Bucketing down here now!
-
Looks like any other winter morning here in Lusk... cold and wet outside!
-
Nothing here in Lusk I know early yet but I need to think about bed soon if I'm to get up and attempt my journey to London... which is looking less likely but I should at least make the effort!
-
I suspect Globe you will really struggle to get that plane and odds are it will be cancelled or at best very severely delayed, I'd keep a very close eye on it over the next 6hrs to be honest then make the call then.
Showers seem to be slowly pepping up as forcing continues to increase. We should also now start to see the showers really driving further inland as the forcing that was only by the east coast heads inland and increases.
Yeah its looking that way alright, I will keep an eye over the next few hours.
Cheers.

I've got to pick the wife and kids up from Stansted tomorrow evening...they're coming in from Knock. Personally I think you've a better chance of geting in and travelling thereafter at your time than I will have by the time they arrive...if they arrive!
My fear is that the plane makes it to Heathrow and the trains aren't operating then into London!
i imagine Heathrow will close tomorow at some point.Hopefully before my plane takes off so. Not that I don't want to go to London, just don't want to spend hours traveling a few km's.
Thanks

Guys, should I forget about trying to get on a plane at 6.45am tomorrow to Heathrow and then trains on to central London?! Our local weather here on RTE specifically said to avoid travel to the eastern parts of the UK tomorrow and pointed especially to the London area - are they being OTT? Advice appreciated once again, I did ask earlier but it would seem things may have escalated since then. I really don't want to get up at 4.30am and waste me time going to Dublin airport etc!!!
Thanks.

Hi Globe
Heathrow tends to be OK - financially it is really bad for them to be affected by the weather (they screw things up quite well already without any meterological assistance!!!!) - you should be OK.
You have a couple of options about getting to london - the overground to Paddington is the quickest, but may be affected by snow, so you can always revert to the Piccadilly Line tube which should be running.
All the best
SS
Hi, thanks for the reply. I normally get the Heathrow Express to Paddington alright and then the tube to the area that I travel to. Will see in the morning!
Cheers.

Anyone know what Heathrow airport tends to be like in snow situations? Due on a flight that lands in there at 8am tomorrow morning and wondering how likely delays etc are. Also trains etc then into central London, I assume that could be difficult too?
-
Don't think it's the plane leaving will be the issue but the plane landing in London will.
Yeah was hoping that too. I believe Heathrow is like Dublin in that respect and it shuts down pretty easily with snow and ice. Oh I sure hope so! It will be a painful journey if the plane does take off and land in Heathrow, I then have to face commuting into London city via the Heathrow Express and the tube - lots of potential delays I'm sure.
-
I just hope theres enough snow come Monday morning to prevent my flight out to London. Not due back till Tuesday evening and really don't want to miss snow in my own area! So please, snow heavily on Sunday night and close Dublin airport!!!

I am not speaking with regard to my location oon.I am speaking about the whole island of Ireland and believe me Northern Ireland has always done far better than most of UK.
I am really happy for all those who got snow and am just simply trying to state that much milder air has enveloped all of Ireland. This in my view is very relevent as it shows that the battle line is being moved more and more east just as the models are showing. Most of Ireland is close on 8C today and my point is that this air is likely to win out at the weekend.
Maybe I'll be wrong I hope so.
Certainly not 8c here, currently a mix of wet snow and sleet falling outside. Easterly winds coming over a mild Irish sea ruined it for us last night and the Irish met twigged that by yesterday evening. And to echo what others have said, of course Cork is always going to be extremely marginal in these setups...or most cold setups for that matter.

Tonight in Dublin for me is a big let down after being led on so to speak...
Its kinda like you are in a bar and when you first arrive to get a drink, a cracking looking blonde smiles over at you (lets say, FI). You have a couple of drinks and exchange a few more nods and smiles at the blonde (moving into the more reliable timeframe)...
The night progresses and eventually with some dutch courage you go over and start chatting (into 24hr faxes now). Getting on well and thinking I might be lucky here and score, and what a beaut she is, like something I haven't had since the mid '90s (old times nostalgia)...
Last orders are called in the bar and the blonde suggests walking her to a taxi which you happily agree to (some media ramping now, looking good)...
At the taxi rank and she then asks would you like to come back for coffee (Met issue alerts, talk of significant and accumulations + big Red Warning triangles on their charts)...
Bit of banter in the taxi with the blonde, getting on well and nearly back at her place (into the final hurdle now and watching temps/radar like a hawk)...
Taxi pulls up and you hop out (after paying of course) and stroll towards the beauts place...she then says she feels a bit sick and dizzy (temps marginal, lows heading the wrong way and not looking as intense)...
Head on anyway into her place and stick on the kettle, being a gent suggest she takes a seat and you will make the coffee...she sits down looking fairly pale but you clutch a few straws and tell yourself she will be fine after a coffee (willing the temps to drop but 2c with 0 DP is not looking good, also the low has stalled sth of you)...
Coffee made, head back into the sitting room and sit down beside her. Seems to be sleeping so tap her on the shoulder and tell her the coffee is ready...she makes a poor effort to take a sip of the coffee but just about manages before finally puking on the sofa and knocking the coffee from your hand and onto your lap, a nice burning sensation which sobers you up pretty quickly and you then realise its not going to happen. (light precip outside, falling only as rain, temp up to 3c)...
Walking home after throwing a blanket over what was a beaut and to be something that only happens every ten years, you realise that it just wasn't going to happen this time and maybe next week will deliver the goods (back into FI)..
Just thought I would share that with you all before I retire to my bed, a defeated snow starved Dubliner
Enjoy your snow, whoever gets it

yep especially since the radar is impossible to get a readin at times from Dublin. Always seems like a monsoon hovering over Dublin even in dry weather. Thinks its to do with the aircraft radar!
Anyway still a good chance of snow showers packin in from Irish sea specially over Dublin!
The question though is, is it worth staying up for potentially nothing?! And get more grief off the wife!

Cheers shrike, I'm in Nth Dublin, as far North as you can go really so I suppose there is a remote chance
-
Snowing in Galway atm.
While boards is down, are you going to give any further teasers as to why it might be worth staying up? Felix btw

15 miles west of where I am theres heavy snow(my sisters house to be exact(who couldnt care less))..... i dont care what the neighbours say im building a snowman out of grass in the morning, a grassman if u will. Then im going to set him on fire using printouts of yesterdays forecast.
 Think I'll do the same. Would still think you are in with some chance being more inland, shouldn't be long now before the heavier precip makes it to you.
-
West Ireland is more favourable than the east at the mo for heavy snow!
Not even getting rain here now, let alone snow
Hows up North doing?
-
heavy snow falling in west ireland
Dry, cold and windy in east Ireland
Is it settling?
-
Hi Kippure,
It is really on a knife edge now. 3.2C for me and there was slight drizzle earlier.
We need further drops.
Hi John, where in Dublin are you? Knife edge in various parts of Dublin it would seem
-
BAD NEWS - Raining here with just a smidge of sleetiness.
GOOD NEWS - Temp was up to +3.6 but has now fallen 0.8 in half an hour to +2.8 and the dew point is still low.
Where in Dublin are you Doc?
-
hi there,
stopped snowing here at the moment,
current temp 2.1c but drops dramatically when snowing,
funny thing about this wind it is a very dry wind
regards
Hi, over here though on the east coast we are suffering the effects of mild easterly winds (what a horrible thing!)...temps have increased with the wind, unless of course they drop over later when the main band arrives but I'm not too hopefull being only 6 miles from the coast. Enjoy it over there You only had the starters so far, the main course has yet to arrive!

Time to hear from people with snow reports. The radar shows it over me.

Hows it looking?
Nothing here anyway, and there is a definite feel of a temp rise outside...my only temperature gauge is the car which reads 4c Dont know how accurate they are though. I think I can forget it but you are on high ground?
-
5 or 10 miles id say. Very hard to predict these things.
Ah sure we'll know in a few hours anyway, cheers
