into a budding Amateur Meteorologist!! Colette just appeared and started quoting the Relative Humidity in % terms, of various locations nearby and she also called the feel of the Weather here as, "gloopy". It's only taken me 23 Years to achieve this. But as Colette just said, "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em". Perhaps I should quote my Wife's thoughts, on the rest of this Week's Weather? Actually, I was pleasantly surprised how we both managed to get a reasonably comfortable sleep, last Night. Although I do admit, we still needed all of the Fan Family, operating. Dad and Mum [Fabrizio Fan/Petunia the Pedestal Fan], worked brilliantly with newly born Daughter [Tulip the Turbo Fan}, again as in the same configuration, as below: It felt comfortable enough to keep the door closed to our "Hamster's Cage", and go without the cooler air out on the landing, coming through the open window, of Jane's [SIDSNAKE], spare Bedroom and permeate our "Hamster's Cage". You may wonder how we can possibly sleep with the whirring all Night, of the three strong Fan Family. Colette and myself have been so drained by the build up of heat, over the past few Weeks, that dropping off to sleep, comes pretty easily to us. Plus the added bonus for Brontophobic me, is that the sound of three Fans whirring away, will likely drown out any Thunder about, so long as it's not "shotgun" Thunder, as a result of CG bolts close by. And if President Dami reads this, Colette's lovely Summery meals keep coming. Last night we had, sliced Chicken Tikka Thigh meat, with new Potatoes and Coleslaw. For Today's Lunch, a little tinned Salmon/light Philli Cheese spread with a little onion, and Tonight's offering will be chargrilled Chicken slices, again with new Potatoes and Coleslaw. And Colette takes the trouble to Calorie count all these meals, and they are carefully costed in respect of our meagre household income. Right, back to "Heat Hating" before I stray to far Off Topic, and still the small amounts of rain falling and lack of electrical activity, I find really surprising. Finally, even if those "Heat Lovers" on the opposite side [MAD Thread] of the Netweather House, are still clamouring for a third Heatwave, by the end of this Month. Christ, havn't they had enough now? Never fear President Dami and fellow "Heat Haters", 'ole Father Time is now on our side!! It seemed just a few Days ago that Dawn was stating to burst through our Bedroom window just after 3 A.M. This Morning it took to after 5 A.M. The game is nearly up for the "Heat Lovers", for at least another 10 Months. In two Weeks time, it will be the start of Meteorological Autumn. Don't want to be a "Party Pooper" but I hope we get a St Swithins style Rain Fest, for the next Month. On that pleasant thought for us "Heat Haters", and a sobering one for "Heat Lovers", I'll bid you all farewell. Just want to reiterate, no harm was meant to the reputation of any Female/Male Weather Forecaster, in the making of this post. Regards, Tom.
  3. Afternoon, President Dami, and all fellow Heat Haters. And Buon Pomeriggio, to Signora Basso. Feel I want to run around, like this chap: RAIN, RAIN, RAIN, is rain President Dami, is rain. LLUVIA, PIOGGIA, is RAIN President Dami, So, where are we at now with the Forecast breakdown, of this vile Weather? More manic ramblings from Yours Truly, in a short while. Regards, Tom Q.
  4. Morning all, Hope I find yourselves and your Families, well. Can I just draw your attention to the following paragraph, which will highlight why there is a discrepancy between Forecasts: "On 6 February 2018, BBC Weather changed supplier from the government Met Office to MeteoGroup, after being required to put its weather services out to tender. Previously, the government Met Office had been the provider of weather information for 94 years." P.S. Below, is a link to more information about the MeteoGroup private forecasting organisation: MeteoGroup - Wikipedia Regards, Tom Q
  5. Right, swiftly moving on. Below, are the recent observations from my nearest recording Station: LONDON CITY AIRPORT - Temp - 28c. Dew Point - 14c. Relative Humidity - 42%. I will now post up the latest thoughts of Dame Sarah of Hastings, who has yet again drawn the short straw and finds herself on duty, for MeteoGroup. Dame Sarah began with a look at the depressing, here and now: Hopefully the last of these disgusting temperatures, this Summer. But what are these blue/green blobs and yellow flashes? Even Dame Sarah looks nonplussed. Now with a modicum of understanding, Dame Sarah suggests that the blue/green blobs will start to work their way further South, later on Tonight and more especially Tomorrow. Dame Sarah almost appears apologetic, for the still horrendously high temperatures expected Tomorrow Afternoon, in the East. At this stage of the Forecast, the thought of a drop in pressure and some Rain [whatever that is], has caused Dame Sarah to pout, Liz Truss like. Either that or a sudden attack of constipation but don't worry Dame Sarah, I'll give you some of my Movicol. By Tuesday Morning, Dame Sarah having recovered from stomach discomfort, suggests a more organised band of blue blobs will advance further South, into N.England with some strange blue blobs, appearing in the English Channel. A more assured Dame Sarah, sees some blobs/yellow flashes breaking out over England and Wales, during Tuesday Afternoon. And is pleased to announce, that temperatures are returning closer to normal. Dame Sarah takes on a slightly quizzical look, as the green/blue blobs seem to be intensifying over the South of England, on Wednesday. Dame Sarah saved the best until last but was almost asleep, at this stage of the Forecast but she has put in so many shifts lately, whilst her Male colleagues have been topping up their Sun Tans. Many thanks Dame Sarah, for your tireless endeavours in trying to rid this disgusting Weather, from our Shores. More power to your elbow, and tell those lazy good for nothing blokes, to get off their backsides and do some proper Forecasting. Just want to state, that no Weather Forecasters were harmed, in the making of this post. Regards, Tom Q.
  6. A very Good Morning to President Dami, and all fellow Heat Haters. I have to say, Colette and myself were pleasantly surprised, by how comfortable last Night, felt. Although we did have the Family of three Fans, operating. Also, we had the door and window open of Jane's spare Bedroom, which seemed to help us well. Much thanks to you Jane and Dami, for your very kind words. Never mind about the spare Bedroom, you are cordially invited into the Black hole of Kolkata. I sneakily took the following image, when Colette disappeared downstairs, at 4 A.M. At first I thought she had popped to the Loo but soon realised, she was further afield. So, I took the opportunity, to take the following image, which I hope will go some way to explain, why I bang on about our Doll's House of a property, we live in and it's Hamster Cage sized, main Bedroom. Colette would probably kill me, if she found out I'd taken this snap but here goes: From left to right, on view are newly born Tulip the Turbo Fan, in the middle her Father, Fabrizio Fan and on the right her Mother, Petunia the Pedestal Fan. just behind Fab, is Charlie Chest of Drawers, and sitting astride Charlie is, Teresa the Smart TV. Behind Pet, you may just make out, Clarissa the Clothes Horse. But I do feel sorry for poor Clarissa, the space is so tiny she occupies, means that she can't stretch her legs out. So, as you can probably tell from the dimensions, there is only about five or so feet, between Tulip and her Mother, Petunia. As you can tell, Tulip has taken her Father Fabrizio's colouring and nothing from her Mother, English white rose Petunia As I stated the other Day, Colette's Sister-in-Law from her first marriage, designed these pokey 2 up 2 down properties, for the Housing Association she works for. Thank you so much for our Hamster Cage of a Bedroom Sarah but you just forgot to install a wheel, for us to get some exercise. Speaking of Sarah, in a short while I will post up the latest thoughts of Dame Sarah [Keith-Lucas] of Hastings. Yes, the blokes have left it to the Ladies yet again, to Forecast us out of this mess. Obviously treble time isn't enough to entice them out of their, Sun Loungers. Right, I'd better post this before Colette comes back downstairs, discovers the "Virtual" tour of our Bedroom and has my guts for garters!! Regards, Tom Q
  7. Good Evening to President Dami, and fellow Heat Haters, and Buona Sera to Katrine. Sorry to hear that Katrine, apart from the pain, that lot must feel so uncomfortable, in this heat. My Wife worried me, earlier this Afternoon. Colette suddenly complained of not being able to breathe properly. Although my Wife was diagnosed as being Asthmatic when she was a Teenager, I've never actually seen her have an Asthma attack. I was also diagnosed as being Asthmatic, some Years ago. I lived up in Lincolnshire for a Year, with my first Wife and my Asthma may have been triggered by Rape Seed Oil plants. That part of the Country is a sea of Yellow, during the Spring and early Summer. I havn't had an Asthma attack for many Years now but I have two puffs of my Brown inhaler a Day, as the Stroke I suffered in September 2015, left me with swallowing problems, and the Brown inhaler is taken, just in case I ingest food/liquid, down into my Lungs. Touch wood, it hasn't happened, so far but my G.P. still insists I rerder both Blue and Brown inhalers, in case I need them both. I've got so many Blue inhalers [Ventolin], I'm thinking of opening my own Market Stall!! Really hope the Forecast fresher air arrives in a few Days time, as it's pretty obvious it's having a detrimental impact on those with certain ongoing, medical conditions. Hope you feel some relief soon, Katrine. Evening Dami, Yes, I certainly think Salads are the way to go, in this Weather. Colette is a very good and imaginative, cook. We've been eating a lot of Salads during this Summer, especially since the really hot Weather arrived in July. Colette has avoided putting the Oven on and only puts the hob on briefly, to warm up some new potatoes. We've had so many Jacket Potatoes recently, I'm beginning to look like one. They are really delicious served with a topping of Tuna Mayo, with a side of coleslaw. Colette made her own version of Coronation Chicken, which we had in a Sandwich for Lunch. Tonight's Evening meal, was Quiche, cold new potatoes and coleslaw. Managed to have an hour and a half nap this Afternoon, started with having two fans on, Petunia the Pedestal Fan and for the first time for three Days, her Daughter Tulip the Tower Fan but I still didn't feel comfortable enough, so I had to resort to putting on our long serving, Fabrizio Fan. I've said to Colette already, I think we're going to need all three on Tonight, and do the same as we did last night, in having our Bedroom door ajar to allow that slight Easterly breeze to infiltrate, via an open window in our East facing, second Bedroom. Our Bedroom, just as our Kitchen does, faces West and even with our blinds closed and curtains over the top of them, still the Room temperature is ridiculously high. It was very noticeable this Morning when I came downstairs, how uncomfortably warm it felt in our Kitchen. I was only in there for a few minutes to take some meds, make a cuppa and a bowl of cereal but I could feel beads of sweat, forming on my neck. I couldn't wait to get into or Lounge, to "whack" on our two downstairs fans. As our Lounge faces East, you need them on as soon as the Sun starts "playing" on the widows in this Weather. The temperature shoots up very quickly, and it stays uncomfortable until the Sun has gone around, to the front of the House. So, how are things looking Tonight, regarding a breakdown of this intolerable heat. Below, is the recent situation at our nearest recording Station of London City Aitrport. Temp - 28c. D/Point - 11c. R/H - 35%. Looking at the above Meteociel chart, as was suggested by Forecasters, the main body of heat, has shifted slightly further towards, the West. This Evening's MeteoGroup "Weather for the Week Ahead" and as I awarded so many honorary Damehoods and Knighthoods, at the end of the July heatwave but I do seem to remember Dame Susan of Wellington [Hereford], having one bestowed upon her. Anyway, below is a link to this Evening's offering, from Dame Susan: Weather for the Week Ahead - BBC Weather Dame Susan suggesting there could be some lively T/Storms pushing into N.Ireland/Scotland, during the course of Tomorrow. As we go into Monday, she suggests that the Northern half of the U.K., will again be at risk from some lively T/Storms, including N.England, this could result in some flash flooding. All the time, these Regions will see temperatures easing back to mid-teens, by 6 A.M. but it will still be uncomfortably warm further South, a low close to 20c around London. As a Low tries to move closer to the U.K. on Monday, those Thundery downpours start to encroach into Wales, and the West of England. Some more organised rainfall likely over N.Ireland/Scotland and turning considerably cooler here, by then. Temperatures still close to 30c in E.England on Monday but the chance of Showers here, according to Dame Susan, fairly slim. However by Tuesday, as that area of Low pressure works its way in. the probability of seeing Showers further East, increases. But Dame Susan was at great pains to point out, that these our Showers we are talking about. Some areas could see some heavy downpours, while a few miles down the Road, could see nothing. But Dame Susan did point out as we start to see more cloud developing, associated with this instability and a change in wind direction, temperatures will be returning closer to average, for this time of Year, London around 25c on Tuesday Afternoon. Wednesday, should see a stronger possibility of Showers for Southern districts, with that Low by this time, just South of the U.K. So, Dame Susan suggests it could be Wednesday, when we finally see some meaningful Rain across some parts of England and Wales, with temperatures around average for the time of Year. London back down to a max. of 24c. By this time N.Ireland/Scotland become dry, if still cloudy and a little on the cool side. At the end of the Week, a ridge from the Azores High, is trying to settle the Weather down again. Thursday, perhaps will see a more organised band of Rain for N.Ireland/Scotland, with some isolated Showers drifting across, to E.England. But parts of the North of England, unlikely to have see any meaningful Rain. Dame Susan ended her Forecast, on a cautionary note. She states with High Pressure trying to build in from the Atlantic next Weekend, at the same time heat will again begin to build again over S.Europe, and as we could be under an Easterly flow by that time, we could yet again start to import some heat, from Continental Europe. Well, that's my take on Dame Susan's, "Weather for the Week ahead". Please don't do it Dame Susan, you're in danger of becoming plain 'ole, Susan Powell. I will say this though, her Male colleagues are yet again conspicuous, by their absence. "Bottle jobs", the lot of you. Scared of losing your Forecasting reputations?? Will soon be retreating to to the Black Hole of Kolkata [aka, mine and Colette's Bedroom]. Really hope that Relative Humidity stays below 50%. overnight but that will no doubt be climbing, over the next few Days. Stay cool and hydrated. Night all, Regards, Tom Q.
  8. Try the MAD Thread markyo, there's a few on there!! Regards, Tom Q
  9. My Wife has Irish blood, and she smokes all Year round. Only joking, she gave up a long time ago. Regards, Tom Q.
  10. Morning to President Dami, and all fellow Heat Haters. Yes, I r A 252, around another 48 hours or so of this disgusting heat to endure, before we can breathe again. But as was said the other Day, what we lose in degrees Celsius we unfortunately get an increase in humidity, which will have to be the price we pay, as some moisture and instability are injected into the equation. I had a surprisingly decent night's sleep, last Night, We decided to keep our Bedroom door ajar, and allow some slightly fresher air to come into our Room, from our other Bedroom across the landing, as it's window faces East and as what little wind there was last Night, was flowing from that direction. I have been stirring around 2 A.M. but for a change it was 4.20, when I looked at my Mobile. I knew I had slept through, as the tumbler of water that I brought up to bed with me, remained untouched. Fabrizio and Petunia Fans did a wonderful job last Night, and worked well in tandem and stuck to their tasks, rather simply flirting and oscillating, towards each other, Not sure if Vicky the amorous Vixen was plying her "trade" on the corner of our Close, as the whirring of Fabrizio and Petunia's motors, made it difficult to hear above their, necessary noise. We've decided to keep newborn Tulip the Turbo Fan in reserve but she well will probably, be needed Tonight. Below, are the recent observations, from nearby London City Airport: Temp - 21C, Dew Point - 15c. Relative Humidity - 69%. I can already feel that increasing humidity, sitting in my East facing Lounge, even with our two downstairs Fans on. So, how are things looking, as we go through the Weekend and the early part of next Week? This Morning's offerings are from two of BBC's, female Meteorologists. Dame Sarah [Keith-Lucas] of Hastings. She was awarded her Damehood, after getting us out of that last bout of filthy Weather, back in July and still on duty late Yesterday Afternoon was Signora Elizabeth Rizzini. Let's have a look at what Dame Sarah, has to offer. Dame Sarah looked very concerned about the lack of Rainfall, around the Southern half of England. But became about more animated when suggesting that relief was at hand, in a few Day's time, with the second image. Dame Sarah, ended on an optimistic note, with a promise of some Thundery Showers, and a noticeable drop in temperature, for London. Meanwhile, Signora Rizzini, looking very fetching I must say, in another number from her Summer wardrobe, began on a familiar note. Then our Lizzie, looking as if she was going to faint from heat exhaustion, then noted the probable catalyst for change, a Thundery looking Low that is expected to develop, over France. Signora Rizzini went on to add, that the expected Thundery Showers, could be very "hit and miss" but where they do occur, could result in some flash flooding, due to the rock hard ground, after such a long period without any Rainfall. But Signora Rizzini suggested the possibilty of some of these Thundery Showers, showing their hand, on Monday. With an increasing risk on Tuesday and Wednesday But Signora Rizzini ended her Forecast on an optimistic note, with a fall off in Temperatures, as we head through next Week. Finally, she looked very happy on our behalf, when presenting, these final two charts: If you've got this right Signora, molte grazie from President Dami and all members of the H.H.P. [Heat Haters Party]. Is it just coincidence, that all these Ladie's male colleagues seem to go missing when there is a likelihood of a breakdown and end to this God forsaken Weather, or are they too scared to put their reputations on the line, if their Forecasts go awry? I see some on the opposite side of the spectrum [Heat Lovers Party], are already willing yet a third heatwave to hit us, in September. Not wishing to play Weather Politics but havn't we seen enough damage done to the health and infrastructure of this Country, so far this Summer? One Man's meat is certainly another Man's poison, and this one is well and truly fed up with being poisoned, by this Summer!! Roll on Autumn, I say. Regards, Tom Q.
  11. Hi Leeanne, And if those wildfires break out over your way again, as they did the other Evening. Do you think you could extinguish the flames, before they make it over to Lee, on that East.wind. Cheers, Tom.
  12. Morning all, fellow heat haters and especially to Dami. So pleased to hear that you're all ok. Colette asked me to pass her best wishes on to yourself, and your Family. So, here we are then on the first Day, of those truly horrendous temperatures. Just want to post up a few screenshots of what may be in store for us, over the coming few Days. Signora Razzini was on duty Yesterday Evening for MeteoGroup's, "Weather for the Week Ahead". Below is Ms Razzini, looking suitably attired for a hot Forecast, with the salient parts of her Forecast: As we are aware, not a great start. But what's this blue stuff and some good cheer for the Brontophiles, amongst you. The electrified blue stuff, becoming a bit more widespread on Wednesday. But she's not sure how extensive, it will be? That a girl Lizzie, now you're talking: Meanwhile, this is Dame Laura of Northampton's take on the next Week or so: I'll begin with Dame Laura's prospects, for the North: Now Ms Tobin's extended outlook, for the South: After the Lizzie and Laura show, it's looking good for us Heat Haters to finally rid ourselves, of this disgusting Weather!! Just want to make a reference to the very worrying situation, that Dami and her Family, were faced with Yesterday Evening. Without giving mine and my Wife's exact address away, below is a Google Map image of the area close to where we live: Less than half a Mile to our E.S.E., is Horn Park. It is a large open space of long grass [now tinder dry], and woodland. Myself and my Wife, were taking some pleasant walks for exercise around there, a couple of Weeks ago. But when those wildfires started to break out across Greater London recently, I said to my Wife that it would be prudent to give this are a miss, until we see some appreciable rain. As Dami pointed last night, she suspected her local fire may have been started deliberately. And it wouldn't surprise me if one of our local egits, thought it would be fun to do a similar thing, as they have plenty of time on their hands, being on holiday, from School. Rather worryingly, we are directly downwind of that vast area of tinder dry landscape, with the forecast wind expected to be roughly from the E.S.E., over the Weekend: Hopefully we can bestow a Damehood on Signora Rizzini, to join Dame Laura of Northampton, and become Dame Elizabeth of Croydon, as long as that expected breakdown finally occurs, in this atrocious Weather we set to face in the coming few Days. Then we can all finally, breathe a sigh of relief. Make it so, Ladies. Stay cool, hydrated and above all safe, fellow Heat Haters. Regards, Tom Q
  13. Dami, that is awful. I'm sure I speak on behalf of everyone, we hope things turn out well for yourself and your Family. Take care. Very best wishes, Tom and Colette
  14. Morning President Dami and fellow Heat Haters, Hope that your Families and yourselves are all well, and suitably "tooled up" against this horrendous heat, now beginning to engulf us. The recent situation, at my nearest recording Station , depicts this perfectly. LONDON CITY AIRPORT - Temp - 19C. Dew Point - 16C. Relative Hunidity - 83%. Already uncomfortable in our Lounge, despite having Fatima the Exchange Student Fan and Todrana the Tower Fan, working in tandem. Fats mumbles as she oscillates, something about you lightweights, pathetic that you can't take a bit of heat. But Fats this is London, not Istanbul!! As expected, last Night wasn't as comfortable as the previous two Nights, despite having the loved up couple, Febrizio Fan and his Sweetheart, Petunia the Pedestal Fan on full blast, throughout the Night. My Wife still maintains, we should get a fourth Fan but where could it possibly go, in the Black Hole of Kolkata, I ask myself? Meanwhile the new arrival Tulip the Turbo Fan, sits quietly awaiting instructions to join her Parents [probably Tonight], in trying to helps myself and my Wife, achieve a decent Night's sleep. Fabrizio and Petunia are quite noisy but had some competition late last Night, from Vicky the amorous Vixen who plies her "trade", on the corner of our Close. She is also normally heard around Dawn, and sounds as if it's one of our Neighbour's, being strangled. One of our neighbours has attracted a lot of criticism for feeding the Foxes, and also Pigeons. But it's hard to get angry with Pensioner, Christine. Last Year her cute little Yorkshire Terrier, Pebbles, was savagely attacked and killed by a Pit Bull, in our local Park. Fortunately Chrissie, still has the company of Billy, a part Norwegian Forest Cat. Poor chap really looks fed up, in the current heatwave conditions. We have some very noisy Canine neighbours. either side of us. The half Italian Lady [told you they get everywhere] to our right has two Dachshunds, called Gucci and Snoopy. Hope our Neighbour isn't thinking of making a Leather handing out of a Female Sausage Dog. The Daughter to our left, has just acquired two French Bulldog Puppies. Both sets of our Canine neighbours get very upset, when their Mummies, leave the House. But this Morning it wasn't them or Vicky the Vixen that woke me but daylight streaming through Bethany Blinds, Welsh Twin Sister of Belinda Blinds, down in our Kitchen. We have miniscule front and back gardens, barely bigger than a Postage Stamp, befitting of this tiny 2 up 2 down H.A. property, very prevalent in this part of South East London. Our back garden, is really looking sorry for itself but not half as bad as Sheldon Shed, who has completely collapsed and been inhabited by a Family of Foxes. My Wife caught them frolicking about on the parched landscape last Week. Not sure if it's Vicky Vixen's brood, as I've not been able to tag her! Before any Animal Rights individuals get their "knickers in a twist", that was just a bit of artistic licence. Am I allowed to apply for an ASBO against Vicky Vixen, for her anti-social nocturnal behaviour? Darren our "Help the Aged" recommended Gardener has offered to salvage Sheldon Shed from his sorry state but I really do think Sheldon is beyond saving. I would take a photo of Sheldon Shed but he's camera shy, or more to the point Yours Truly is too embarrassed, at the sorry state, Sheldon Shed has got into. But good 'ole Darren did manage to lop of some of the branches off of our four Leylandii bushes, which 'er indoors planted when she first moved, here. They have grown really rapidly, and were starting to resemble extras in a Jack and the Beanstalk Pantomime. During a very windy spell, a couple of Years ago, we thought they were going to come crashing down, on the back of the House but fortunately, that didn't happen. Right, what has all this got to do with Heat Hating, not a lot to be honest. So, where do we stand in respect of that breakdown of the heat, promised by Signora Elizabeth Rizzini yesterday Evening, for Canines, Cats, Foxes and us in the Heat Hater's Party. The lovely Dame Laura Tobin of Northampton is still holding the line and put together the following very convincing argument for a termination of this intolerable heat early next Week, earlier on ITV's G.M.B. To be even handed, I've included The North, from Dame Laura's outlook: And just for you President Dami and those of Brontophiles amongst you, a bit of electrical stuff promised!! Please be right Dame Laura, pretty please!! The yapping coming from Gucci and Snoopy is reaching a crescendo, and driving me mad!! Regards, Tom [Fifth Valley].
  15. Evening President Dami and fellow Heat Haters, Hope that your Families and yourselves are all well prepared for the horrors, about to descend on us all. Correct Mr Mathematician. My Italian Mother traces back to a chap called Bernardo di Quintavalle [Bernard of the 5th valley]. Evidently he was a Merchantman who gave all his wealth away [sounds like Mum's Family], to follow St. Francis of Assisi. He became the Primo Monaco [First Monk], when St. Francis set up his Franciscan order of Monks. In that case, how about Tom Quintomonaco [5th Monk]. This probably accounts for why I developed a bald patch on the top of my bonce, in my mid 20's. Not a great look, for a vain half Italian. Very close Pete, I suppose Mum could well have been called Signorina Quintacasa [Miss Fifthhouse], when she was a young Lady but think I prefer the 5th Valley, version. Speaking of Italians, they get everywhere!! Tonight's attempt to rid us of this diabolical heat, comes from the delightful Signora Elizabeth Rizzini. She might not be known to many outside of the South East. She actually grew up in Croydon. Hope that's correct Signora Rizzini, who used to be married to an Italian. Anyway, here is your pitch for a Damehood: Weather for the Week Ahead - BBC Weather Signora Rizzini does warn that due to the prolonged dry spell, if Thundery downpours do occur, they could well be some run off and dare I say it, a little flash flooding? May I be a touch informal here and suggest if you're accurate with that suggestion of some eventual fresher air, and some rain at last, you will be known on these pages as, Dame Liz of Croydon. Make it so, Lizzie!! Liking the way you're pushing the worst of the heat, to the West of London. Apologies to Swindon, etc but we've had our fair share, in the London area. Yes and a little breeze up the Thames Estuary [steady on Matron!!], for an IMBY perspective would be much appreciated, too. Meanwhile at a local level, fearing a more uncomfortable night, than the last few;. LONDON CITY AIRPORT: - Temp - 26c. Dew Point - 13c. Relative Humidity - 45%. Meanwhile the loved up couple, Fabrizio Fan and his white English Rose, Petunia the Pedestal Fan, have been told their Evening off, has been cancelled and to report for duty Tonight and to be on their game, and to stop this flirting and oscillating towards each other. Their newly born Daughter, Tulip the Turbo Fan: Is being kept in reserve, for when the real heat kicks in again. Finally, it does look like it will be well into next Week before we see those nasty red colours diminishing. This from the 12z ECMWF, for t168 [Weds 17th] , Looks like it may well go BANG, to get us out of this mess. Not sure I like those nasty red colours, still so close by though!!. Regards, Tom Fifthvalley.
  16. Afternoon President Dami, I think he's a clone of Darren "at least it will be mild" Bett. Regards, Tom.
  17. Very worrying Pete, isn't it. To try and adapt to the heat more successfully, I've even adopted my Italian Mother's. maiden name. I really hope this doesn't stretch on into September. We really are beginning to acquire, a Mediterranean type climate. Regards, Tom.
  18. Morning again, Have just seen the end of the 00z ECMWF run, and it's a worrying trend for us Heat Haters. it now takes until t216 [Day 9], to disperse the heat: Not sure I'm liking the way the heat is lurking just to the S.E, of us. Surely not another kick in the stomach, as we head into September. Sort it out Weather Gods, that's officially a Month of the Autumn Season!! Meanwhile, I see that humidity levels are starting to rise: LONDON CITY AIRPORT: Temp - 19c, Dew Point - 15c, Relative Humidity - 78%. Thankfully, myself and 'er indoors had a reasonable night, in the black hole of Kolkata [our Bedroom]. We still needed two fans on, mind. But it started to feel a bit chilly, later in the night. So much so, that we had to pull the Duvet cover over us. My Wife had taken out the actual Duvet, a few Days earlier. Colette asked me if I thought she should buy a fourth [yes 4th] fan for our Bedroom but I couldn't see the point of that. There would be no place to put it, for a start. It would probably just be circulating hot air, in a couple of night's time, plus our Electric Smart Meter, will be crying out to be fed again!!. We're holding back the third fan, until the heat really kicks in but that could well be Tonight, if that humidity keeps on rising!1 Regards, Tom.
  19. Morning President Dami, and fellow Heat Haters. Hope I find yourselves and your Families well, and prepared for what we are about to receive from the Weather Gods. I see some of the Heat Lovers are claiming, there will be no breakdown of heatwave conditions but not according to UKMO/GFS UKMO at t120 and t144 [Monday/Tuesday] At the same time frame, GFS shows, the following: Meanwhile, the lovely Dame Laura of Northampton, is holding the line: Now this from ECMWF, at t120 and t144: To my non technical eye, that certainly looks like a Thundery breakdown to me;. Not sure what part of the Forum, I saw the post on but as one Member stated, what we lose in temperature is offset, by quite a rise in humidity levels, unfortunately. That looks especially so, on the ECMWF model. Can't ever recall the Met Office, releasing one of these before, Fire Severity Index. Very worrying for the South East, in particular: Fsi - Met Office The disappearance of the exceptional high bracket [Pink], seems to coincide with the possibility of their forecast Thundery breakdown. Che sera, sera. If it has to go bang, sobeit!! As long as we come out the other side, of this horrendous spell of heat. As for Mr Tomasz Schafernaker of Gdansk, I hope you weren't telling porkies yesterday Evening, with your promise of cooler Weather. I hope Dame Laura, puts you to shame Tomasz. Regards, Tom.
  20. Told you it was a mistake to defect, to the dark side Sb!! Lol. I'm sure President Dami will be pleased to welcome you back. Recent situation at my local Recording Station,. of London City Airport. Temp - 23C. Dew Point - 13C.Relative Humidity - 53%.: Probably. just a couple of relatively comfortable nights, before that horrendous heat is back again, until Sunday. Mr Schafernaker still making a claim to become Sir Tomasz of Gdansk, with the following good news [hopefully]: Weather for the Week Ahead - BBC Weather My Brontophobic tendencies would prefer the transition to cooler air, not to be accompanied by flashing, crashing and banging but beggars can't be choosers. If I have to run the gauntlet of a Thundery breakdown, sobeit. Anything to get some relief, from this horrendous heat. The Summer started so promisingly as well, with the Azores High, often an enemy of Cold Lovers in the Winter, was behaving itself in June by remaining to our S.W., allowing a cooler W/N.W. flow, over the U.K. But during July and early August, it's become our enemy, by ridging over the U.K., and back in July migrating to our East, to allow that stifling heat to invade the U.K, from the South. Will someone anaesthetize me until Tuesday, when by then it will finally be all over and as our Friend Lassie23 stated the over Day, crawl back under the stone from whence it came and not to darken our doorstep again. Well for another 10 Months, at least!! Stay cool and hydrated, Colleagues. Regards, Tom.
  21. Morning President Dami and fellow Heat Haters, Hope I find yourselves and your Families well, and prepared for this latest burst of horrendous heat. Think the heat is already getting to me, or my problematic eyesight, was responsible for the following typo: QUOTE: "We plan to get out early Tomorrow Morning and be back before Noon, before the hat of the Day, kicks in". Should've gone to Specsavers. Well, I hope my hat doesn't kick me and protects me from the still very strong UV Levels and stays firmly on my bonce, when my Wife and myaelf, venture out for a bit of exercise, in an hour or so!! Wasn't too bad a Night for sleeping but we still required two fans operating in our tiny Bedroom. We have a 2 up, 2 down Housing Association property, which has to be the most poorly designed property I've lived in for comfort, when a very warm/hot period is experienced, during the Summer Months. Ironically this House was designed by my Wife's Sister-in-Law, from her previous marriage. Build 'em small, knock 'em up quickly and coin the rent in, from the Tenants. The back of our House, including our Lounge faces East and as soon as the Sun rises, even with curtains closed, sends the temperature sky rocketing and even with two fans on, stays uncomfortable until Lunchtime. Our Bedroom, not big enough to swing a Cat in, faces West and even with our blinds and curtains closed, gets the full force of the Afternoon Sun, and also needs two fans on to allow Yours Truly to have a semi comfortable, Afternoon Siesta. Still hoping for our dream move to a couple of miles inland from the West Sussex Coast, to a Bungalow. Then hopefully we can escape future intolerable heat of, South East London Summers and experience some cooling Sea breezes, during any Summer heatl. Below, is a Meteociel Chart, showing the latest Temps, Dew Point, Relative Humidity, etc, etc, Our nearest recording Station of London City Airport, is showing - Temp. [16c], Dew Pt [15c], R/H [94%] That's already in the very uncomfortable bracket, for humidity!! With that in mind, myself and Colette are having a very early Morning before the Heat or my Hat, kicks in!! Anyway, now for a bit of good news, even Darren "at least it will be mild" Bett and scourge of NW Cold and Snow lovers, is singing from the same hymn sheet, as Tomasz Schafernaker of Gdansk, with talk of a cool down early next Week: BBC Weather - Home Make it so, Darren of Scunthorpe, otherwise no Knighthood for you!! But don't smile when you mention mild temperatures, during this coming Winter, otherwise any Knighthood bestowed upon you, can just as quickly be taken away. Regards, Tom.
  22. Evening President and fellow Heat Haters, Hope you are all prepared for the next Week of disgustingly high temps!! Managed to get some kip, during this Afternoon's Siesta but needed two fans on in our Bedroom to achieve it. Just finished a lovely refreshing Evening meal of cool, sliced Chicken Tikka, new potatoes, lettuce beetroot and spring onion. It was absolutely delicious and plenty enough, with the heat increasing again. Never feel like eating much, in this Weather. Have requested some Mackerel Salads, in the coming Week. Can't remember if I awarded an honorary Knighthood to Mr Tomasz Schafernaker, back in July, for helping to banish the last heatwave, from whence it came. His colleagues have certainly blotted their copybooks, with allowing "silly" numbers back on their Temperature Charts. But Tomasz, now minus the "beatnik" look, and hair as short as it has been for some time, has just staked a claim for another stab at a Knighthood, with this Evening's MeteoGroup Forecast, for the Weather for the Week Ahead: Weather for the Week Ahead - BBC Weather As we are aware, not good news at first but Tomasz does seem confident about dispersing this horrendous heat, next Week with some "lighter" colours, replacing those nasty reds. No, we certainly are not "jumping for joy" with your initial thoughts Tomasz but if you are correct with what seems to be some confidence about a "stream of air" coming off the Atlantic to freshen things up, although there does seem to be some doubt about any possible rainfall. From an IMBY point of view, even though it looks like being hot in my neck of the woods, the heat could well be tempered by a strong breeze, blowing in from the Thames Estuary, and forcing the highest of the temps further West across S.England, towards S.Wales. But we in the Heat Haters Party, will certainly be "jumping for joy", if you are correct with your longer term Forecast, and we will be very grateful and in future you will be known as, Sir Tomasz of Gdansk. Have already suggested to my Wife, that I think we should terminate Tomorrow Morning's walk before Noon, before the temperature climbs towards the late 20's C. It could well be our last bit of exercise walking until the temps, drop to more "sensible" numbers!! Regards, Tom.
  23. Hear! hear! President Dami. Yes, this crazy heat is causing a myriad of health problems, as Katrine alludes to above. I remember the very warm/hot spell in the Summer of 2018, with worrying memories. My left ankle area swelled up to twice the size of my right, and my Wife was very concerned that I was about to have another Stroke. You could literally see fluid slopping about under the skin, in the ankle area. So, she took me off to Sidcup Hospital's, Urgent Care Dept. Eventually I saw a Doctor, who diagnosed Heat Exhaustion but I explained to the Doctor that I hadn't even been out in the Sun. He came back with the reply, that in such high temps as we've been having, you don't have to and if you live in a property that retains heat, that can be enough, to cause such symptoms. After checking my Blood Pressure, which was fine fortunately, sent me on my way with the advice to keep my left foot elevated and to make sure I'm drinking plenty, and the swelling should soon disappear. Fortunately it did, the following Day. My Wife has given up on using the Oven, and just uses the Electric Hobs, for a short while. Even that sends the temperature shooting up. It is very noticeable, as you climb the stairs up to the Bathroom and our Bedroom. My Wife has been using our Microwave, much more than our Cooker. We've been having a lot of Microwaveable Jacket Potatoes, with Tuna Mayo and Coleslaw. Also, cold sliced meats with new Potatoes and Salad items. Fortunately Colette is very adept at making a variety of light Summery meals, without having to use our Cooker. Just been informed we have sliced, cold Chicken with either a Jacket Potato or new Potatoes and Salad, this Evening. As I stated earlier, this blasted Weather is forcing us to curtail our late Morning, exercise walking. We walked three Miles on Friday, and it was so refreshing to be out in the fresher air on that Day. The cooling N.W. breeze felt so nice on our skin, after that horrendous spell, in the 3rd Week of July. I made the mistake of not postponing a Walk around that time, and I'm sure I had a touch of Sunstroke, when we got back home that Day, even though I had worn a Panama Trilby, throughout that walk. I see someone on the MAD Thread posted these Fire Risk Warning charts, a couple of hours ago. The square of red over S.E. London, is right over us here, in Lee. Don't think we'll be walking anywhere near any long grassland or heavily wooded areas, any time soon and not until we've had a good drop of rain. Regards, Tom.
  24. Morning President Dami and fellow Heat Haters. Hope I find yourselves and your Families well, and well prepared for another blast of horrendous heat. Although the figures on the link below, are now out of date. It's interesting to have a retrospective look at the temps that were recorded, on 10th August, 2003. Highest Temperature in UK - Current Results I can vividly remember Sunday 10th August, very well. Sitting in my Partner's apartment in Anerley, S.E. London, feeling like a wet rag, fit for nothing and nothing wanting to feel like that again, Below, are the 500hPa, 850hPa and 2 metre charts, from 12z on Sunday 10th August, 2003. So, here we are just short of 20 Years later, facing yet more horrendously high temperatures, after the July "horror show" But sit tight, fellow Heat Haters, let's hope UKMO are on the ball, with this chart from their 00z Run: 00z Sunday 14th August G.F.S. get there a Day later, with a seemingly less dramatic breakdown. Just waiting for the ECMWF to finish it's 00z Run, and hoping for a clean sweep of more pleasant temperatures, by early next Week. Totally agree with the comments of SIDSNAKE and THE PIT above. I also think BBQ's should be banned. One of our neighbours was having one Yesterday Evening, and both myself and my Wife commented on it being a bit irresponsible. Another wild-fire broke out in Feltham West London, last Night. Recently, there were wild-fires just to the East of here, in Lee, at Bexleyheath. With another one reported, some Six miles South of here, in West Wickham. A few Days ago we received a letter from our local Borough Council [Lewisham], alerting us to be aware of fire hazards, such as having a BBQ. Having a Birthday in early September, I'm fully aware of how warm/hot the beginning of this Month, can be. I suppose the next temperature landmark we need to keep an eye, is the record temperature for September. As I understand it, that stands at 34.4C [93.;9F] and recorded at Gravesend in Kent, on 13th September 2016. Below, are the 500hPa, 850hPa and 2 metre charts, from 12z Tuesday 13th September 2016. But hang in there Heat Haters, as sure as Night follows Day, this horrendous Summer will soon be on it's last legs, and it will be time for the Season of "mellow fruitfulness", and Lassie's October Fog Index. Although the Heat Lovers may be in denial, they've had their Day in the Sun/Heat, it's time for us Heat Haters, to have our Day in a cooler Sun. Totally agree with this comment from LASSIE23, that he posted on Saturday: QUOTE: "Enough hot weather, return to the stone you crawled from under and never visit this island again. Unless you keep it to a pleasant 24c during the day and 9c at night, then come in and take seat." Because of these ludicrously high temperatures, myself and my Wife have had to curtail our exercise walking, which was beginning to pay dividends, in reducing our weight and improving our health, in general. We plan to get out early Tomorrow Morning and be back before Noon, before the hat of the Day, kicks in. That will probably be the last of our walks, until the temperature drops back from "silly" numbers, hopefully next Week. Regards, Tom.
  25. Morning all, Hope I find President Dami, fellow Members of the Heat Haters Party and your Families, well. Looks like we've got to prepare ourselves for another bout of disgustingly high temperatures about to engulf us, especially in the South and East. Myself and my Wife enjoyed a marvellous 3 Mile walk late Yesterday Morning, to, from and around our local Park. Temperatures in the low 20's C, a cooling breeze from the N.W., prolonged sunshine with just a few flat, fair weather Cumulus clouds about. Absolutely perfect walking Weather. But for some individuals further North/North West, that's not enough. The Summer of 2018 was plenty hot enough for Yours Truly, with that July having a C.E.T. of - 19.1C. This July came in at 18.2C, 2.2C above the rolling average. Below - Daily temperature values for the year against 1961-1990 climatology. Below - Mean temperature anomalies for each full year in the CET series against 1961-1990 climatology Very depressing reading for us Heat Haters but something we're going to have to get used to, seemingly. August 2022 to the 4th so far - 19.4C , already 3.6C above the long term average. Roll on September, Autumn and more sensible temperatures!! Regards, Tom.
