What does the sun look like again?? I think the last time I saw it was 15 days ago, no exaggeration.
And not much forecast for the next week either. Garbage weather

Extremely wet morning here, shower after shower. Very surprised no weather warning as lots of local flooding issues.

Storm Ciaran now named by the Met Office for Thursday with weather warnings for rain and damaging wind.

Definitely the best storm we've had in many years last night. It's been such a bad year I'd totally given up. Every time you thought wow this is crazy it seemed to ramp up a level. Constant thunder and lightning for about 45 mins. Rainfall rates were very impressive. Finished with a couple of louder CG strikes.

This weekend which a day ago looked sunny until Sunday afternoon now looks pretty cloudy on Saturday (unless in the far East) and showery on Sunday, without any big storms. So a pretty benign weekend. Roll on Met Office warning for severe weather.

Nothing remotely thundery. Overcast all day, a few light showers. Worst year for storms on record here. But we have had a decent spell of hot weather so can't complain too much.

More of a southerly breeze in the past hour and just clouded over here, 31 degrees on my weather station will probably be the max. Possible rogue downpour later?

Last night's storms were as pathetic as the summer weather this year. No disguising one of the worst summers in recent times for the South East. Little heat, limited sun,no storms etc. Is this negative? No just accurate.

I love most if what the Met Office does, especially it's YouTube content. But...on the subject of weather warnings, I would love to know how many have been issued here in the South East for storms (or winds) over the past few years. I can say none of them for those reasons have actually been merited so far here. Literally can't think of an example. So when a weather event happens which does warrant a warning do you think people will take notice/action? I think the bar for warnings should be much higher and all these very low impact ones removed.

Forecast is going badly wrong here, unexpected cloud pushing up France is rapidly getting caught by the front from the west. Joke summer of 2023 continues.
That cloud is now taking over here too gradually from the south west, absolutely comedy.

Today must be a candidate for one of the worst high summer days ever.
Well we just had a minute of blue sky, must play the lottery today.

I follow the French weather channel (Chaine Meteo) and they have been predicting changeable weather up to around 8 August for the most of France with the exception of the South East part. Then high pressure moves in. Will be interesting to see if they are right. Generally speaking I've found them to be pretty accurate for the long term forecasting.

Interesting thoughts regarding the potential earlier arrival of the thundery mass towards the SE coast. Would be a shame further south if that cirrus field scuppered temperatures significantly enough to reduce convection. Further north up here it is very sultry indeed with hazy sunshine and hopefully we can get things initiated over the Midlands later without too much trouble from the aforementioned cloud. It's already approaching 20C here with stifling humidity in the 70s
Hopefully, given it's cirrus, the sun can still get some decent heating in further south to get a wider spread of initiation later. I know the SE contingent gets excited over imports from France but it ain't half a pain with all the crud that comes with it! Just makes the already-tricky forecasting side more fraught with difficulty
Luckily it's sunny and very warm/humid here to the south of London,. I was expecting clouds after last night's storm. Can see the clouds to the south but definitely looking positive for later.

A great few hours of lighting and thunder here from about 1am onwards, ending with a massive storm with constant T&L and heavy rain around 3:15 that lasted for a good 45 mins.
Was great here too in Woodhatch, explains why I'm shattered this morning!!!

I think we had more lightning in 2 short storms tonight than in the past 10 years. The thunder wasnt so loud though. In fact it was the hail on the roof and setting car alarms off which was louder. All over now. Good luck everyone else in with a chance.
