Next door has just lost their shed roof.

I'm just off round my mother's as she lives on Burnham sea front. Going to tie down anything vaguely mobile - including my mother.

Any kind souls know if it's likely to avoid Burnham On Sea? I have a hospital appointment in Bridgwater at 3 and will be using public transport. Much obliged.

Snowing here in Burnham on sea but not sticking on wet pavements (2c)

Torrential side ways rain and strong winds - car alarms all going off.

Absolutely smashing it down in Somerset. Roads filling with water.

Here in Boredom On Sea it has suddenly gone very dark and windy. Had no power for the last few hours (again) and it's not even here yet. Better crack open the prep store of candles.

I would say it's because there is a lot more rain, so there is the sound of the rain as well as the wind.
Well of course this hypothesis may a load of old cobblers
As an old cobbler I concur!

I just went out to try and prop up the single remaining fence panel and (excuse my old hippy ponderings) the wind feels more malevolent than yesterday. Perhaps my over active imagination was just due to the dark lol

Ngl I kinda feel like an amber warning should be issued for this storm.
EDIT: For parts in England.
yep this is pretty grim. Hope the power doesn't go again!

Power has just been restored after an hour here in Zummerzet. Barometer 996 at moment compared to 984 on friday. Strong wind, rain and gone pitch black very quickly.

We had no power from 11.45am to 6pm and no mobile signal either. Landline still worked. And yes about the windows - I had mine cleaned on Tuesday and they are filthy now. Fair play to Western power for getting us back up and running so quickly. The worst damage in my locality was the neighbour who left an upstairs window slightly open which blew open and off its hinges so while they were at work they had a typhoon blasting around the house. Another reason why stay at home orders are useful. We couldn't get in to shut it for them.
As events like this happen more regularly with climate change I think it shows how we should build more ties within our communities and have plans to support each other.

Power just restored here in Burnham On Sea. Five out of eight fences gone in my row of terraces and lots of trees down. Very thankful this morning missed high tide!

Gale force gusts hitting here in Somerset now and the skies are darkening.

Very calm here until ten minutes ago. Looking at social media people are ignoring the warnings and heading off to work as 'oh the met office have got it wrong'. Argh.

I'm wondering where the TV reporters have decided to set up camp this evening. Somewhere on the coast of N Cornwall or N Devon and somewhere South Wales I imagine...
There are a few crews in Clevedon (Somerset) as my mate can see them from her house.

Just went down to the front and all the barriers to beach access have been put in place. Hardly any wind as yet.

Are we likely to get any in Somerset?

Blustery rain here in Somerset but I've just spent an hour retrieving the contents of my bin which was whizzed along the road. These gusts will prove problematic for campers.

How's the wind looking this evening? I've just bagged up the last bits of our neighbour's shed roof from last week - is this more of the same or not as bad? Cheers.
