Full credit to the Met Office, not sure about other areas but for St Albans they got the forecast pretty much spot on.

Earlier 1cm snow covering here in St Albans now rapidly thawing, which is fine by me. If it's not going to look like a picture postcard it can do one.

Been snowing since at least 6am in St Albans, now (7am) quite heavily, biggish flakes too. But only about 1cm so far.
Snow now beginning to cover our gritted road.
Now turning to sleet!

Im around 10 miles from the coast, roughly 8 miles north west of Rye, 70m asl, im right on the earlier snow line warning, do I stay up, or go to bed, mmmm
If you stay up, it'll be nothing but rain. go to bed and you'll miss the snow, every flipping flake.

I have very vivid memories of 63 and needless to say this January feels like summer by comparison. But we are talking since, and whilst we've probably had much colder spells in previous winters those may not have come first half of January. So far this month the average daily temperature around here has hovered consistently close to or below freezing for pretty much the whole time, so in that respect that claim
would come as no great surprise.
