Met Office and BBC Weekly/Monthly Outlooks

Friday 20 Jan - Sunday 29 Jan On Friday, further outbreaks of rain, although this weakening as it pushes east, will bring a chance of some snow across central and northern areas, mainly high ground. Further west, brighter conditions are likely, although with the occasional shower pushing into some coastal areas. Over the weekend, and indeed the rest of the period, unsettled conditions are likely to persist. The most unsettled conditions are expected in the north and west with a mixture of strong winds and spells of rain or showers at times. Southern and eastern areas will likely remain drier and more settled, although there may be the occasional spell of rain. Temperatures are expected to be mild in northern and western areas, but close to average or perhaps cold in more southern and eastern areas. Wednesday 18 Jan - Friday 27 Jan Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday will likely bring bright or sunny spells for much of the UK, with some coastal wintry showers mainly affecting the north and east, although some may push further inland at times. Cold temperatures over this period will be exacerbated by strong winds with a widespread frost likely, most severe in the far north. A return to more generally unsettled weather is likely through next weekend and into the following week, with low pressure to the northwest of the UK bringing strong winds and heavy rain to many northern and western areas. The southeast or sheltered areas in the east will likely be drier and more settled. Temperatures expected to return to average for many, perhaps slightly above average at times. Updated: 14:00 (UTC) on Fri 13 Jan 2023 Saturday 28 Jan - Saturday 11 Feb As we move into February a continuation of unsettled weather is most likely, with the wettest and windiest conditions in the north and west, whilst the southeast and east likely experiencing spells of more settled conditions. Temperatures remaining around average or slightly above, however the risk of brief colder spells within this remains. Updated: 15:00 (UTC) on Fri 13 Jan 2023 Weather and climate change - Met Office -

Mid-January is likely to bring less unsettled conditions, with more prolonged drier interludes for most areas - increasing the incidence of overnight frost and morning fog. Showers and longer spells of rain are possible, however mainly confined to the north and northwest. Towards the end of the period, a return to unsettled conditions is the most likely outcome, with spells of wet and windy weather probable across all areas with brief dry interludes. Temperatures generally around or slightly above average, but with an increased chance of temporary colder conditions at first. Unsettled weather is most likely to characterise the beginning of this period, with blustery showers or longer spells of rain in all areas. Showers will be heaviest and most frequent along windward coasts but are likely to spread well inland at times. Any snow will most likely be confined to northern higher ground. Drier interludes are expected to remain brief, with temperatures average, perhaps becoming milder at times in the south. Towards mid-January, a trend towards less unsettled weather is most likely. Occasional showers and longer spells of rain are still possible although mainly restricted to the north and northwest, but more prolonged drier interludes will become more likely for most, with a risk of overnight frost and morning fog and an increased chance of colder conditions for a time.
