  1. Just had torrential rain for the past hour so. Roads flooded. Very dark.

Lightning and thunder have been fairly frequent - about 10 per minute at its peak. Most seem to have been cloud-to-cloud.

Storm came from Nottingham direction, and has now just cleared here in Newark, and seems to be heading east.

(By the way, the date is the 29th, not the 28th.)

  2. Been raining quite hard here for 20 mins or so. Odd rumble in the distance.

Nothing like the spectacular display we had at 0230 this morning! Then we had about one flash every 20 seconds or so for half an hour. Some strikes very close and loud. Power went off for a short while. Very heavy rain with road outside flooded. According to News, one house was struck about 7 miles away.

Back to now... Rain now easing off but it is still overcast and dark. Still hot and humid.... Is there more coming?

  3. Hi Polar Low - good to see someone else from Newark!

Storm is now gradually petering out - it went very dark (enough for street lights to come on) and rain was torrential for a while with strong gusty winds.

Thunder every 20 - 30 secs or so at peak - caused several dips in lights and computer to crash.

Most lightning seemed to be C to C, with a few C to G. A few of the latter seemed very powerful, although fewer in number.

Skies now brightening slowly - but still raining. Thunder seems to be moving north, as it often does (down the Trent valley).

    Some excitement at last! :)

  4. Spectacular display here!

Heaviest rain I have seen for ages and about 1 strike every 30 secs - some close.

Lasted about 15 mins - now starting to recede - heading north by the sound of it.

This was the third 'storm' here today, but by far the worst (or best depending on how you look at it!)

Has been very hot & sticky here - slightly better now.

  5. Heard one clap of thunder to the west at 1810. Presumably, Splidge, this is the storm you've recently had; it's had time to develop a bit more since it moved past here.

    T.M

Yes, the Netweather Lightning detector is now showing it - the only strike in the UK apparently!

Weather now returned to normal - overcast & light rain as per the rest of the day.

  6. Storm just passed over Newark.  Frequent lightning and thunder for about 20 mins.  Cloud /ground and cloud / cloud.  Sun coming out now.  Still muggy though.

Spoke too soon. Sun lasted only a minute. Still raining and just heard more thunder. More on its way??
