It doesn't look like it's melting in Kiruna anytime soon, however. Usually cold waves in Northern Sweden are very momentum-based and last quite long. December is also cold enough for low-pressure systems to very rarely bring anything other than snow too.

It's gotten really cold up there now. Lycksele saw a -22°C high today or thereabouts, while coastal non-Lapland towns were around -15°C. Needless to say the snow there reliably lasts for more than three months, unlike here south of Stockholm, when it hardly takes hold all winter long.

Foreign Liverpool fan here, will it be below average temperatures for the United game on Sunday on Merseyside or is that still just on Friday and Saturday? I sense a warming tendency in the Weatheronline forecast.
