The wind is certainly gaining strength now the leading edge has passed through, dread to think what it will be like further North.
-
Yep stevo, I think this is where the fun starts!
-
Starting to get some very strong and prolonged gusts now, slightly concerned as to what the next few hours will bring.
-
ITV News make me laugh, They are reporting a "once in 50 year storm event" starting tonight. If this is worse than the storms of 86 then why are they the only ones warning us? A quick search reveals their source as the Daily Fail........That figures.
-
Stunning pictures Paul. Wouldn't want to get hit by a hailstone that size though.

Hi after the big cell passed last night and went over into Wales we still had alot of lightning around but on Radar there was nothing, it was very strange.. Had a good show for a couple of hours, but like you said they seem to come from nothing.
Not much rain in the first storm, were a few CG strikes but hardly any rain, i know because i was stood outside. Hoping for more later on
kaz
Did the same as you Kaz, stayed up until 1.30 but everything seemed to be moving over Exmoor/ Somerset way. Storms were moving very fast and sprung up out of nowhere! Hoping for some more later on this evening if the sun does it's stuff. lol.
-
Had 3 storms pass through in the last 3 hours, were moving very fast, didn't last very long, plenty of rumbles though. Maybe we might be in for a few more yet.
-
Damn! storm is passing to the south of me constant rumbles of thunder looks like a very lively one may have to jump in the car and travel south of Bideford.
-
Skies just gone black maybe the first storm of the year!
-
I reckon you guys in Bristol may get a deluge within the next half hour or so. It's just passed over Barnstaple (very heavy) and some thunder thrown in for good measure.
-
Those showers along the N Cornwall/ Devon coast have been getting heavier with each one. Just had a small storm pass over Barnstaple and it looks like there maybe more following on behind.
-
stayed up til 3.15 to watch. The night chasing looked absolutely awesome. I'm pretty sure that as you approached the hook, i could see (through the lightning) a funnel dropping just off to your left. I must say the footage and your dedication to get it is very much appreciated. Maybe next year i may just get to see it for myself.
-
Awesome lightning!! Made me laugh when the lads all dived for cover into the car.
-
There are more storms trying to rush in a fill the gap across NE coast of France...come on baby!!!
Keep holding out Harry these are strong cells and if you look at Sat24 radar there is a definate hook on that cell which should bring it over your way more later on. Now what you really want is for the bigger cell off the south coast to wing it's way a little more Northwards and hook up with the Kent cell and BOOM!
-
Better late than never, though I am gobsmacked that Hants, Surrey and Greater London have not been included!
If it reaches land Harry and grows at the rate it seems to be doing across the water then there is a good chance that anyone could see something.
-
I wouldn't bet on the Kent cells been 'clippers' The two cells are merging and the track seems to veer N\NW so hopefully if they make land the heat will feed them into a monster and the majority of Kent should see something. (it's happened many times before)
-
East Kent should see some activity from the Calais cell but watch out for the bigger one racing its way NW from LeHarve, might be fun for those further along the south coast.
-
Well it seems the cells trying to cross the Channel, whilst moving NE are seeming to build up in a NW direction so maybe a big part of the south coast may see some action.
-
At last, it looks like the stalled cold front (which took a N/NW track for pretty much the whole bloody day) is finally going to clear Devon and hopefully give us a decent nights sleep! Good luck to all those storm nuts in Kent, hopefully those cells will force a path across the Channel.
Jay. (a ex resident of N Kent.)
-
I'm pleased other people are convinced they are coming across the channel, because reviewing the last 2 hours worth of radar, they've not made any progress over the channel at all, in pretty much any shape or form.
The only positive thing are those cells nr Kent at the moment which actually fired up over the Channel and appear at present to be doing ok.
They look like they are going to expand as well Harry, and looking at the wind direction up your end they look to be taking a NNW track so maybe as usual you may get a nice little import later.
-
Looking at the radar, the front is pushing ever so slowly NE but the back end just seems to be rotating around Devon giving slight showers and unbearable humidity.
-
Torrential rain, thunder and lightning here in central Bristol.
Yep a close up on the south west radar (meteox) shows a very small cloudburst right over Bristol, it will probably be gone within 20 mins
-
Well so much for the torrential downpours here in Devon. At the moment it is very humid and damp with what can only be described as slight drizzle. Unfortunately the sun hasn't had a chance to get any warming underway, so it looks like this is all we're going to get today.

We have had some good lightning around the Barnstaple area this evening, but nothing significant. Anyone out there think that we could look to something better tonight?

Getting quite nasty now, lorry gone over on the Bideford Bridge and gusts are getting stronger by the hour.
