Last summer was cool but there was a drought in the north and it was quite warm there. But March and April were very warm and sunny in 2010, and February was pretty good also. January was the shocker, especially in these parts!
first time in a few weeks without a having to light the fire last night, just got lots of the wet stuff instead.
The NWers are going to help keep us warm for the next few days, after those frosts and -2 and -3,s we had last week.

Just to let you all know about the UKWN.
The United Kingdom Weather Network (UKWN) is currently looking for members to contribute their data to the network. Our goal is to have a comprehensive view of weather conditions across the UK in the form of a meso map. If you are a personal weather station owner / operator, please let us know and we will consider adding you to our network. We are especially looking for stations in England, Wales, Ireland and Northern Ireland

No I use virtual weather station, but you can make the same "gain" adjustment in WD just mark it down to 0.25 instead of 1.
Using a standard plastic funnel we dont have issues with rain sticking to the collector material. If you did you coudl try coating it with rainex or silicon spray, but I really don't think you will need it.

My new weather station came with a rain gauge of about 10cm diameter. It records nothing in short showers. Would it be possible to put a large funnel on the top to increase its 'catchment'? Anyone done this?

I've got an OS928 that has a 10cm gauge. It records 1mm bucket tips. By increasing the area x4 through use of a 20cm funnel and making the relevant adjustment in the software program for gain, I now have a 0.25mm bucket tip. A couple of the members on the Midlands Weather Webring have done similar conversions and all seem to be working accurately.

The man has supposedly been gagged with regards to his earthquake predictions. He did an interview the other day bemoaning the fact he's had to go into hiding, has been threatened with legal action and is no longer able to make earthquake predictions in public. The closed the interview with a prediction on the earthquake activity from April onwards.
I hear his producing an Almanac for Ireland this year? Good luck with that one.
