And feeling cold when I’m walking round the park or sitting on a bench. Today wasn’t comfortable for doing outdoor activities. Hopefully it’s going back up to the 20s soon.

I rarely feel the cold, and even in winter on a cold day I'll happily go out without a coat on as long as it's dry.  Cold I find energising; there's nothing better for walking than a cool, brisk wind, but warm weather makes me feel sweaty and irritable. I find it impossible to sleep when it's warm too.

To be honest i find this weather far more usable than hot sunny conditions. The lack of sweating makes garden jobs etc far more enjoyable. I don't sit in the sun, never have, never will. Understand though you do though June is looking not hopeful i'm afraid, July may bring something more to your liking.

The lack of sweating makes everything easier - especially sleeping.

I understand the concern, but I really don’t think a 2007 summer would benefit anyone. Cool damp summers are useless. You can’t really enjoy any outside activities without getting wet, or dodging showers. I don’t miss those late 2000s summers. They were depressing.

Still, after all this good weather, people who crave miserable conditions, may just get their wish. A few days of rain would be sufficient.

A dull summer just makes people depressed.

I wish you'd stop trying to speak for everyone.

I, for one, hate hot weather.  I do not crave endless sunshine, and cloudy, damp summers are infinitely preferable to the nightmare that was 2018.  And I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks the same as I do.

Will always remember that day. and the night of the 26th into 27th too, i remember watching the storms make their way up from London, and warning some friends we're gonna get some big thunderstorms soon and by about 2am, it reached us and the lightning was so spectacular it goes into my top 3, with July 3/4th 2015 and July 23/24th 2019 being the others. Was watching these until about 4am when they moved on. Only had around 4 hours sleep because by 8am another round of storms was skirting to the west and some flashes were slightly visible but thunder was audible clearly. Then the rest of the day was muggy and warm and got quite cloudy, and around 3 pm the first signs  of storms started showing on the radar, and was watching the first one just past east but thunder was continuous, then saw one develop exactly on the path where i was. These got bigger and more intense and kept firing in the same line for a good few hours. I think they started as elevated but then became surface based if im not mistaken, massive CGs with shotgun thunder were frequent, some pea sized hail and the rain was biblical, it caused flooding around here in places that i didn't even know could flood. Around the entire house there was surface water flooding but luckily didn't get too deep that it went inside the house. I went for a small walk when the rain got a little lighter and there was chaos with floods everywhere, even cars getting stuck a few roads up from me. Out of nowhere the heavens opened once again and got absolutely drenched in literally seconds, and had to walk through a river on a road to get back home, the storms continued until around 7pm. An amazing day weather wise.

    That was my experience too.

I'd never see anything like it, it went so dark and the rain was truly biblical for a while.  Our back garden flooded and the water came within an inch of flooding our living room - we actually had to open the back gate to allow the water to flow out and into the road.

My point was that people have the tools to warm up in the cold - ie thick clothes, central heating and the like. It’s their own fault if they don’t make any provision for warm or hot weather if it causes that big of a problem. It’s a classic British trait - moan about something, then do nothing about it to correct it

I was saying it’s not that difficult to manage the few spells of hot weather we get per year in this country if you actually try. People just don’t, and sit there and whinge.

I can't afford aircon, and I don't cope well with warm weather, so please don't lecture others.

The reason nobody has aircon is because it’s only usually hot enough to need it a few times a year! If people were that worried about it then they’d ditch their cigarettes, booze, fancy phones, cars and holidays or whatever they indulge in and get some form of AC installed. You can get a portable one for a couple of hundred quid to do the job.

Did you even read what I wrote in my post?

I said "...it's generally easier to warm up in cold weather than cool down in warm weather, especially in the UK since so few of us have aircon."  Your post in no way contradicts what I said.

You may as well ignore that particular poster. He only really moans it’s not cold enough in the winter, then just appears for 3-4 months in summer to complain about how terrible and hot 20c+ is before disappearing again. Clockwork.

Well some people love the cold and hate the heat.  Plus, it's generally easier to warm up in cold weather than cool down in warm weather, especially in the UK since so few of us have aircon.

  8. I remember June 1986 was a fairly sunny and warm month with the rest of the summer being cool and damp, most of summer 1987 being quite cloudy and cool, and 1988 was very wet.  Can't say much about summer 1985 though.
