Little bit of interest for us in NW tonight @ronan.....
Few flakes starting to fall here. Not graupel.
Looking good for us up here certainly, continuing to grow and intensify nicely too!

Any tasty looking snow charts to show us? Not sure how to access the ECM charts. I am quietly confident for the end of next week's. Its just too far away yet to get excited.
I'm quietly optimistic for next week despite being a general pessimist these days! All I'd say is that the ECMWF's precipitation output is wildly overdone sometimes in my eyes. Especially when the white stuff is involved. Always good to look at them!
Here they are for the end of next week from tameteo.com:

I used to have a pilot's licence years ago before my hearing went and recognised the runway number for Derry.
Sorry to hear about your hearing! Yep that's certainly it too, the NW sure is a nice area to be flying around, especially on a crisp winters morn.

You lads out in the North West always do better than over this side.
Do you work at Derry City airport by any chance?
Yeah that is true, I'm close to sea-level in quite a narrow but steep valley so whilst I don't get pasted, I do get to see it I suppose!
No I don't actually, just involved in aviation more generally in NI/ROI. I do know people who do however.

I wouldn't rule out everything just yet. As a matter of fact, I personally believe that for my location this stint over the coming days could yield better (albeit it wouldn't take much).
At the end of the day we could be in a very different position such as the one seen last year. There has been plenty of opportunities to get out and about as much as we can which is something we all need in these times.

I think there's a better chance for me to see snow tonight than at any time during this winter. 1 to 3cm for areas that get the showers and maybe a sweet spot could see 5cm. Showers seem very localised and I don't think they will last that very far inland. That's from a imby point of view. Parts down the country looking at a dusting as well.
Completely agree there. The coming days will certainly yield better for the far NW of the island than what passed a few days ago. Dewpoints here have dropped ever so slightly below 0 here and I'd expect them to continue to decrease. I also wouldn't be surprised to see the showers intensifying slightly as the night progresses as they come off the coast.

Sorry to hear about that now. I had a few situations like that a few weeks ago in our North Westerly setup, plenty of showers passing to the north over Lough Foyle with bunches going over to the south of me. Hopefully you'll get something of significance!
