They know what has happened further North = too wet & windy to produce flying insects to feed on - & are flying South!
Storm Reports - 27th April 2005 in Weather reports Posted April 27, 2005 A couple of pictures from twixt Richmond Park & Wimbledon Common. the main storm passsed slightly to The North but the cloud was pretty dramatic on the southern edge as was the wind - a funnel cloud reported nearby.

Swifts returned to Wimbledon Common today.
They normally pass here on the way back South in September and hang on till October if pressure remains high.
