Thanks Coast and Speed67, you've given me some great ideas! Only problem I have now, is that what started out as a birthday present, is now turning out to be a bit of a spending spree. Looks like I'll be doing a lot of reading over the next few weeks! Once again thanks for your help. Regards Loraine.

Hi all, can anyone recommend a book about the 1987 storm, preferably one that has a few photographs.
Had a quick look on Amazon, not much on there. Would be very grateful, as I'm looking for a birthday present.
Cheers Loraine.

News 24....Rob McElwee has just said that it will be cold next week. :excl: :excl:
-
Temp 2.3c at the moment and dropping. Had some very light snow earlier. Hoping by the end of next week we'll be tapping into
the very cold continental air again.
-
Thoroughly enjoyed the snow programme last night, especially the footage from 1962-63; amazing! Hope next week will be just as good.

Have just seen sky advertising 'earth day' for Wednesday 22nd (tomorrow). A couple of programmes stood out. One was called 'Extreme Ice', which is on
National geographic at 7pm, and the other (which I can't watch because I don't have HD), is 'Little Ice Age : Big Chill', which is on History HD
at 9pm. Don't know if they'll be any good, might be worth checking them out though.

Yes I lost a lavender, but nothing else plantwise, but what I did lose were several large terracotta pots! I was constantly amazed at my monster
of a honeysuckle, which when the frost appeared seemed to wither and droop, and when the temps picked up miraculously perked up again.
When we had the heavy snow and prolonged cold spell, I really thought it was a gonna, but no it's sprouting even more profusely since we've
had the rain and warmth, a real survivor!

Just watched the first part of a new three part documentary series on BBC 4, about the weather in this country. Pretty good, lots of archive footage,
history, facts and figures etc. First programme was about rain, next week SNOW! It's on Monday night, BBC 4 at 9pm, have a look.

June 5th Cheshunt Hertfordshire, need the weather for B.B.Q.

Do we have an area on Net-Weather where I can look up records set by the weather, e.g. largest hail, deepest snow etc? I can't seem
to find anything apart from some posts on the Historical page. I think it would make great reading, informative and interesting, especially when the
weather is boring and for people visiting the site who have a general interest in the weather. Also major events and data e.g. Lynmouth.
What do you think?

Mmmm, you know what, this Winter actually felt like a real Winter, something I haven't felt for a few years. Some one posted that we had seen snow
every month somewhere in this country since October, fantastic! That said, although we had longer periods of cold, with Easterlies at times, snow was in short supply, though when we got it, well the photo gallery says it all! Some very memorable events, and my children's first proper snowman in years.

The longer days, and the warm sunshine definately do raise the spirit! We spend so much time indoors during the winter, eating comfort foods,
exercise less, it's like we come out of hibernation! I did some gardening and sorted out the garage, (where does all the junk come from?).
A lovely day, but you know what, I'd still like to see a last wintry blast!

Had just under an inch of snow last night, but about 9.30 it started to rain. Temp at the time was 1.4. Got up this morning and there was just a little left on
the lawn and cars. Gutted! Hopefully we will see some more snow in the near future. Looks like there might be the first signs of something more cold
in about 10 days time.

I think if anything is going to happen it would be in the early hours of the morning... so the Met Office say about brighton anyway. I have warnings here for heavy snow and heavy rain at exactly the same time..!
They really ARE covering their backsides! lol
-
It's been raining here all day. Temp now 3.4c. I would love to see some snow, but I think all we're going to get is sleet.

SNOWINGS HEAVY IN LOOTONS. SETTLINGS ON GROUNDS FAT FLUFFY FLAKIES YIPSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You're back! You always make me laugh! Glad you got some snow!

Going to bed now, can't stay up any longer! I was hoping I might see something by now, but so far nothing! Temperature has been slowly
rising for the last few hours, currently 1.3c. Got a horrible feeling it's going to be rain. Anyway, I think there might be a few more surprises
to look forward to in February, so if it's rain so be it, let's move onto the next event! Night all

Pure rain now.. wondering how many days the 7ft snowman on corner of street will last??
If it had been 1963, probably until the middle of March! lol
-
its sleet/rain now.... oh well gotto admit it was great.. plus the rain and thaw will get rid of this dangerous ice thats still on the pavements. And i can now go back to my warcraft...
Right... whos up for the storms??
I think February might still have a few more surprises for us!

ihope that cold air will uncut as quickly on fri/sat as the warmer air is tonight
Hi John, I'm just up the road from you in Cheshunt, what's your temp at the moment?
-
Snow flurries on and off for most of the afternoon, but nothing 'chunky' so far. Hopefully it won't be too long. Temp at the
moment 1.6c.

Have just seen Chris Fawkes, he was talking about temperatures dropping towards the end of next week, and then said with a twinkle in his eye,' could be the start of something for the rest of the month'. Then Football Focus came on and they said ' we will be looking at the Great Freeze of 1963'.... spooky!
