  1. Originall posted on TWO. First batch from yesterday.

    20112009001.jpg

The scene around 8 am yesterday morning at the bottom of the driveway that's also a public footpath leading down to the River Derwent from wherer I live.

    20112009003.jpg

There's normally a narrow tarmac road here and then a gravel track nearer to the river which used to be the Workington to Cockermouth railway.

Navvies bridge Workington, again was orginally a railway line, is now a footpath/cycle track. The green building is the former Workington brewery. The deep pool in front of it is the Cricket ground.

A closer look at the fallen Navvies brdge.

A better look at the Cricket ground.

New Bridge Workington. What was the A597, the scene of PC Barkers death. [o[:drinks:(]]

Not the clearest view, but looking down to Barepot from Seaton. About as close as I could get to it yesterday morning.

Next batch from yesterday afternoon - the Derwent had fallen enough to get closer to it.

The scene from Barepot road looking upstream

Houses in Mill Field Workington, although cutoff I think they survived the flooding.

Looking upstream, house cut off. On Thursday afternoon I manged to walk up a track to the right of this house.

Looking upstream to other house cutoff at Barepot.

Oh the irony!.. I don't think there'll be any swimmers today...

The A596 road bridge, still standing!

    Today's photos.

The A596 road bridge. That crack doesn't loog good...

View from other side of the bridge looking back up the cyclepath.

Navvies bridge and Workington bowling club behind it.

View across to Mill Field again, some green starting to show.

Crossing House, Barepot. There used to be a conservatory on the left of the building.

And finally, I saw this couple pull up at the bottom of our road, put on wellies and waterprrofs and head off down to the river. I though at first they might be sightseers, but it looks liek they are residents of Barepot going back to see what's left of their home. I'll leave it at that for now.

  2. Just to see hello to the forum.

I've popped over from TWO where I've just posted a heap of pictures of the flooding around Workington.

As the crow flies I'm around quarter of a mile from the River Derwent, but fortuntely around 30m higher usually!

Just got power back after two days off. If you want to see them I'll try to do some cunning copying and pasting, otherwise if you've registered at TWO you can go and haev a look over there now.

    Bill
